Some wrestlers do something called “strong style” which became really popular in Japan with guys like Nakamura and Shibata actually hitting their opponent full force. I watched an interview where they explained how they can hit each other so hard and not cause real damage; and they plan the spots and know where to hit, instead of aiming for the front of the face they’ll aim for the cheek with those blows because of the area being hit being larger and at less risk for serious injury. It’s travelled around the world and most independent promotions feature a lot of really striking strategically done to look brutal and but be as safe as possible. Injuries still happen, some horrible, like the before mentioned Shibata performing a stiff headbutt that gave him a subdural hematoma that caused him to get rushed to the hospital and retire for several years. You should watch some stiff moments from NJPW, that shit is brutal because they are actually just hitting the shit out of each other.

Being stiff in wrestling context is just a hard hitting style of wrestling or hitting your opponent very hard. There's a term called "Hard Way" in which you intentionally make them bleed like those clips with Lesnar elbowing. They know it's coming, it's all talked-about beforehand. They do hit each other for real but there is a such thing as being too stiff. And if a wrestler hits another harder than what was agreed upon that wrestler would get what's called a "Receipt". Accidents in wrestling are more like breaking someone's bones or knocking them out.

There's many a lesson to be learned in anything you do in life, one of my first was NEVER in life do you tell another person to hit you as hard as you can I've knocked out two people, been knocked out at least one probably 3 time's, take a old fools advice never ask to be hit that hard just because one man has tree trunks for arms dude with tooth pick arms it tought right he can an will knock you out

These were some pretty good stiffs (hard hits on purpose) and receipts (hard hits in response to unplanned stiffs). Some of them were botches (bad mistakes) though, particularly the ones that landed on their heads and necks after a suplex (grab the body and flip backwards landing on back), drop (also springboard or jumping from top rope), or piledriver (hoisting an inverted body headfirst into the ground without touching). You usually don't want botches like those ones in wrestling since they can cause near fatal injuries, paralysis, strokes, and/or death. A more famous botch was when Steve Austin broke his neck, something that would cause him to retire later on. Same sort of thing happened to Bret Hart after Bill Goldberg superkicked (high long kick in the face, see 'sweet chin music') him, causing a concussion which rattled his brain.

A stiff hit is a legit hit. Lots of times a wrestler will deliver a real punch or kick on accident and they'll get what's called a receipt in return which is basically a payback hit. One of the most popular recent examples of this was when Braun Strowman accidentally kneed Brock Lesnar in the face and Brock responded with a couple of real punches

The truth is, I've seen numerous WWE shows, including Raw and SmackDown, as well as some major pay-per-views (WM, Hell in a Cell, and SummerSlam), and I'm not sure why people think this is all a hoax. Believe me, I was usually in the front row, and this is a terrifying sport. There are no margins for error; even a minor mistake can result in or catastrophic injury. They are genuinely striking themselves for our entertainment. Massive respect to these superstars. These guys practise their moves for hours and hours before fighting someone in the ring.

“How do they fake the sounds?” Good question. With things like Chops (the slaps) the sounds is authentic. With the kicks, however, is different. A lot of times, especially with knees and super kicks, the wrestler will slap their thigh to get an echoing boom to sound out.

The term 'Stiff' in wrestling is when a wrestler performs their move(s) and they don't pull the move to not intentionally hurt the other wrestler. The wrestler who did the 'Stiff Move' should then expect some kind of retaliation, in wrestling that is known as a 'Receipt'.
@TrashBoat112 жыл бұрын
A lot of the new generation dudes take a lot of influence from the Japanese Pro Wrestling style, and in that style of wrestling it's treated more like pure sport with the hard hits and aggression rather than having a flashy character with crazy clothes and big personalities. It's all one in the same, but that's why the new stuff is so much more hard hitting than before

So some of these are preplanned and are either beautifully tight (meaning they look like actual contact) or were real shots from stiff performers or by accident. In wrestling, there's a price to pay for stiffing somebody, on purpose or by accident. It's called a receipt. You paid to get a shot, here's the receipt. So they go stiff back at you. You can tell in the context of the match usually. A guy either clearly goes at somebody or the pace/movement just goes from what it was the whole match to something else. Some of these are receipts. Most are just really well done wrestling and it blurs the line between real and fake.
@VickStarkiller2 жыл бұрын
That’s the magic of wrestling. You don’t know what hits are real and what hits are fake. Some of these are just the guys slapping their legs to make that clapping sound but there are more than a few here that were legitimate hits.
