I like Torracat so much I was genuinely a little disappointed when it evolved. I personally think Torracat is one of the best designed middle-stage starter evolutions across all generations. Definitely better than Brionne... I mean to me, that thing looks ridiculous! But, whatever.... opinions are opinions...

Brionne is actually REALLY clever once you see where its design aspects came from. First of all-- and the less amusing of these facts so if you only feel like reading one skip to the next one-- there's the fact that the starters this gen are loosely inspired by the three base elements in alchemy, Salt, Sulfur, and Mercury. Among other things, Sulfur represents fire, the sun, and masculinity; while Mercury represents water, the moon, and femininity. So you get masculine wrestler Incineroar and hyperfeminine Brionne and Primarina. (Then, perhaps less intentional but still fun, the symbol for salt can also literally be used as a symbol for Agender irl-- ⊖ to go with ♂ and ♀ -- so Decidueye being the least gendered-looking of the three rounds out nicely.) But then! More than that, it's the "Pop Star" Pokemon. It's "Pop" both as music, because it sings and is flashy and upbeat etc and because it has its whole bubble gimmick, and bubbles pop. So then it goes a step FARTHER, and do you know what Brionne moderately resembles? The SODA POP sprite in the games! So it's a pun on not just two but THREE kinds of pop! Which is really cute if you ask me. xD

Sorry mate, i disagree with you on Torracat. The mid evolution thats really awkward out of the three starters is Rowlet's. A cute adorable owl, the final evolution is a badass ghost archer owl, but then in the middle is an emo owl thats hitting its puberty. Although, Game Freak caught me off guard on Incineroar, I thought that the evolution line would keep going like a four legged feline pokemon, eventually turning to some sort of Lion i guess. But he just evolved to a wannabe wrestler (Dont get me wrong, i love Incineror, since I chose Litten as my starter)

Exeggutor having long makes sence because if it is in a good climate for growth it will grow more because it is a plant pokémon. And it is based on palm and dragon fruit tree. Dugtrio having hair doesn't make sense. That pokémon is digging through dirt all the time. How do you manage to stick something to your head so firmly? I wouldn't be even suprised if you could use Dig with Alolan Dugtrio and when it emerged again it would be a regular Dugtrio because those hair won't stick to it.

I know this is incredibly late but there are two major problems I have with this list: 1. It’s inconsistent. In the first two segments you give pretty different reasons for disliking Komala and Oricorio (hard c), but every other segment is based entirely on design. Why? You didn’t complain at all about the first two’s designs, so why suddenly have it be your main complaint for the rest of the list. I get that it’s a least favourite list and not a worst list so opinions, but that doesn’t mean you can just ignore consistency. 2. In your segments about Oricorio and Bruxish, you mention that they’re not good in battle (again making me bring up the consistency argument) but you never explain your reasoning. You could have mentioned their relatively low base stat totals and/or how their signature abilities aren’t good for many situations, but no, you just assume that people will just understand what you mean. You have to back up your arguments. For example; I somewhat disagree with Bruxish being not good in battle, because it has relatively good attack (base 105) and speed (base 92), it has the signature attack Psychic Fangs, a physical psychic type move with 85 base power and the ability to make the opponent flinch and it’s second ability is Strong Jaw which can make that attack even stronger. So while it has somewhat poor defensive stats (both at 70), it definitely has enough offensive capabilities to be a viable member of your party. There, it’s easy. I know opinions are personal and I can’t change your feelings towards any of these Pokemon, but facts and research can help your viewers understand your opinion much better.

It is sad that so many people hate on the Ultra Beasts. I like them (Pheromosa and Poipole are my favorites). They are basically similar to Deoxys in that they are basically alien Pokemon and I like the idea and think it could be expanded upon (like interdimensional versions of Pokemon (not just Kanto Pokemon like Alola and Galar forms).

The only middle stage evolution for starters that doesn't seem awkward is the first gen. All three, charmeleon, wartortle, and ivysaur, seem to be a perfect fit. I think grovyle could fit well too, but other wise, I think the rest are all rather awkward.

Monferno isn't that bad, I just feel it's kind of an awkward in between stage but it's better than others. The Middle stage for swampert, I think he might be a good Middle stage design wise. Still awkward but the transition into swampert isn't super odd.

The things you said about Oricorio positively baffle me. It's not good?! Are you high? Ori was one of THE MVP's of my playthroughs of Sun and Moon. The Cheerleader form in particular absolutely owns. She's also played a huge roll in me winning quite a few competitive battles. And hard to catch? Most of the Ori's my friends and siblings and I ever caught, we rarely used more than three pokeballs. Why did Michael considered this Oricorio hard to catch? I guess that he didn't lower its HP to the red zone using False Swipe then paralyze or put them to sleep and you're done. I guess the one he hates was its movesets as it cannot learn moves outside of Revelation Dance and you need to train it until level 40.

Michael factored in competitive viability and statistics when making this list, and it happens that Oricorio's stat spread is mediocre. It doesn't have a single base stat above 100, and its high special attack doesn't synergize well with its move pool being mostly physical. Also, just because it carried your team in Sun and Moon doesn't make it good. I had an Omastar in FireRed that let me sweep through Giovanni's gym, but Omastar still isn't the best since it has a lot of weaknesses because its typing is awful.

Alolan Persian is actually really overpowered in some ways. It has Fur Coat, one of the best abilities in Pokémon ever if you want him to be defensive. You can make it Nasty Plot sweep as another option.

I personally like Oricorio, I have had the best experiences with it, and caught it first try. It has knocked out Lurantis in the toughest trial, and took out a Toucannon, Hariyama, and Incineroar singlehandedly in a link battle. It's kind of made him my favorite, luckiest Pokemon, and it seems that my experiences were pretty much your opposites.

+K Foye Yes, but no. Decidueye can be used in more situations making it more of and all around choice, while dhelmise is much stronger in certain situations. It's a matter of choice, one pokemon that's okay in many situations or one that's really good in certain ones. It's pretty cool how pokemon that are so similar are also pretty different.

nah it sucks. first Litten was my fav, but no, the evolution line is terrible. I have always chosen the fire type starter, except for Fennekin and now Litten, and i was so excited for something like a forelegged fire tiger or something, but no they have to buff him up and make some wrestler bullshit pokemon out of him. I personally love torracat. The fire bell was a neat idea and it looks like a strong cat that still has some cuteness to it. Incineroar is the one who ruined it for me not Torracat. It's my favorite middle evolution of the starters with Dartrix being my least partly because of its dex entry (Sorry dartrix I really don't like egotistical pokemon who are going to stop fighting because of DIRT) I honestly never realized people disliked Torracat because it had always seemed like a great design for me.
