stephen young I agree about having swimming with objects but Tug of War isn't quite a sport as it used to be. I'd like to see it come back as a permanent demo sport, not as a medal sport, though.

No i think that's not quite correct :) Equestrian events took place even in the panhellenic games (matter of fact it was one of the only sports women could take part in). Sports including animals is simply a part of the Olympic spirit.

The swimming programme at the 1896 Olympics had perhaps the most specialised event in the entire history of the Olympics: the 100m freestyle for sailors. (And, even then, it was only for those in the Greek navy.) I can't believe that wasn't mentioned.

Cricket 🏏 was played as an official sport in the 1900 Olympics in Paris between France 🇫🇷 and Great Britain 🇬🇧, the only two participants (Belgium 🇧🇪 and Netherlands 🇳🇱 withdrew due to planning issues). At that time, it was played across two days, the Test match format. Great Britain beat France by 158 runs to win 🥇 gold. Cricket is set to return to the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, 128 years later, in the Twenty20 format, meaning a match result in 2-3 hours. About 6-8 countries are set to participate in both Men's and women's events with Zimbabwe men 🇿🇼 already having qualified via the 2023 African games, I think.

Let's hope a few of these sports make a comeback or get joined by sports that imho should be dropped. Like Bandy is good enough to come back into the Winter Olympics, but any sports involving an animal should be dropped. Tug of War is debatable. While its kinda a sport, its not as much now as it once was. Maybe it should be just a demo sport in all future Olympics?

It would have been interesting to note why tug of war is steered away from, lots of people don't seem to know that it's actually really dangerous. Many people have died and the likelihood of losing a limb is quite high.

Tug of War honestly should not have been discontinued and people that are powerlifters, regardless of gender, should also be the people that compete in Tug of War. Furthermore, there should be three divisions of Tug of War. The first division should be single opponent versus single opponent, the second division should be a two person team versus another two person team, and the third, and last, division should be a six person team versus a six person team.
