Sonic Wave still holding out in the top half of the list is a testament to how far ahead of its time it actually was. When Cyclic updated the level from the light blue version to the infamous dark blue version, it was immediately hailed as the undisputed king of demons, and the player who legitimately verified the level first would be hailed as a legend forever. The only levels Sonic Wave had to contend with at the time it originally came out were Bloodbath and Sakupen Hell, both of which are no longer in the top 100. After Sunix verified the level in November of 2016, it stood on top of the mountain for another year. Artificial Ascent, Yatagarasu, Erebus, Digital Descent and Stalemate Redux all challenged the mighty Sonic Wave and were decisively defeated. The level that finally dethroned Sonic Wave for good was Plasma Pulse Finale, but Sonic Wave is still holding strong in the top 30.
