My players did not appreciate the roper encounter, it's very funny when it comes up at random times like ptsd. One of them affectionately changed the o to a for maximum story retelling efficiency

As a dm i would let the player play the intellect devour as it now has all there memorys and skills if I'm feeling nice whitch I may after ending a player I'll even give them a Astral knowledge like ability
