So this is something that always bothered me about Konami’s design philosophy: Flame Swordsman, a monster that was basically a vanilla in the anime and manga and would have stats that would be average on a level 4 vanilla, bad on a level 5, ended up becoming a fusion monster in the actual game, with 2 specific material that are each also terrible. Neos Wiseman, meanwhile, was a card that was fusion in the anime and based off of cards that, while not impossible to build a fusion deck around, have completely different play styles and focuses in their intended decks. Yet somehow, this one became a main-deck monster in the actual game, but still had a very specific summoning condition that is even more restrictive than just fusion of the two material. Granted, they more or less fixed Wiseman with modern support cards, but I still fail to understand the design mindsets

I saw a comment on a youtube video or a reddit thread that flame swordsman was made a fusion monster so that there would be a reason to put polymerization in the Joey structure deck released alongside Kaiba Yugi and (Pegasus? Or was it Marik?) Must not have been any other fusion for Joey's deck, and it's as good a theory as any other I could think of

​@@iBenjamin1000 That's a nice theory, but the timeline doesn't match up. Flame Swordsman was released in the OCG in 1999. The TCG structure deck that you're thinking of was released in 2003 (and also contained Thousand Dragon). The OCG structure deck was released in 2001 and did not contain Flame Swordsman at all (but did have Thousand Dragon and Alligator's Sword Dragon). I don't know why they decided to make in a fusion monster, but I'm pretty sure structure decks didn't have anything to do with it.

So, I'm gone to hazard a guess here. A lot of non-Fusion Monster's in the anime/manga, became Fusions in the game(early on), because Konami realized that Polymerization and the Fusion mechanic would be kinda dead without Fusions. So, in some wave of lazyness, they just turned some of the anime Monsters into Fusions to fill in while they eventually started making actual Fusion Monsters.

The whole Timius infinite attack thing was a mistransaltion in the dub. Timiaus had infinite attack, resulting in both monsters being destroyed. So it would have been better if Dan Green said "I summon MY OWN force of Infinity!"

Thanks to the spell Cyberdark Impact Cyberdark Dragon is still the better Fusion monster in a pure Cyberdark deck. Putting 5 Cyberdarks + 1 more Dragon monster into the grave and drawing into Overload Fusion is way harder than just having the 3 Cyberdark Machines anywhere in the hand, field or graveyard + 1 more Dragon in grave and being able to search for impact. Sure you can always cheese out Cyberdarkness Dragon with Future Fusion but good luck with that. Cyberdarkness Dragon always ends up being one of those "win more" cards, while Cyberdark Dragon really can change the flow of the battle coming out of nowhere with around 4000-5000 atk. They should errata the searchable Cyberdark Impact into being allowed to Fusion Summon any Cyberdark Fusion Monster. Evil Heros are like Cyberdarks a fun deck nothing competitive. They are completely outclassed by the mixed HERO deck. Dark Gaias main problem was that there never was a good rock type fusion material until recently. Nibiru changed this. A combo I really like to use in fun duels is to use Dark Fusion with Nibiru and Evil Hero Sinister Necrom to go into a 4600 atk Dark Gaia. Special summon Infernal Gainer and use his effect. now you have a 4600 atk double attacker which is protected from targeting for one turn. This one turn is enough, because most of the time you win in that turn. I know that those materials also allow for going into Malicious Bane and most of the time it is the better option, but there are some occurences where Dark Gaia is the better option (mainly when there is a monster on the opponents field with more than 3000 atk).

Dark Fusion gives the protection. It can be used on other Fiend type fusions, making it very versatile. Too bad there really aren't a lot of good Fiend type fusions outside of Dark Gaia and the D/D/D monsters...

You noticed that Legend of Heart banishes from the grave too, right? You can gain advantage off of using it if you actually have all three of the spells in the grave. It's still not great, obviously, but not because you're negging yourself a lot, it's just very cumbersome to use. I also think that Timaeus is perfectly fine because he's a contact fusion and he floats back into his materials so they can use their banish effects again, and then even fuse again if you want. You can also just fuse into him and then put him in defense and then your opponent has to deal with a wall that's nearly impossible to out unless they have tribute removal. He's still not great because again, he's very cumbersome to make, but he's miles ahead of most of the other cards on the list, especially Marine Neos, who is about as hard to make with a much worse payoff.

