He was on the same vote blue no matter who train as the other people that destroyed our Democracy were. In general, I like this channel, but it was a bit much to shame men into voting for Harris when there wasn't any effort to earn the votes by offering us things that we might want. It was about the impact it would have on other people. And quite frankly, a lot of us are tired of being expected to vote against our own interests because the stakes are so high. The stakes are high every election. Reagan's election resulted in many thousands of unnecessary HIV related deaths. GHWB had the first war in Iraq. Clinton spent most of his administration fighting various scandals related to his dealings and eventually his sex life while delivering very little to benefit the regular people as they fell behind. GWB failed to stop 9/11 and then created a massive war where hundreds of thousands Iraqis were killed in ethnic cleansing, the number may even have topped a million, as the US disbanded their military and failed to ensure there were troops on the ground to prevent the subsequent revenge and recriminations. Obama, basically did fairly little, although he did manage to get a watered down version of the Heritage Foundation's health care plan enacted, but failed miserably to get the US out of Afghanistan. And then, we all remember what happened with Trump in 2016. The fact of the matter is that the Democrats don't care about what the results are because the consultants that make the decisions are paid either way, and there's never any punishment for failure the way that there is in the GOP.

I have been seeing so many people on Threads just doom posting. They have a right to feel angry and grieve but now, we must not obey in advance and do what we can to protect ourselves and each other. They want us to give up and lose. DON'T. DO NOT GIVE UP, DO NOT OBEY IN ADVANCE. This fight is gonna take awhile but I feel we can do it.

The long-standing two-party system is a big problem. It automatically creates two opposing 'teams,' and boy, do people love feeling like they're part of a team. The fact that people will vote straight Red or Blue down a ballot without knowing a single thing about the candidates shows how entrenched this is. "I am on this team. And my team thinks this way. My team is opposite of your team. Therefore, we can't agree." Most political/social issues are complex and cannot be addressed using only Republican or Democrat 'principles.' The solutions are in the middle.
@mariahmier93132 ай бұрын
I agree with everything you said here except for the last bit about the solutions being in the middle. The two party system also has the consequence of creating false dichotomies on many issues and results in public discourse that doesn’t entertain alternative solutions outside of red team or blue team. There are so many problems that can be solved by simply looking outside of the two options presented. For example, replacing unfair taxes with Georgian land taxes has wide poll support across the red-blue divide and are only really opposed by the ultra wealthy who own absurdly enormous swaths of land. Land taxes don’t even get talked about at all when red-blue arguments about tariffs, sales tax, income tax, etc. come up to the point that most Americans have never even heard of them.
@scribblydoodle29242 ай бұрын
AMEN to that. If the Democratic party were not led by the President, we would have had a real primary and likely would have ended up with an entirely different candidate. While I think Harris is great, I know the lingering issues about a woman leading (especially when the world is on fire), and even then, she just got the ball too late in the game. Would like to see a system like Parlament in so many countries where 3rd party candidates are needed to get legislation passed. Seems to me it forces compromise.

In the long run, the only solution that really works is refusing to vote for the Democrats until they commit to free and fair primaries followed by actually using the levers of power to deliver on their promises. Harris was an empty suit and enough people saw through it that she lost to one of the most beatable candidates ever.

Thanks for this compilation! A few of the things I have learned already. But this was dense and helpful. About increasing the House, that seems sensible in the USA's case. The case you made of other countries' larger parliaments - Germany has been trying to reduce the number of seats in its parliament because it has grown too big. This came following amendements made to balance the double vote system containing a vote 1 that selects a direct candidate and a vote 2 that elects a party nation-wide. Mostly those amendements benefitted larger parties, that with a tendency benefit more from the direct votes, too. The proposed changes still try to keep smaller parties at bay and may be criticized enough to make the change harder to achieve.

And it wouldn't deprive them of representation any more then having DC join VA or MD would. But we both know the real reason you care about one group of half a million people having three electoral votes and not the other, don't we? While we're at it...why do we need two Dakotas? Just one would make things more efficient; y'all are all about government inefficiency, right? Hypocrite.
