I might be wrong, but i only considers THE OLD WEST to be the real western movies. I just don't consider movies with cars as western movies.

That's why they're called "Modern" Westerns tho. Take No Country For Old Men for example... It moves, feels, and plays like a Classic Western. It also has the same character tropes/archetypes, has the 'white hat vs black hat' as good vs evil, and even follows the same values / code of ethics of the Classics... tho it showcases how that code is not very realistic in these times. There is SO much more even to the Classic Westerns like The Searchers, The Wild Bunch, etc than horses, six-shooters, and saloons. It's the themes, attitude, and heart that truly make a Western, and you don't really need to a film to be set in the mid-1800s thru early-1900s to capture that tone

Didn’t like the revenant at all. Funny how Leonardo didn’t win an Oscar for amazing performances over the years but wins one for this. Man in the wilderness is a much better and more realistic version of the story.

I think so. The genre has a few tropes that can be matched, regardless of where it's set. That's why some Australian movies are also rated as Westerns.

I agree with all of these but Buster Scruggs. Had some really good scenes in it but as a whole quite over-rated I M O. Hostiles was quite good and the intense build up was excellent but the film could have been 30 minutes shorter though
