Thing is these things are always subjective. I think the key is to just enjoy it and if your favourites get mentioned it’s a bonus and take it all with a large pinch of salt. Everyone has different tastes. I can’t pretty much guarantee no two gamers too 100’s will look the same. I for example was born in 1988 so games from about 94-04 hold particular special memories because they’re from my younger days.

Every time I show my 75yo dad (who randomly brought home an Intellivision back in the '70s) the trailer for a new game that I think looks particularly impressive visually, he always looks to my mom and says, "I think they've gotten a little better since Pong." He's just recently discovered how engrossing videogames are now in their stories, mechanics, etc, as well as the appeal of letsplays. During quarantine I threw myself back into Breath of the Wild as a distraction from the stress of keeping them safe (I live with them as their caregiver and help take care of the house, run errands, etc, and they were both VERY high risk), and while he didn't start out purposely doing it, he ended up continuously distracted from his laptop due to watching me play. After a few days he again said to my mom, "So this is basically like a really long interactive movie, isn't it?" It was particularly notable when I showed him the trailer for Horizon Forbidden West on the big 4K TV in the living room without telling him what it was at first since he enjoys movies/TV lot. When it was over I paused it before the PlayStation logo came up and told him "That was a videogame." His jaw practically hit the floor. "I thought those were actual PEOPLE!!"

A couple of points: Limiting a series’ number of entries should not happen in an all time top 100 for obvious reasons. Also, inflating a game’s position too much because of its impact can become a seriously questionable criteria after some point. For that logic, the best books ever would be the bible, mein kampf or even the yellow pages 😂

Just don't get how FF7 or the remake got left out but FF9 did. Both are wonderful games but FF7 was just a masterclass of a game with wonderful characters, one of the most iconic villains and protagonists. Rich lore, deep undertone of human actions affecting not only themselves. It was such a great game and the only reason I'm a gamer today. Without that game I don't think I would have ever fallen in love with video games.

I must agree with the first one being Super Mario 64, even though my personal fav games ever are Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 and Super Mario Odyssey. Super Mario 64 has to be my most played game in my life even though I've never played it on an actual nintendo 64. I played it for the first time around 7 years ago. And I've completed and 100% it countless times. It is just so fun, and I just can't somehow get enough of it.

Well since they didn't do it, i will. Honorable mentions. This time with what i think are the best games of each series: Super Mario Odyssey: My first Nintendo switch game and the reason i got a switch in the first place. The legend of Zelda: A Link to the past: The first Zelda game i ever played. MegaMan 9: When the blue bomber made a challenging but awesome return. God of War 3: Fighting back against gods and titans and winning is oh so satisfying! Final Fantasy 10: The story, characters and fights are the most fun in this entry of the series. Pokemon HeartGold: Seriously, why do people favor the Gameboy version more? The remake does everything so much better that it shouldn't even be a competition. Donkey Kong country tropical freeze: The return of DK and friends in their coolest adventure. Figuratively and literally. Shantae: Half Genie Hero: Action, adventure, randomness and hot girls all in one package! Furi: A boss rush game because bosses are the best part of video games. Kirby and the forgotten land: A 3d adventure that works out very well along with new bosses and power ups!

They left out my favorite bit of Space Invaders trivia. In each level the aliens speed up a little each time you destroy one of their ships. That wasn't a planned feature. It was just the hardware having an easier time drawing the picture as it had fewer and fewer elements to keep track of.

I remember, about a year ago, I was dragged to an after-party at someone's house, I didn't know, because I was the designated driver. We're there for about 10 mins when I noticed the owner of the house had a PS4. I saw that they had The Last of Us and I told my friend that it had the best starting mission of any game I ever played. I asked the owner if I could juat play the first mission to show my friend. The owner said to help myself and I sat my friend down as the game started. Next thing I know I had just about every person at the party standing around watching me play. I could tell they were into it, cause after they witnessed the heartbreak, everyone was asking me to play a bit longer cause they wanted to see what happens. When we got introduced to the clicker, everyone just about got up and left saying if that's the first monster we're facing, they dont want to see the rest. Then there Inam yelling out "c'mon you guys it's just fungus taking over their bodies! Think of them as walking mushrooms!" Hahaha
