@@kitcarsoncarson615 the field I was in years ago was warehousing and distribution, I had run a distribution centre for a couple years, the company merged with another one, I was asked to train my new boss, I was told that I didn't have the education to run a warehouse by the new management, it is at that point in my life where I realized that the younger generation coming in didn't respect on hands experience, today you see it at box stores like Home Depot and Lowe's, they will take a collage grad or a person with a BA in economics to run a department over an experienced person, so basically the tables have turned in the work place, education over rides experience, and they wonder why they have problems in some stores and warehouses , I'm happily retired now, but I have to laugh every time I shop at some stores you can clearly tell it's an over educated person running things and is absolutely clueless on what they are doing!!

@cnwil4594 How interesting! I was NOT one who went through college on Sports scholarships, and I can imagine your surprise. In fact, Sports? How long ago .... I would be THE WORST one on any team - just like my being THE WORST one in Rifles in my Army ROTC 101 Class my college friend, Patti, enrolled me in with her, despite my tears telling her I JUST KNOW! I will be THE WORST one on "Army Class," but the Major gave me an "A" and seems to know I TRIED hard ... with my rifle I swore, elsewhere, was used in the War of 1812 It was too heavy for me to hold to shoot. Patti gets a phone call, soon, and another opportunity to apologize for life. I didn't even take P.E. in high school, taking ballet from 9th Grade through College. I am not a complete chicken, just about about that physical danger. Somebody could get hurt!! My father pointed out an inconsistency in me, calling my attention to my fear of physical "danger," but my riding and breeding horses my whole life. That is incredibly dangerous activity ‐- but is a different thing to me. I had so much school, but it was hard in our family to put three daughters, close in ages, through college, graduate school and law school at the same time. Near to finishing my Masters in History and considering doing a Ph.D. in History, I got a great opportunity. My graduate advisor got "PERMISSION" for me to live and do research at, Balliol College, Oxford University, for ONLY one semester, at the second oldest of about 40 colleges of Oxford. I DO NOT HAVE A.DEGREE FROM THERE, as one of my Paralegals told an unknown number of people that I had. I was mortified.

Our educational system needs a complete overhaul….we’re waiting until college to teach some of this…we need to start investing more in education & less in football & basketball. We should adopt what the Europeans do…all sports are done through their communities…kids play sports on weekends, go to school Monday -Friday…kids stayed until 5 PM…all kids their ‘homework’ from 2-5 PM. When they got home they had no homework to do. And yes, teachers are very much respected & paid high wages…education is a top priority in Europe…

As soon as Trump ran for office I thought this may happen. I am 66 and an art history teacher. In 2016 I sat with a friend with a degree in social studies specializing in European history and we looked up several of Trumps standard statements and found several of them in the book, “Mien Kampf”. I first noticed his referencing to our country as a republic, rather than as a democracy or a democratic republic. As soon as he said that in the few days of accepting his office I was shocked and started to worry about what I have seen occur in the last 8 yrs. I even knew that his lies and machinations of Of the press and questioning the validity of the voting process was going to occur. And now here we are.

Wonderful Video Robert Reich...your baby picture is just darling 🥰... I grew up in Germany at the tail-end of hitlers regime, i seen the emotional trauma many Germans carried around with them (my parents included). It was horrific, to say the least. I not only had to deal with my own teenage traumas, but also lived through my parents traumatic experiences EVERY DAY of my life. You are right Robert Reich when you say we are bound to repeat history, because we haven't learned it in the first place. People who have grown up in America and never traveled outside American borders, don't understand the rest of the world. All they believe is this wannabe dictator who tells them what to believe! When I was able to vote (our government kept loosing my immigration paperwork for 20+ years) in 2003, I became an independent voter, BECAUSE i liked what Ross Perot had to say, back in the 80's. I am paying attention to politics, because my father taught me that it is important to know who is in power over a single nation, DON'T GO BY YOUR FRIEND'S hearsay! Learn things for yourself!

Speaking of history, there are some striking parallels between the US and Rome a century or two BC. The wealth disparity between the powerful (who occupied the Senate, and made war constantly) and the commoners was dramatic, and eventually fatal for the Roman empire.

I noticed the name about the 1789 French Revolution. Royalty, Nobility and Clergy paid no taxes and lived in luxury. The Peasantry paid ALL TAXES and the disparate income and wealth here is approaching that of France when, the levy of ONE MORE TAX on the Peasantry sparked the Revolution. Project 2025 and the Head of it (speaking for the Heritage Foundation) and MAGA INFORMED US THEY WERE GIVING US A SECOND AMERICAN REVOLUTION AND IT "CAN BE BLOODLESS, IF WE LET IT." AHAAAA! Revolutions are not GIVEN to people, especially when the result is to make their lives miserable! They DO NOT WANT TO SEE A REAL REVOLUTION BY US. They have got to be insane--no Domestic Terrorist Group, no irate Insurrectionists, no Army created by General Flynn will withstand a possible result of the insane former GOP and elitists' continued removal of rights. The reaction of the quiet, vast majority of Americans when we reach the point of "having had enough" cannot be matched.

Some do and that is a good observation to make. but far too few of them do. If more than 80% of corporations pay little to no income taxes, most support Trump for a promise of 25% additional tax cuts (I am dumb in math, but if that puts them into below zero taxation, DO WE OWE THEM MONEY?) and so many fund the entities I see as so dangerous (like the Heritage Foundation) there is a long way to go.

It is an excellent history lesson, but it should be expanded to cover 2 additional topics: 1) The decline of the separation of church and state ... the rise of white christian nationalism and the scam that is the so called evangelical movement lead by charlatan pretend con men scam preachers. This is a serious and ever growing problem in the USA today. 2) The complete dysfunction of the federal income tax system.....which has been hollowed out over decades and is largely responsible for the ever growing wealth inequality today. A couple of simple principles could go a long ways towards making the income tax system work as it is supposed to do ...1) all forms of income taxed the same, and 2) all taxpayers taxed under the same tax rules (ie. a corporate tax rules for everyone and every entity, including charities, religion, non-profits, etc.)

During my working years I got fired from jobs for trying to organize unions. Even when I tried to join a union, my efforts were frustrated. Because this all worsened my struggles, it's difficult to forget how much more hardship was imposed on me because I was forced to work without Union protection. Oh, I know others have similar stories. But, all this should highlight the need for rank-and-file working people to have unions. This is especially true considering that it's greed and the lust for even more money that makes corporate leaders simply not want to pay their rank-and-file workers living wages. More money goes into the pockets of those corporate leaders who refuse to pay their rank-and-file employees who are the back-bone of and those who make their corporations thrive.

Great insight of a time in my 70 year old life...blue collar who society put on the fringe...gone was the dream of a picket fence and a home maker wife...even my father lost that dream!

Thank you for this! One of the few times I’m grateful for the KZbin algorithm. It is so timely because right now, in many Republican led states, child labor protections are being repealed for very obvious reasons. But their discourse is so filled with prejudice and hate to mask their nefarious greed for cheap labor by taking advantage of migrant child labor.

Yes, Robert Reich, keep up the good narrative. At some point change will ensue. Hard to understand how so many people voted against their own interests.

Reich is a much-respected individual in my book. He is a Rhodes Scholar with a passion for the truth regardless of where it is, even with his friendship with Bill Clinton, who was too busy getting his pipe cleaned to be a good president. Reich worked for positive changes for all, not just a few.
