Shinato was absolutely amazing in playground yugioh. It had pretty much the highest ATK available among any reasonably attainable cards. In those scenarios, once you brought out a boss monster, your opponent would just set a defender every turn until they drew removal, but Shinato defied that by being able to damage them anyway. One of the people in my school would brutalize everyone with Shinato if they couldn't answer it in a few turns.

Worth mentioning with Cu Chulainn and Lycanthorpe, they were actually released in the same set as Advanced Ritual Art, in an effort to make a "normal monsters matter" set. Unfortunately they had to distinction of ALSO being in the same set as Grandmaster of the Six Samurai, and even following things like Chimeratech Overload Dragon by 2 sets. Shows you how crazy all over the place the power level of early yugioh was. Neo Spacian Grand Mole being a staple in the same set was further salt in the wound. To give you more context for timeframe, Raiza the Storm Monarch would be released the following set, Neo Alius the set after, the majority of gladiator beasts the set after that, Dark Armed Dragon the next set, followed by Judgment Dragon, Gladiator Beast Gyzarus and Honest.

@@misterbadguy7325 That doesn't really matter for demise since his bonus effect is just not having to pay life points, with this deck you wanna get a r10 Ruin with the bonus effect of attacking twice (which is a lot easier to get if you use the impcantations to search the monster you're gonna use as a material) and a demise on field, either the r8 or the r10 works and you can use the impcantations as materials for him, using the r8 version of demise is even marginally better because he can use the effect multiple times to destroy cards that come back after being destroyed, you can pull the otk off pretty often and through a single disruption depending on your hand, but if the opponent doesn't let you search or has a destruction immune monster with more than 3000 atk it's over for you (unless you're a weirdo and run honest and dark honest to beat over monsters in this very specific situation).

@@isaacvitela5131 I mean the OP isn't saying there are ZERO strong ritual monsters, but that on average the entire mechanic should bring out the strongest monsters on AVERAGE. And it's a fairly good point. Ritual summoning is the most difficult and punishing summoning mechanic there is (by itself (as in ignoring the monsters who add harsher conditions onto their Simmons)). A broken Ritual monster is inherently more balanced than a broken link monster (or any other extra deck) because it takes that much more effort to summon a ritual monster. Worse case scenario if it's decided a ritual monster is TOO broken, all Konami needs to do to slow it down is ban or limit the archetype specific ritual card. It kinda just makes sense if you're making a trading card game. For that same matter, I'd say the strongest (on average) monster effects should be on Gemini monsters because that inherently makes broken effects slower. I mean in neither case would the broken effects necessarily fix the inherent problems with the mechanic, but I am 100% sure that having so many mediocre monsters is helping neither mechanic.

Not really. At best you could argue that it should be ahead of vendread chimera. Every card on the list after that is just worse. Shinato has a similar effect and more attack, but i'd still say emerald eagle is better because it automatically destroys the monster and doesn’t care about battle position like Shinato does. And this is the default effect of the card so you don't have to summon it twice to get it. The part that requires you to summon it twice is the nuke effect. Plus it has the salamangreat archetype backing it where as half the cards on this list don't have an archetype at all.

You can actually use it multiple times. The wording just makes it confusing. The problem: good luck getting 6+ spell counters on a ritual monster, keep that ritual monster on the field long enough to do so, and quickly rack up spell counters without the use of decks that use them, since those other spell counter decks devote so many other cards to effectively include Legendary Flame Lord. So yeah, they might as well have just said “you can only use this effect once per Duel.” And I say “once per DUEL”, because who the hell is gonna bring this shit back from the grave!?

Actually, it says "When there are 3 Spell Counters on this card", which means if you have some way to add/remove Spell Counters on it then bring it back to 3, then you can trigger its effect again. Although the text shown in the video does imply that it's mandatory.

Making "playable" decks is not toooo hard, but making "good meta decks" is kinda impossible. If any given person is smart enough to make old stuff viable, then that same person should be able to make completly broken stuff with new cards, which mean someone else can too, and then the meta advances and the old stuff is almost worthless again. On the other hand there are cards that have amazing combo potential with new cards, and one could always be the first to notice that.

The problem is speed. The moment that game would move in the same direction this one did, the Ritual support would need to be bonkers in an environment where everything else is not. At this point in time, Rituals themselves need hyper consistency and hyper effects to keep up. Things like this and Fusions are disadvantaged by the card requirements. Syncro are easier, xyz are even more so. Links are super easy. So you need hyper focused archetypes and great effects. Dragoon is not good because is a fusion, is good despite of that. Bypass the inherit limitations. Rituals themselves are at another level. So Neckroz, but earlier.

