Brad Pitt was waay worse: "corre*c*to". Btw, I'm Italian and he didn't sound too off in this clip (I didn't see the movie though). Oh, and why do say that he's Italian? He was born and raised in the USA, just because your granpa is Italian doesn't make you one, ask Scorsese. (it works the other way around too: if a person with American parents was born and raised in Italy I wouldn't say that he's American).

@@urracojalpa4481 Cage is ethnically Italian, so yes that makes him Italian. There are many 2nd and 3rd generation Italian Amercians who could pull off an Italian accent way better than Cage can, so that makes Cage's performance look even worse lol. And why bring up Scorsese? He himself identifies as an Italian American. And "American" is not an ethnic group, so of course a person born to "American" parents in another country wouldn't be American.

My California-born mother was studying in Paris, France, in the early 1970s, and at least one French person there thought she was Australian. Our family don't sound like stereotypical Californians (most people would guess we were from somewhere in the Midwest, which some of us indeed are), but we sound NOTHING like Australians. We had some Australian neighbors on our block when I was growing up (New South Wales accent), and to me they sounded like ultra-casual Brits. (They probably thought we just sounded "American.") But, to be fair, it's pretty much the same the other way around. To me, there are only two French accents: Parisian and Haitian. (French Canadian to me sounds like Newfoundlander, and Cajun just sounds like "redneck" with a few French words.)

Kathyuk28 I agree that, as a simulation of an English accent, it was pretty bad. But are realism & accuracy really that important in a Dracula movie? For me, 1992's _Dracula_ works as a movie because it embraces equally its triumphs, its cliches and its outright badness with arms clad in silky red lingerie and the warm gaze of a lover drunk with a rich red wine. The bad parts are so lusciously bad that they become good-Keanu's accent included. That's my take anyway. You're free to have a different one: it's just a self-indulgent horror movie. :-)

Non British people might not get this....but Green Street is by far the worst accent in the history of acting. A guy from the North of England trying to act cockney and it comes off Australian at times, American at times and generally just all over the place. Not good.
@jim19118510 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. That 'mockney' accent was the piss icing on the shit cake. The film was bad, but his 'crapcent' made it terrible.

I don't think Costner was even trying to do an accent for Robin Hood. In fact, I think he deserves credit for making an American accent not seem too out of place in medieval England.

Brad Pitt's accent in Snatch is intentionally gypsy, and it's actually quite good, considering Irish gypsies all have different variations on the Irish accent, none of which anyone who isn't a gypsy can ever understand.

Well, as Francis Ford Coppola once said in a documentary about "The Godfather" trilogy, growing up he watched how movies were representing Italian stereotypes, such as Chico Marx who "talk-a like-a this-a", while him growing up in an Italian family never heard any of his relatives "talk-a like-a this-a". So why Nicolas Cage, who IS in fact Coppola's nephew, would do a bad Italian accent is beyond me...
@TheMasterOfOmni190010 жыл бұрын
You forgot to mention every character in Les Miserables 2012. Non of the actors spoke with the French accent and the ones that did try, accidentally Spoke/sung in a British accent. It just humors me that for a movie about France, nobody sounded even remotely French and I guarantee someone actually knew how to speak French.
@imurfangirl884210 жыл бұрын
it's based on an English production of the French novel so they don't need French accents. it's a theater thing. same can be said for phantom of the opera- English accents in France. the dialects are used as a tool to distinguish social status than location. accents depend on the native tongue of the audience and where the original production was held- the British audience would recognize a cockney accent than a French equivalent.

@markusaurelious115011 жыл бұрын
thankyou! pikey, not irish. he could have slurred a little more but as close as you'd get with a yank. it comes to something though when british actors do American dialects better than those from the damned place.

Speaking of Indiana Jones, it always makes me laugh in THE LAST CRUSADE when Harrison Ford says "No ticket" in his everyday voice and all the German people on the zeppelin think he's also German. What makes it worse is that we see in that very scene that Indy knows some German, so couldn't he at least have said "Keine Fahrkarte"?

In a lot of these cases, I can forgive the actor since if you're not from the country whose accent they're attempting, you can't really tell that their accent is awful, for example, I'm British, and Van Der Beek's southern US accent sounds OK to me, because I'm not used to hearing that accent very much, but to a person from the southern US, it probably sounds a mile off lol However, Keanu Reeves' attempt at a British accent is almost comically bad, it's literally the accent my American cousin does when he makes fun of my accent. It's not even mildly close. It's so bad that I'd be surprised if ANY person thought that was how a British person speaks :P

I agree. That's because Depp likes to observe people very carefully and does his research properly and prepares for his roles for a long time and very passionately. I don't know about Brad Pitt or Keanu Reeves. It is difficult to do an accent but they're actors, that's their job.
