I did a full blown transition in the world of xLights from Aurora Borealis, overnight, so I am missing good stuff. I learned a lot from this video especially the clean up files location. Kudos.

Thanks for the points, have one not sure how to fix, downloaded a sequence and purchased the media but when I place the media in it out of time with all the models, is there a way to move the media forward or back , I have tried to move the model nut there are a few that will not move.

I'm not sure what you mean by media. Do you mean videos, music, other?

@@xTremeSequences I downloaded the music and then imported the sequence and mapped my props, but it seems that the music I have has a longer intro than the original and I downloaded what they said they had, and where they start singing in the sequence ( has a mega tree with faces on it) is sooner than when they start from the audio

Right clicking on a spot in 2d and checking set center offset here is so much faster than using the x and y

A pixel conteoller is a pixel controller. XLights works with most of them the same way. Use Auto Layout and Auto Size for your controllers. xLi g hrs will do the rest when you upload it to your controllers.

Hi Ron, I have been out of the hobby since last season due to a job change and haven't been able to do anything with xlights to date. This year I think I may just run last years show no new changes. I have a basic layout and would like your opinion on how to improve it perhaps start over without costing to much additional $$. Would it be possible to take a look at my layout and get some suggestions? I also would like to layout to be more accessible so possibly removing the outlines that are up high. Thank you in advance. Backup.. although now at least a backup copy will be kept, if you aren't a seasoned user of xLights and only open it around the holidays, you should keep more backups.. else when you open xLights the next season, all but the latest one will be wipped. Center.. right click where you want the center to be... Set Center Offset Here Cleanup file location, "dumps" all into an Images/Vidoes folder and sequnce specifc subfolder; that's import from zip. It can overide other existing assets with the same name, Santa.jpg, WavingFlag.mp4... be careful Still no go on unecessary groups...

It's extra special that you have listed so many of my suggestions and requests and acted on them to help improve xLights for the community. It is noticeable that you have learned much from Keith, Dan, and Gil. Keep up the great work.

This may be unimportant. 2D vs 3D. I'm new this year. I set up my layout in 2D. Decided to explore switching to 3D. Click the 3D check box, and everything is slammed to the right. It looks wrong. So- STOP... what's wrong? My show looks great... but my mega-tree is off the screen on the right side. Looking at my ALL group, the red cross (with 3D UNCHECKED) is DEAD CENTER on my house as expected. I was going to do the 3D model with the procedure using the website where you take a pic at all 4 corners. And all the other steps to create the required .obj file. But it will NOT work. Because there are fences and I cannot get my 4 corners on the left side due to property line being 3' from the left side of my house. I will be happy with 2D and it is AMAZING right now as it is. So forget 3D. I may buy another house just for better light shows... we are on a 70x120 city lot- 2nd house in so our house is visible from the main drag and draws attention. I wish also that you would touch on topics as you go through a series- maybe with what you have learned (to maybe better convey the sub-topic). Instead of saying, go back and look that up because "I have 100's (or many) of videos about that". I don't have time to dig or search. Or can you SUGGEST one that would be prudent to what you are talking about? I know restating the obvious gets boring (I too am a technical instructor- I teach Rockwell AB PLC Ladder Logistics- Compact Logix and Omni Flow Computers). But giving X/ Y meanings (for example) is a little basic... I guess in a broad audience you deemed that was needed. Sorry I'm nit picky. You guys that do this are very patient and probably OCD'ish as am I. I have to rein in my tendency to go off on tangents... we can't let perfection stand in the way of progress. When learning a new topic, I like to go the the finished product and reverse dissect it to fill in the gaps. THANK YOU for all you do Ron! best regards, Pat

It's not about importance. It's about time and keeping up with all of the changes. I offer my tutorials for free and share my experience and advice. It takes a full day to make a video. I earn my living from the sequences I make, so the business side would tell me to stop making videos and focus on the business. When it becomes an expectation, I will stop making tutorials. I do these because I enjoy sharing knowledge. I usually will include a link when asked but if it is on a weekend and I am spending time with my family dont expect me to do what you are capable if doing. I still have to go look for the video just like you would.

I seem to learn and retain it better. Also, I'm listening at work with headphones when I can. THANK YOU again for all you do for this great hobby!
