I was thinking halo may do better as a tv series or have a movie that focuses on harvest and the birth of the Spartan 2's. Bioshock defiantly has a good foundation set out for directors to use to build up a great movie. Hopefully they stick to the original characters and story instead of using some new guy as the main lead.

zhan chuin Yap They all use common themes. Rag tag parties, mythical beasts, magical summoned creatures like Odin, magic in general, swords and bows often mixed with steam punk themes. There are plenty of things the movie could have had ties too but instead it was a movie about people fighting ghosts and no idea how to even slow them down. That isn't FF in the least.

From what I gathered from it, it seemed like it was a prequel (or at least could be construed as one). I think the early games made subtle references to suggest that it was a post-apocalyptic world that the human race was recovering from. So it would make sense if the movie, which pretty much showed the end of the world, was the story of what happened before the games. That's my take on it. I was really disappointed and confused, too, at first, but I think it's interesting to imagine it as a prequel.

hazza3 What, longer than Game of Thrones? I wouldn't have said so - in particular, it follows the same group of characters instead of hopping between lots of groups. You probably *could* condense the plot of each game into a 2-3 hour movie, it would just cut out a lot of the things fans would want to see. The plot of ME1 with all of the main story quests would probably be about right for a single season, e.g. (condensing into minimum number of episodes): 1 - Eden Prime, Shepard, Ashley and Kaidan introduced 2 - Citadel, Shepard becomes Spectre, Tali, Garrus and Wrex introduced 3 - Therum, Liara introduced 4 - Feros 5 - Noveria 6 - Virmire 7 - Ilos 8 - Final battle at the Citadel ME2 would be a bit more difficult because of the larger cast. ME3 could be done in a similar way, but budget might be an issue because there are a lot more big set-pieces.

Why The Last of Us and Red Dead Redemption were honorable mentions I have no idea. A majority of these are SciFi picks wtf happened to diversity. The Last of Us is about the best character piece in video game history and Red Dead Redemption is one of the best western stories I've ever experienced if not the best. Get Josh Holloway who played Sawyer in Lost to do a southern accent and there's our John Marston.

wow Mojo, i get that most people just hate halo just because they're a Sony fanboy, but paying no attention to how good halo 4 was or wasn't halo should be WAY higher up. Halo is literally famous for its story and has a crazy dedicated fan base behind because of it. Halo is one of the only games that could actually have a good movie, take a look at forward until dawn for example, that short series was incredible especially seeing as it was only a build up to the game, imagine what they could do with a series of movies, that's why I’m hyped for the upcoming halo series directed by Steven Spielberg. Fuck mass effect, it may be a good game which it is, but it would not go well in a movie, it defiantly does not deserve first place, and The Last of Us should have defiantly been on this list, I’ve never seen so much character depth to a game.

There is an old PC game that was made in 1993 called Transarctia (or Arctic Barron in the US) that was based on a novel called The Ice Company. It's set in the 28th century in Europe where the Earth is in a centuries long nuclear winter and the Viking Union rules the primary means of transportation; steam train. In the game you play a group of sun worshiping religious fanatics who have stolen one of the Viking Union's trains. You are trying to find out why the Earth is the way it is and overthrow the powers that be. I can't say anymore without spoiling it but I believe it would make an excellent movie.

Here's my list... Grand Theft Auto - Think of every crime movie and every street race movie you've ever seen and tie them all together, what do you get? Grand Theft Auto! The story could revolve around an 18 year old who is a drug runner for a notorious crime boss and along the way, has run-ins with GTA characters like Claude Speed, Tony Vercetti, CJ, Franklin, Trevor, Michael, etc. Saints Row - This could be either a serious crime movie or an action comedy due to how over the top the series became. Donkey Kong Country - Easy CGI project involving DK and friends. Metroid - The roots of Samus are simply this...A badass woman who hunts and kills aliens with incredible weapons. A Metroid movie could follow Alien but with more Metroid references. Sonic The Hedgehog - Another CGI movie aimed at kids with Jaleel White as Sonic....YES! The "games" like heavy rain and Beyond 2 souls have gotten hate because they're not really games. You dont really do anything but watch stuff happen. There is very little actual gameplay so to most people its just a movie where you press X or Square every now and then. Hell Beyond 2 Souls has an App you can use that even takes the occasional button press away so you really are just watching the "game" play itself