I think the explanation of Shinato missed out on a bit of history. Remember how early Yu-Gi-Oh was about pure beatstick potential? Summoned Skull wasn't played because it was a fiend or a dark attribute. It was simply a 2500 attack monster with one tribute. Back in those days, you never would ever want to play Magician of Black Chaos or Zera the Mant because they only had 2800 attack, unless you specifically wanted a dark attribute or spellcaster/fiend typing, which served almost no purpose. Instead, you played Black Luster Soldier, because it had the higher attack value of 3000 while also being an 8 star ritual monster. Shinato basically eclipsed Black Luster Soldier by having an even higher attack value of 3300, while still having the exact same summoning condition, aka a generic level 8 ritual summon. While ritual summoning was inherently weak without secondary effects on the ritual spell and/or incredible effects on the monster, Shinato was the best you could get before any of that was added. In fact, it had a 3D summoning animation back in the Nightmare Troubadour game on the Nintendo DS because of that honor.

I have got a theory that I can't prove about ritual monsters.. Maybe during the early stages of yugioh(before it was released in the maeket) they were originally intended to be placed in the extra deck but they had to change it since they would overshadow fushion monster by a lot. Why would anyone use a fushion monster which requires a fusion card and 2 or more very specific monsters when the ritual monsters required a ritual card but could be summoned with pretty much every other monster? Probably the synchro monsters are a recycled and improved version of that rejected idea.

That's actually how they balanced Ritual and Fusion Monsters from the early days of YGO; Fusion Monsters need a specific Spell Cards and Materials to Summon a Monster that is readily available everytime (due to being in the then-called Fusion Deck), whereas Ritual Monsters require a certain Spell Card and any materials as long as they meet the level requirements with the risk of not having the Ritual Monster on hand, or vice versa. They have roughly the same amount of risk and reward, thus balancing (to the point that they were overbalanced) these monster types, at least in the early days that Tribute Summoning were far more desirable than either.

Interestingly, that's how they originally were in the anime. When Yugi first summoned Black Luster Soldier he just had to draw the spell card for it, implying that like Fusion, Ritual monsters came from outside the deck. Unfortunately, at the time the ability to special summon a high attack level monsters with just one card and generic material was seen as too powerful. Heck, in the early days of Yugioh, Ritual was still seen as a step above Fusion, as they needed two specific cards from the main deck, as opposed to Fusion that required at least 3. That's why you would see decks based around Ritual summoning in the early days of Yugioh, where a player would use a deck with 3 Sonic birds + 3 Senjus + Sangan and Witch of the Black Forest to search through their decks for the required cards (it also helped the one of the early Ritual monsters was Relinquished, which was one of the best early boss monsters). By comparison, Fusion based decks didn't really become a thing until Hero decks. Of course in the end, the fact that Fusion monsters were in the extra deck meant they could evolve to keep up with the game in a way that Ritual monsters couldn't. Nowadays there are so many cards that can summon a Fusion monster using materials from the deck or graveyard if not bypass the material requirements altogether (eg. Instant Fusion). By comparison, even if you have a Ritual spell card that can use materials from the deck or graveyard you still have to draw it and the Ritual monster. Heck, even a Ritual spell card that can bring out a Ritual monsters AND its materials from the deck may still not be appealing these days due to the risk of drawing that Ritual monster and then having a Garnett in hand.

The card text in the Legendary Flame Lord card you showed in this video sounds like its monster destruction effect is mandatory and only triggers once the number of Spell Counters on it reaches 3. I love how emerald eagle is the complete antithesis of what salads do: It forces you to use 2 ritual monsters and 2 ritual spells (or having some means of recurring them in archetype) AND materials to summon the 1st eagle, which the deck can’t comfortably do with 2 or fewer monsters outside of drawing a Jaguar and falco in your opening hand, so by the end you went NEG 5 to summon a raigeki.

imo the Blue Eyes Chaos MAX and Chaos Dragon kinda synergizes in some certain cases (such as more than 1 monsters, you let the Chaos Dragon attack first then do it's effect, and next is attacking with Chaos MAX on the defense position 0/0 card, and with it's double piercing damage, most likely you'll win the duel) in my experience at least

