Nice to see Vital Lacerda getting some love with a couple of games in the top 100 (seriously doubt that there will be any higher). The "heaviness" of his games is highly subjective IMO. I really struggle to see why people say The Gallerist is one of his lighter games because for me (and I've played them all) it was the game of his where the actions were most removed from the theme. Games like Kanban and Lisboa are generally rated as heavier but everything you're doing just makes sense which makes it far more intuitive. For this reason it's by some margin my least favourite of his games. Beautiful board though.

31:58 Agree with Zee. After getting into the hobby in 2019, starting light, and then playing a lot of heavy games (because I felt that’s what would make me a “real” gamer), I have begun to trend light/medium again. That’s just what I prefer - fairly quick games that are easy to teach and table.
@lohengrindrd6 күн бұрын
I have found other Lacerda games much easier than Gallerist which I feel to be the most difficult to grok. Lisboa actually plays very smoothly and in a much more linear fashion than the Gallerist.
@JonathonV5 күн бұрын
Not sure if we played it incorrectly, but Cinque Terre was so frustrating the one time I played it. The dice are rolled at the start of the game, and then you realise just how good or bad your cards are. Sure, you could get the resource on your card and get $1, or you could get $5 from the thing that randomly rolled high. Meanwhile, everyone else who needs that resource is sitting pretty and doesn’t have to worry about the negative points they’re going to sustain from their worthless contract not being fulfilled. All three of us agreed that we’d be content to never play it again. 😂 My other disagreement: Wayfarers and Scholars of the South Tigris all seem like very different games to me. Wayfarers has a bunch of little mini-games to pursue, whereas Scholars has a giant action loop that everyone is contributing towards. I’m convinced that this is the best series of board games ever made, but they really have very little in common (I suppose Inventors and Wayfarers would be the two that are the closest, but even they are quite different). The only common elements across all three games are that they reuse certain icons (mostly for different purposes) and involve dice placement and placing influence tokens on cards or in guilds. But overall, they’re quite different. And I’m surprised that everyone seems to think Scholars is more complex than Inventors, when Inventors is so much more of a point salad that you have to keep track of way more things. Anyway, glad to see Mike back! I always enjoy these lists!

I gotta disagree with Tom on Garphill game similarity. Their iconography and obviously they share the same world, but the gameplay on all of them is quite distinct. Dixit player count is confusing... Original Dixit 1st printing and Dixit Disney has voting mechanism for 6-player. Original Dixit latest printing is 8 players. Dixit: Odyssey (which includes that kid with the Troll you possibly mentioned who may or may not show a plumber's crack) goes to 12 players. Same game, just the box includes voting mechanism for different player counts. Not sure why not always give the 12 player option.
