Another outstanding video! I was fortunate to get an Atom AR during the recent BF sale. Was that a preview of a future Arc'teryx layering guide at the end of the video? :) I would like to see a similar comparison with the various Arc'teryx LEAF insulated jackets as well as one for down jackets. Thank you!

Thank you and glad you liked it, and good catch on the Atom AR during Black Friday, as it's already a good warmth to dollar value jacket and even better when on sale! The end video was just used to add additional visuals to how the Nuclei SV looks other than in pictures, but yes, maybe I'll use it for a future winter laying guide video. Thanks for the requests. Will see what I can do, especially for the down, since the LEAF insulated line hasn't changed too much except for the Practitioner, but will have a look. Cheers!

Comparing the Atom LT and Atom AR, the latter has a Tyono 20D and the former has a Tyono 30D. What is the main difference between these two shell fabrics (durability, water resistance, etc)? Thank you for the detailed info in these videos, keep it up!
@weekendgearguide
@weekendgearguide Жыл бұрын
Hello and thanks for watching! To answer your question, first the Atom AR actually uses Tyono 30D, while the Atom LT uses Tyono 20D. As to the difference, generally, the higher the D (denier) that higher the durability and water resistance, and therefore, the Atom AR would have a slightly higher durability and water resistance than the Atom LT. This is also evident by more reports of piling and abrasion on the Atom LT if you go to r/arcteryx in reddit.com, in comparison to little to no reports of same issue for Atom AR that I am aware of. www.reddit.com/r/arcteryx/search/?q=piling&restrict_sr=1&sr_nsfw= However, this could also be due to the fact that Atom LT is more popular and more widely used than the Atom AR. Cheers!

I just need a jacket that will keep me warm in San Diego , it doesn’t snow , I don’t go out in the rain and the coldest it gets is around 45 degrees
@weekendgearguide
@weekendgearguide Жыл бұрын
Hi and thanks for watching. For 45 degrees and up in San Diego, the Proton FL Hoody or Atom SL Hoody would be the best choices. Unfortunately, they are spring release items, and are sold out, but some colors and sizes may be available on the Arc'teryx Outlet site or stores near year for discounted prices. Cheers!

I was so tempted to get a Nuclei SV to replace my deep winter jacket, but my six years old Firebee gets used 5-10 times a year in the high alpine, so I can't justify it. I read from another review that the Nuclei SV feels like it has heat reflective technology. Do you notice heat reflection technology?
@weekendgearguide
@weekendgearguide 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching, and yes, getting the Nuclei SV when you have the Firebee AR already, would be hard to justify unless you move to winter conditions where it would be too wet/humid for the Firebee AR. I don't notice any reflection technology in my Nuclei SV, nor is the Permair liner made of reflectively technology that I've seen in some Columbia winter jackets. If you have a link to the review, I'd be interested to read it. Thanks!

Hello, i know its hard to compare down vs synthethic but do you think the Thorium is warmer than the Nuclei SV? Thanks

Nice job with the video. What would you say is the warmest jacket you've ever worn/tested?
@weekendgearguide
@weekendgearguide 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The warmest synthetic jacket I've ever used for at least 2 winter seasons would probably be the Outdoor Research Perch Belay Parka, although just from limited use so far, the Nuclei SV seems to be just as warm.

What rebranded insulation is coreloft? Coreloft Continuous is climashield apex. But what about coreloft and coreloft compact? Thank you, great video!
@weekendgearguide
@weekendgearguide 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and the questions. For Coreloft, I'm unable to find any info on who manufacturers this insulation or the original brand name. However, for Coreloft Compact, I've listed the details in the Video Description. Check it out!

Which jacket would you recommend to wear under a Beta Jacket for temps of -10C to 0C? (I do run quite cold) Doubting between Atom AR and Thorium AR (or similar down jacket from other brands).
@weekendgearguide
@weekendgearguide Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. If you run quite cold, then the Thorium AR would be the warmest midlayer that would layer very well under the Beta Jacket, followed by the Cerium LT, then the Atom AR. Cheers!

Nuclei for winter hiking? I'm thinking 10-15 degrees. If colder I can add layers. If a little warmer just wear lighter clothing.
@weekendgearguide
@weekendgearguide 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Typically, the Nuclei SV Parka would be used as a static layer for your hike, meaning it would be taken out of your pack and put on over your active hiking layers (eg. base layer + fleece Kyanite LT/AR layer + Active Insulated Proton LT layer) only during rest periods, in 10F-15F winter temperatures, to keep you warm, then removed and put back into the pack when you restart your hike. The Nuclei SV Parka would typically not be used during your active hiking period especially if you are hiking at a moderate pace over hilly terrain since the Nuclei SV is thick and not that breathable and you will overheat and sweat which is not good in the winter once you cool down. However, if you like hiking at a slower pace and don't generate too much heat, then the Nuclei SV Parka should work out for you in this atypical use case.
@chronometa

Thanks for such a detailed reply. I was talking about the nuclei FL. But I'll go with the proton and add a parka I can use as a standalone for around town or hiking rest.
@weekendgearguide
@weekendgearguide 2 жыл бұрын
@@chronometa You're welcome and thanks for clarifying! Yes, the Proton would be a very versatile choice to use as a midlayer or standalone depending on the weather and your activity level.
@chronometa
@chronometa 2 жыл бұрын
@@weekendgearguide update. Went with the proton. I got a base, layer, new balance polyester fleece, under the proton and was still able to wear a shell on top. I'll probably get an atom ar for everyday use or static use while hiking/or change to colder weather while out.

@@chronometa Good to hear! The layering system you have now with the Proton LT should carry your through a wide range of winter temperatures and activities. Cheers!

Would you recommend the atom leaf lt over the civilian atom lt from 2022?
@weekendgearguide
@weekendgearguide 2 жыл бұрын
Hello and thanks for watching. Yes, I personally would recommend it over the Atom LT 2022, due to: 1) more abrasion resistant shell fabric 2) more accessibly convenient chest pocket 3) a bit warmer insulation 4) hood fits head better 5) low key logo 6) bit roomier cut Of course, the Atom LT 2022 have more colors to choose from, longer cut and cleaner look without external chest pocket which some people prefer.

Where would the Macai Jacket rank in this list?
@weekendgearguide
@weekendgearguide Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! While it's difficult to calculate and compare the warmth of synthetic insulated jackets to down insulated jackets, from my own experience with the Macai jacket kzbin.info/www/bejne/qWWWXpSHn9NoatU, it would be at least as as warm as the #3 Koda Jacket and #2 Fission SV Parka, but definitely not as warm as the #1 Nuclei SV Parka.
@jxnas39
@jxnas39 Жыл бұрын
@@weekendgearguide Thank you for the quick answer! For what temperatures would you recommend the Maicai when not doing sports, just as an everyday winter jacket? Will it be to warm for temperatures above 5 degrees celsius (40 F)? You make some of the best Arcteryx videos, keep it up!
