He was on the same vote blue no matter who train as the other people that destroyed our Democracy were. In general, I like this channel, but it was a bit much to shame men into voting for Harris when there wasn't any effort to earn the votes by offering us things that we might want. It was about the impact it would have on other people. And quite frankly, a lot of us are tired of being expected to vote against our own interests because the stakes are so high. The stakes are high every election. Reagan's election resulted in many thousands of unnecessary HIV related deaths. GHWB had the first war in Iraq. Clinton spent most of his administration fighting various scandals related to his dealings and eventually his sex life while delivering very little to benefit the regular people as they fell behind. GWB failed to stop 9/11 and then created a massive war where hundreds of thousands Iraqis were killed in ethnic cleansing, the number may even have topped a million, as the US disbanded their military and failed to ensure there were troops on the ground to prevent the subsequent revenge and recriminations. Obama, basically did fairly little, although he did manage to get a watered down version of the Heritage Foundation's health care plan enacted, but failed miserably to get the US out of Afghanistan. And then, we all remember what happened with Trump in 2016. The fact of the matter is that the Democrats don't care about what the results are because the consultants that make the decisions are paid either way, and there's never any punishment for failure the way that there is in the GOP.

Get rid of “lobbying“ and other money schemes 4. Ban misinformation on news platforms, and advertisements. 5. Block foreign intervention from other countries and organizations. 6. As someone from Ohio, it really hurts to see how our Republican legislature manipulated the language of our gerrymandering amendment in order to mislead voters, and that’s exactly why we lost that issue. It’s infuriating, because we fought for it in a fair manner, it was something that people across party lines could agree on, and yetRepublicans, who were in charge were able to rig the ballot so that it misled voters.

I was born during the Reagan administration, and I just do not know how someone who has seen as much as Robert Reich can maintain so much hope after all of this. For as long and hard as I have worked to try to make the places I have lived into better places politically, to see almost every effort I have made, almost every candidate I have supported, almost every referendum I have supported fail, even after every time I have tried to learn and reassess tactics, heavily donating, organizing with grassroots, canvassing, etc., to see us get to this point really shakes my faith in humanity and my hope for the future to their core.

Yep, part of what went wrong here is that she was allowed to skip the primaries completely, which means that most of the states didn't even get that much attention. It's bad enough that a handful of battleground states get all the attention in the general election, without candidates being allowed to skip visiting the states to try and earn the nomination. At least when the states get a say in the nominee, there's a larger pool of states that get to influence the ultimate result. And mind you that in the run up to the election you have the biggest opportunity for actual voters to have our voices heard.

I think the biggest way to help Americans immediately is to rethink the idea of a “minimum wage”. Any company making $100 Million dollars or more should have to pay their workers based on a “Minimum percentage of total gross annual earnings. And the new “minimum wage” should be the median wage of all these companies “broken down” across this new economic plan for companies making that much money within America.

Australia: All our elections happen on a Saturday. (When the most people have the day off work. Postal voting is also available if you don't). We have compulsory voting. (You have to get your name crossed off at the polling station and accept your ballot papers, but no one can force you to fill them in. So technically you don't have to vote unless you want to. Just return blank ballots which are discarded). We have preferential voting. (What Mr.Reich called RCV).

This needs to be shared to every person we know who is government and media illiterate. Education is by far the most important asset we have and the best to combat the incoming presidency. The long-standing two-party system is a big problem. It automatically creates two opposing 'teams,' and boy, do people love feeling like they're part of a team. The fact that people will vote straight Red or Blue down a ballot without knowing a single thing about the candidates shows how entrenched this is. "I am on this team. And my team thinks this way. My team is opposite of your team. Therefore, we can't agree." Most political/social issues are complex and cannot be addressed using only Republican or Democrat 'principles.' The solutions are in the middle.
@mariahmier9313
@mariahmier9313 2 ай бұрын
I agree with everything you said here except for the last bit about the solutions being in the middle. The two party system also has the consequence of creating false dichotomies on many issues and results in public discourse that doesn’t entertain alternative solutions outside of red team or blue team. There are so many problems that can be solved by simply looking outside of the two options presented. For example, replacing unfair taxes with Georgian land taxes has wide poll support across the red-blue divide and are only really opposed by the ultra wealthy who own absurdly enormous swaths of land. Land taxes don’t even get talked about at all when red-blue arguments about tariffs, sales tax, income tax, etc. come up to the point that most Americans have never even heard of them.

AMEN to that. If the Democratic party were not led by the President, we would have had a real primary and likely would have ended up with an entirely different candidate. While I think Harris is great, I know the lingering issues about a woman leading (especially when the world is on fire), and even then, she just got the ball too late in the game. Would like to see a system like Parlament in so many countries where 3rd party candidates are needed to get legislation passed. Seems to me it forces compromise.

Thanks for this compilation! A few of the things I have learned already. But this was dense and helpful. About increasing the House, that seems sensible in the USA's case. The case you made of other countries' larger parliaments - Germany has been trying to reduce the number of seats in its parliament because it has grown too big. This came following amendements made to balance the double vote system containing a vote 1 that selects a direct candidate and a vote 2 that elects a party nation-wide. Mostly those amendements benefitted larger parties, that with a tendency benefit more from the direct votes, too. The proposed changes still try to keep smaller parties at bay and may be criticized enough to make the change harder to achieve.