In 9:34 you said, that Shinato was summoned with advanced ritual art. But is written on the card "This card can only be ritual summoned with the ritual spell card, shinato's ark". Now Im confused. I thought, this limitation prevents Shinato from beeing ritual summoned by generic ritual spell cards. Can someone help me with this?
@agitpolat1061
@agitpolat1061 3 жыл бұрын
The Difference is that it doesn't say "and cannot be summoned in any other way". The Limitation is only if you want to specifically "Ritual" Summon it (otherwise you also couldn't use Monster Reborn on it for example). Meanwhile, Advanced Ritual Art specifically mentions you can "Summon any 1 Ritual Monster". There is an official rule saying something like "When you have two things where one says you can't do something, and the other says you can, then you can", specifically for situations like this.

I actually run a deck centeed around Ritual Monsters, but for the specific reason of using another card most consider "bad": The Seal of Orichalcos. you can't summon from the Extra Deck with that on the field, but since Ritual monsters are kept in the Main Deck, they sidestep its effect quite nicely. So it's a "just for the hell of it" deck I threw together to see how fun it could be.

I know that we've gone FAR past the point where you can make fundamental changes to old summoning mechanics, but I always kinda wished that Ritual monsters lived in the Extra deck, so you'd only have to draw their spell. I wonder how that would have changed the early years of the game? Relinquished would probably have been meta - people played Metamorphosis to make Thousand-Eyes off of specific targets, being able to Black Illusion Ritual any monster (even ones in your hand) into a Relinquished would have been useful. Just for the stealing effect, even though it doesn't lock down the field like Thousand-Eyes.
@dancorneanu9144
@dancorneanu9144 3 жыл бұрын
That would mean a weird hybrid of Syncro and Fusion. Specific target levels and dependent on deck spell. Maybe if they kept a proportional power to ease of summon between cards. In that time frame, a Relinquished would have been bonkers. You cut it's cost in half, and now that has to content with him with early fusions... Oh boy. Baring just staple cards like Raigeki and Dark Hole. Maybe a trap heavy deck? Combine this with Jinzo. Oh, boy.

That was how Rituals seemed to work in the early video games, and even the manga to some degree, which makes it weird that they went "nah, in the hand bro."
@dancorneanu9144
@dancorneanu9144 3 жыл бұрын
@@misterbadguy7325 In early Yugioh, as in the original manga and games, the cards that change (Fusions and Rituals, Dark Sage) were not actual cards. The idea was the cards actually changed or fused. The actual entities. Based on charts. It was supposed to be translated that they come from an infinite deck of cards with cards for every combination. So the only thing you needed was the target material and the spell. Konami wanted to make it into what we got today. The same way we got Fussion Flame Swordsman and Dark Sage in main deck. Dark Sage with only Dark Magician and Time Wizard would be a little easiear to get to. And with a free spell search... Any spell. That would be... decent at that time with a little more suport.
@LazurBeemz
@LazurBeemz 3 жыл бұрын
@@dancorneanu9144 the thing is, aside from Relinquished and Demise, I can't think of any other early Ritual monsters that would see play, even with that change. A big beater like Shinato would still require two tributes, and that's STILL a lot of resources to ask. Maybe Paladin of White Dragon would actually be okay? in Goat format, a special-summoned 1900 attacker who blows up troublesome set monsters is pretty good, and since he'd only require (usually) 1 card tribute, that's pretty manageable.
@dancorneanu9144
@dancorneanu9144 3 жыл бұрын
@@LazurBeemz Yes, but think with wah the other guy has. Fussions. That do almost nothing for weird cards. This guys, with no specific cost, you just need the spell and any card you have in your hand. Free body. Tribute fodder. Shinato big boy. With no need for tribute. In the days of one tribute 2500 body. Jinzo removal. But, like I said, very in line with early card desighn. Best ritual monster in the game, Blue-Eyes Chaos Max Dragon. Can't be targeted or destroyed by card effects, inflicts double piercing battle damage and is a 4,000ATK Beatstick that is easy to summon out, especially in a Blue-Eyes deck. If you can think of a better ritual monster card that can beat all these criterias, then I will change my mind.

What I don't understand is this: Turning of the World begins with: "This card is used..." that means you can't use it for any other monster except for the monster(s) stated. However... Chaos Form starts with: "This card can be used..." so does that mean I can use it with any Ritual Monster?