Regarding Dark Flare Knight, you can get it out by Tributing an Instant Fusioned or Instant Ramened Flame Swordsman with DARK HEX. Still not good tho. But you get 400 atk more atk for your efford. Honestly, I wish Mirage Knight would get some support to make itself usable. I really like the mechanic. Good thing that second monster after is easy to summon now thanks to the Sacred Beast Structure Deck. I feel it's better than majority of Neos and Roid Fusions. I hope the new Cyberdark Dragon becomes useful with the new structure deck. You can also fuse both Cyber Ogre to summon Pair Cycroid. 23:39 Illuminati

Oh trust me I know. I built a sacred Beast Dark Gaia deck cuz it's the only way to reliably search a huge fiend monster and a huge rock monster. (The spell for raviel And gallant for nibiru) and we live streamed it all night. Making Dark Gaia wasn't the issue because it was pretty consistent. The issue is that making a 7K beat stick doesn't win you the duel immediately. It's one monster. I managed to lose a duel where my opponent opened with a Set Card face down and pass simply because plain one huge monster is too slow. We end up having to run a cheesy rocket Hermos Cannon in order to give him a second attack to try to otk.

The thing about the timaeous fusion is that if You summon it in defense position, it can't be destroyed by battle, and since it can't be affected by other card effects, you can only take it out with a kaiju like card.

The Roids field spell has good synergy with with that fusion monster since you can punch with essentially 3k attack instead and it actually doesn't get weaker every turn, it's attack resets

I believe he is referencing from the past. Dark Calling is now a must in HERO decks but before Dark Fusion is a must for a casual Evil HERO deck. Before Dark Calling was a horrible card till Bane and Adusted Gold came along.

As far as stealth union, you can chain material into vehicroid connection zone for it, vehicroid gives it destruction protection and keeps stealth union from being negated and removes the downside of chain material,while deck thinning, Yu-Gi-Oh gx tag force 3 syrus's deck was built on that

For a little while I played dark Gaia in the adamamtia with the evil hero gold which is a 1800 discard for dark calling which means you can cheese him out with any rock in your gy.

Dark Gaia was actually summoned with Super Poly in the anime, but in the OCG/TCG it has that stupid restriction of only being summoned with Dark Fusion. The new Field spell removes that restriction, but it should never have been a thing to begin with.

Well, it was a thing. Dark Gaia is still way better than Infernal Sniper. Infernal Sniper just burns the opponent for 1000. During YOUR standby phase. IF the card is in defense mode. It's really bad. It's not the hassle of bringing out, while Dark Gaia can reasonabally be boosted up to like 5800 (if you use Number 85: Crazy Box and Gaia Plate.) So it's actually something you could play. You could make a Rank 4 Rock spam deck, and then combine your crazy box with gaia plate, which is a pretty niche use. So, I don't think it should really be on the list, let alone in the number 2 spot

If we are talking worse XYZ monsters, I think Number 19 Freezodon would be worth mentioning. It's a rank 5, which is already inherently awkward to make already not many decks can make 2 level 5s. It's a water dinosaur, so it has bad typing. And its effect let's you detach from itself when you want to detach from another XYZ monster you have on board. So it requires you to already have an XYZ monster board, and either that monster needs to have detached all of its materials at the start of your turn, because hard once per turn is a thing, and this implies that the game is go long enough that its effect would matter before it or the mo stereo it's trying to help with its detach effect gets removed, and because Freezodon has no protection and crap stats it will get removed on your opponent's turn if they haven't already negated its activation, because there's 2 negation windows for Freezodon, one for the monster detaching, and one for Freezodon itself. It does nothing of any inherent value, save some cheesy combos that are probably better fulfilled by other cards.

Super Vehicroid - Stealth Union needs 4 monsters, not 3 (21:05).

