@@rodscarbrough2337 Wanda and Pietro's birth mother was Natayla Maximoff, also known as the Scarlet Witch. For more on her check out the 2016 run of Scarlet Witch. She appears there. The twins birth father is actually a more mysterious figure in the comics at this point.

As a little kid I remember being so confused as to properly explain Scarlet Witch’s abilities in comparison to other heroes. Retcons would have made it much worse. 😅😭

Marvel actually tried to retcon Wolverine out of being a mutant into a werewolf descendant? So crazy. I wonder if this was because Marvel lost the movie rights to mutants? 👀

I don't know if that one was related to movie rights. I think they just wanted to do something different with the character. There were a lot of weird things in Wolverine's past that ended up not going anywhere. It was also initially implied that his metal claws were part of his mutation. As at that time his origin wasn't defined. Weirdly the adamantium coating on his skeleton could be considered a retcon to some, if you think about it.

By definition, Franklin is a mutant- born with powers. Using up his power doesn’t erase that he was born with them. Makes him powerless, but does not negate that he was born with powers. I think Franklin not being a mutant is ridiculous.

I will never get over the fact that the opening premise of AVENGERS DISASSEMBLED was "Wanda suddenly remembers she had and lost children and knows everyone has lied about it to her for years." No, Wanda remembered all that literally just a few issues after her memory was taken away, and then we saw her talk about it at times like when Spider-Woman (Julia) tried to balance being a mom with being a hero, and we saw Wanda make peace with the loss of her children in Avengers West Coast Annual when she learned her kids were alive and well in other parts of the multiverse at least. Then years later, Marvel editorial didn't know or had forgotten all this and just let DISASSEMBLED say 'no, she never remembered, none of those stories happened, she only remembers NOW and now she's CRAAAZY.' Honestly, hilarious.

Used to be that regular humans could give birth to a mutant. Mutants usually develop powers at puberty but some get them sooner- or they're born with the powers as a physical attribute like wings or claws or something. Altered humans like Spidey, Luke Cage, Jessica Drew are more likely to have a mutant offspring. Finally there's altered humans having children with damaged/strange DNA that have powers but aren't mutants- Daisy Johnson, Franklin Richards, Sebastian Druid, etc There's also branches of humanity that are the results of aliens tampering with human DNA to get powers- the Inhumans and some Deviants are like this- and they can breed with humans or mutants- making more hybrids which may or may not have powers. Crazy, right? There's also altered mutants- mutants like Archangel that were experimented on to further enhance a mutant. Sabertooth and Caliban are results of experimenting too. Oh- there's also magically cursed/ enhanced humans, mutants and Inhumans, Deviants, crossbreeds and such. That'd be characters like Jubilee becoming a vampire, a Dire Wraith taking over Darkstar, Illiana Rasputin becoming the Sorceress Supreme of Limbo, etc.

Although there is a slight chance that things cancel out. Eg Graydon Creed being the son of Sabretooth and Mystique but having no powers and eventually being the head of FOH.

Most of these were done cause of the feud between Marvel/Disney and 20th Century Fox. When Fox had the rights to X-Men and the Fantastic Four, they basically claimed to have the rights to all the mutants in the MU. So they were saying Marvel couldn't use any characters designated mutants in films not produced by Fox without their approval and payment. So all those retcons of characters being mutants and then not being mutants was Marvel not wanting to pay Fox to use their characters in non Fox movies.

Wolverine was still a mutant, but they just add that he was descended from Lupins. But given that that was a million or whatever years ago, and I doubt his family line tried to keep them solely Lupin that there is only a small percentage of that dna left in him. He would fall under a offshoot of mutant, kinda like the Externals. But for sure I'm glad it was revealed to be a lie, I mean yes there are still Lupins but thankfully Wolverine isn't descended from them. Franklin wasn't a mutant to start with, he turned himself into one and thankfully it was reveal to be the case later on. I don't know if it was a replanned one or not, but to me it kinda felt like it was. Yeah Apocalypse didn't lose, he didn't want to fight her in the first place. He choose to let her play out her both and said he would not stop her but he couldn't stand with her. He also asked her to leave the staff behind, she didn't and he helped Storm in kind. I wouldn't say it was a retcon as it was Saturnyne underestimating the influence the old god had.

What Marvel teied to do with Doom is so dumb. House of M is one of the best storylines because of how a hero deals with severe psychological trauma and they just said, screw this, she doesn't get a redemption arc. No, this was all done by a villain actually

They do things like that in an attempt to line up with the movies. Because marvel didn’t have the film rights to X men when they made Avengers 2. Which does suck because Quicksilver has some really good X men stories and Wanda… is iffy. At present, they still call him Dad because he’s the closest thing to a father they’ve had. And Quicksilver always manages to sneak a punch in against Fenris for both sides of the family.

I have three that are X men related. 1) Sage was Tessa of the Hellfire club. Granted that did mean that Xavier repaid the girl who saved his life by smuggling her into the country, training her in the basement away from the X men (it’s implied Jean knew) and then sent her off to be a spy in the Hellfire club. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the job, it is very much sex trafficking. 2) Monet is Penance. Marvel staff didn’t like the idea of Gen X’s Monet St Croix not being real and just the gestalt of two kids so they changed it by turning Penance, a character sealed away in her own body, into the OG Monet. Thus, the twins Claudette and Nicole take the form of the person they believe to be the strongest; their sister. Honestly, it’s really sweet. 3) The Externals being the first mutant coven. Honestly, the Externals are messy and now we finally have ground rules for them.
