No he was not a genius. Cus D'Amato was a boxing genius, Mike was a gifted physical specimen who Cus perfected. When under Cus's control he was virtually unbeatable, when Cus died and he started making his own decisions, he was very beatable.

@@Bundy6Hunna what you say is true, but it was Cus D'Amato that gave it him. They would sit together at nights and watch films of old boxing greats together and Cus would tell him what made each boxer great. It was Cus who hired Rooney and Jacobs to lead him. Cus did one other thing that no one else ever had for Mike, he gave him love and a purpose. When Cus passed away, Mike lost his compas. It wasn't until then that he fired Jacobs and then Rooney. Perhaps worse was then unprotected that Don King got his hooks into Mike.

Talent? You are dead wrong. 100% wrong. Mike Tyson was the smallest heavyweight by far at 5'10. Even that was probably a lie, more like 5'8. He was not gifted with the body to fight the biggest baddest men on the planet. Nothing about Tyson's fighting ability was natural except for one thing... Mike Tyson was a boxing savant. Once he began studying he learned the sport faster and better than anyone. He worked endlessly in the gym too, building the power everyone loves and the body behind it. With one punch Tyson could end your life. He was able to do that against the biggest and best on the planet, the heavyweights, because of his skill. Mike Tyson was physically just average. No natural talent at all.

We all would have liked to have seen better fights in his prime. But we didn't get it, so we will never know. I wouldn't argue against who Tyson has fought. But his talent is undeniable. To hold him responsible for being what Don King treated him as a dog in a dogfight, would be like holding the dog responsible for the other dog he was pit against. Unpopular opinion to throw into a video like this: Evander Holyfield is that boxer that has impressed me the most. (I only mention him since he got mentioned in this video) He was known as the Warrior Spirit (alongside The Real Deal) for a reason. Eventhough he was considered "the smaller man" in most of his matches,he never backed down on anyone. And he almost always gave a really good performance against them (if we take away thoose scandalous fights and when he was way past his prime, closer to his 50s) He just tried so desperately to set that record, and his own mind drove him until it was no longer advicable to let him step into the ring. For people unaware of just how good he was, there is a Evander Holyfield Warrior Spirit 1 and 2 out on YT,it has gotten abit blurry ever since YT changed theyr resolution system,as it was posted 13 years ago,but it has alot of really rare early footage of Evander seeking out a chance to go professional, and all the fights from there basically. Maybe not the best quality to recommend for reactions, but worthy of a look regardless. There is always the shorter but clearer video "legendary skills of Evander Holyfield". Mike Tyson has gotten the tag "Ego",while Evander Holyfield got "Humility". Now granted,Evander quickly got confidence in his own skills in the ring, but he always came out humble even in victory or defeat. I do understand why people favor a guy like Mike though,a guy from the streets that literally took "street fighting and attitude" into boxing,i get that and respect that. Also,i would say that Mike learned how to become more "classy" over the years. Like when the beast Bob Sapp tried assaulting him dressed up in the crowd, and it ended up with Mike smiling well protected in the ring while saying: "Sign the contract big boy, sign the contract!" An earlier version of Mike would have lost it and attacked Sapp in that ring,to teach him a lesson, not caring about Sapp being exhausted from his own fight. So no disrespect towards Mike,i do ofc see his skillset in the ring, like i said he has that "in your face street fighting" style, and i can appreciate people that has been through alot, but as private personalities and public figures using thoose experiences to improve themselfs. I still like people like Lennox Lewis and other greats more then Mike though. Im not a big fan of people that do too much scandalous stuff,or it depends on what type of crime or immorale stuff they have been doing, and if its a 1 time thing or keeps on happening.

Mike said Cus used to tell him that winning wasn't enough and he had to be entertaining. Mike thought the smaller fighters were more entertaining to him, so he wanted to fight like them with the punches in bunches, Mike also happens to have been an incredibly capable puncher and Heavyweights were not used to seeing a guy hit them in succession so many times rapidly. Evander was also a smaller guy, that's why he was able to have ring generalship with Mike. Mike was taught to fight bigger guys.

Tyson in his prime would beat any heavyweight of the past 25 years.

I personally feel like if Cus was still alive to keep Tyson in good spirits he would never lost. Watching him fight he is by far the greatest talent I’ve ever seen. Holyfield. Lennox. He would have beaten everybody if he was the same young Tyson. Would have all been knocked out.

In my opinion, when Mike was in his prime, he definitely would have beaten Hollyfield.

Growing up in his era there was no scarier fighter then mike Tyson. Pound for pound the goat! You couldn’t convince me otherwise! Even in his Nintendo game he scare the shit out of millions of kids! Tell me that any other fighter did that ? THEY DID NOT!

Honestly Tysons one of the only people that I know of besides the greatest that train twice as hard he knew that he had to train his body and his soul in mind he knew they had to be one before he could come out on top in a match

Mike is legend. Just confronted some random guy on the internet who compared him to Donnie Yen and IP Man himself, dummy was saying that they would win against him in street fight. xDD Crazy how few movies can mislead you, if you take it too seriously.

The more you delve into the history of boxing the more you'll realize a loss on your record does not determine weather your the best or not. It's about how you get back up off the canvas and win. Ali had the heart of a lion. Watch old classic boxing matches. The full fights not just the highlights. Listen to the comontaters and study the game. Its fascinating what you can learn. So many legendary fights.

That guy doesn't know his boxing history 🤣😂🤣🤣. Evander, Lennox and the others wanted nothing to do with a pre-prison Mike Tyson who had Kevin Rooney and others in his corner. The Tyson who lost to Douglas et.al was a very diminished and fallen man 🙏

In the realm of boxing, Sonny Liston is in a league of his own when it comes to instilling fear in the hearts of his opponents. Dubbed the most intimidating figure in the history of the sport, even Mike Tyson has remarked that compared to Liston, he felt like a mere Boy Scout. Liston's ability to intimidate was so extreme that, during the weigh-in for his bout against Muhammad Ali, Ali's heart rate surged to concerning levels, prompting the attending doctor to fear for his health. The belief that locking eyes with Liston was like letting him peer into your soul reflects the intense aura of intimidation he carried. His presence was so commanding that it's been said Liston could knock an opponent out with just a jab, illustrating the formidable power and psychological edge he wielded in and out of the ring.

Wow @ the upper cut. I’m sure the rage he carried in his life was unleashed upon his opponents. Hard to compete with that. At least back in the day. Skills n rage.