A monster I was kinda surprised not to be on this list; Trishula, the Dragon of Icy Imprisonment. Same stats as the synchro and ritual Trishula (2700 ATK, 2000 DEF) but a meh effect. First, you must fusion summon it by fusing 3 monsters with different names, OR you can special summon it by banishing 3 monsters with different names from your hand and/or field (or special summoned from the extra deck). The second method isn’t too bad of a cost, but minus 3 (minus 4 if you’re using a fusion spell to summon it - Polymerization, Dragon’s Mirror, Super Poly to name a few) just for a monster that doesn’t crack 3k? OOF! Here’s the catch: if Fusion Trishula’s fusion materials are all originally dragon type (meaning you can’t use DNA Surgery cheese), you get to: remove the card from the top of your deck (face up), remove the top of your opponent’s deck (face up) and remove 1 card from your opponent’s extra deck (you get to look through it and see what your opponent has). That’s it. That to me is waste. At least the other 2 Trishulas banish a card from you opponent’s field, hand (randomly) and graveyard (which are all good, even though you have to hit all 3), and even though you can’t ritual summon Ritual Trishula with a level 9 monster, he still has a (once per turn) effect where you can send a card from your hand to the GY to negate a card/effect that targets a Nekroz monster (Ritual Trishula is also a Nekroz monster). Also, if you don’t use 3 dragons to fusion summon Fusion Trishula, you basically have a vanilla monster (with less than 3k). At least Dark Gaia can get big and if used by Dark Fusion, it gets target protection for the turn, but Fusion Trishula is pretty bad. But that’s just my opinion. Phantasm Emperor Trilojig: Why is this stupid thing in the Sacred Beast deck when I'd have to waste so many materials to get the Sacred Beasts themselves on the field, let alone waste the Dimension Fusion Destruction AND the Sacred Beasts to bring out the stupid thing? You'd be better off just keeping Hamon, Raviel (or its retrain), and Uria on the field. Gem-Knight Aquamarine: I'd rather summon Seraphinite Both of the Neos/Neo-Spacian fusions: Why would I want to summon this? Cyberdark Dragon: No. Just no. Cyber Ogre #2: not even in a bad machine deck would I ever even run Cyber Ogre #1, let alone running Cyber Ogre #2 in my extra deck. Super Roboyaru/Robolady: same as Cyber Ogre #2 Evil Hero Dark Gaia: I would rather not play this when I could make literally any other Evil Hero fusion. Also, needing two huge monsters that are essentially bricks just to make it big enough to be almost unkillable by battle is really not worth it. Timaeus, The Knight of Destiny: I'd much rather use the three Legendary Knights' effects to pop back row and the three spells to fusion summon better monsters. To sum all this up, don't use any of these cards. There are much better fusion monsters you could summon.

The only possible reason I could see to use Trilojig is Poly it with 3 level 10s in your hand, then using De-Fusion to bring the 3 to the field. Even then, most of the good level 10s can't be special summoned like that in the first place. Even if you get 3 really good ones in your hand, while also having both Poly and De-Fusion, it's a 5-card play for 3 monsters (or, you could use them for a rank 10 xyz monster). Like, maybe this is a weird, bad way to use Galaxy Destroyer and wipe your opponent's back row?

Because of the wording, Dark Gaia could be boosted by fusing a Rock with itself to make another copy of itself.

Please correct me if I am wrong, as I haven't played the TCG in a while. Even with using Dark Calling, with it stating "This Special Summon is treated as a Fusion Summon with "Dark Fusion." Would that really not bestow it targeting protection from your opponent's card effects for the turn? It seems like it would since it clarifies that this Special Summon is a Fusion Summon with "Dark Fusion." There might be a hidden ruling that I don't know about, but please do correct me if I am wrong. Because if that targeting immunity for the turn from your opponent is true, as it seems like it should based on the text, then under those conditions, at least it can't have its effect negated through a targeted effect, thus losing all of its attack points otherwise. You can’t give Cyber Ogre a 2K boost to run over something, you need to attack something, then discard a Cyber Ogre, then negate the attack, then it gains 2K ATK and then you can run over something next turn...

Reaper on the Nightmare shoulda been on the list, even if as a dishonorable mention. Sure it's an Instant Fusion target, it can direct attack, it's a Zombie, and it forces discards, but Instant Fusion summons can't attack during that turn and no one would "properly" Fusion Summon an 800-ATK direct attacker with negative protection to help the opponent set up their GY.

I have the weirdest "love" for Cyber Ogre and Cyber Ogre 2, honestly no idea, cause even when those cards were "new" I knew they weren't good, but somehow I liked them... Cybre Ogre 2 should have been a permanent gain half attack of monster it battles, that way it would be decentish protection, since the opponent needs miniumum of 5200 Atk to kill it... Obviously completely ignoring any other removal. It would even back than not be broken and at least back when it would have been a solid boss monster.

I still wish that for more Neo-spacians support with more targets for NEX and making them worth playing and having a retrains of the old targets. After they do that make some more contact fusions that are actually pretty good like the newer ones that came out