In my opinion, absolutely NO game should get a movie adaptation. They should just stay games. No movie can fit story, lore and character development built up in 12+ hours into a 90-120 minute film. If their adaptations are a necessity, I think they should try making a TV series out of them. As far as I know, Halo is being made into a TV series produced by Ridley Scott. If that turns out great and is successful, I think many others will follow in Halo's footsteps, which would be great considering they have some sort of involvement with the game's developers.

Halo and ACII should be higher. Contrary to popular belief Halo is not just some mindless FPS like COD. It has a pretty good amount of lore and backstory mainly told through the novels. There is so much we don't get to see in the games. In the games the covenant and forerunners are just random alien soldiers who are all bad guys but the novels develop their culture and history so much better. Also they show us the origins of the SPARTAN program and how a seven-year old boy named John became the best and most respected human warrior in the world. Assassins Creed II was just so amazing. Assassins Creed one was terrible and boring but Ezio is just so amazing and the progression we see with his character in one game is so awesome. Plus the whole concept was just really cool. Personally I don't give two shits about Desmond I feel like the movie couldn't include the modern day storyline without seriously cutting down on Ezio, which is all we care about. Plus there is already an assassins creed movie in production with Michael fassbender starring and producing

I will never understand the gaming culture sometimes. People won't stop complaining how awful most movies based on Video Games are, yet they keep saying, "We want our favorite games made into movies!" Guess what: If it happens, there's a 70% chance that the movie is going to suck. And if it doesn't, you'll probably still be upset that they got some details wrong, or didn't stay 100% true to the original story. It's a pointless cause. I understand making video game movies back in the 90s, because back then, games weren't narrative focused, so oftentimes, you were only left reading little blurbs about what happens in the story, like with Mortal Kombat. But most of the best modern games like Mass Effect, Uncharted, etc. (even the very same Mortal Kombat), have such a strong narrative aspect to them that they don't NEED a movie based on them. If anything, having something so short, and something that takes away your input and immersion will only make for a lesser experience. When it comes to movies based on games, I'm perfectly fine with the independent animated films such as the ones they made for Mass Effect, Dead Space, etc. They directly tie into the games' storylines, they don't rehash the same story, instead focusing on other characters and events, and they're usually really good.

Jess Effect Well, the story doesn't have to follow Shepard. As much as I'd love to see my Femshep on the big screen, I realize that would not end well. No two Shep's are exactly alike, and creating a canon and choosing choices people don't agree with would end badly for Bioware or whomever tries to create a movie. A Mass Effect movie could focus on the First Contact War, possibly from the point of view of a group of human soldiers, or inversely, Turian soldiers. The Krogan Rebellions and the Rachni War are good settings, but I'm not sure audiences would fully connect to a cast of alien characters. The incident at Mindoir also comes to mind, but that might be a bit too "gory" and "violent" for people. It could also be about one of Shep's companions *before* they met Shep. Garrus, Kaidan, Miranda, Mordin, and Wrex have some interesting back stories. I always wanted to see Kasumi's story in movie form. (I know there was a comic, but I want to see a film adaptation.) TL;DR A Mass Effect movie would work, depending on the setting and focus, but a movie about Commander Shepard would not. Unless Bioware wants a lot of angry fans on their hands.

Dylan MacKinnon I'm not saying they should use a female Shepard since that would be an equally bad idea. I never said I wanted it to be Shepard based. I don't even know if I want them to make a movie.
