Seeing the photo of my Chiricahua ancestors brought me to tears. They were held as prisoners of war until 1912. My great-great-grandmother was taken and sold to a plantation in Alabama. After emancipation, she became a sharecropper and lived to be over 100 years old, give or take a couple of years.

In photo #58, you can spot people in the windows on the second floor of both houses on the right side. In one of the houses-either the left or right, though I believe it’s the left-you can see a young Teddy Roosevelt leaning out of the window. There’s another, clearer photo showing him and his cousin looking out. It’s incredible to see one President at the end of his life and another at the start of his journey. Both left such a lasting mark on our nation that they’re honored together on Mount Rushmore!

Two more identifications that you, or your editor got wrong. You showed two pictures of Jewish prisioners; they were not being moved away from the camps, they were being tansported to the camps. Note the manner of dress, all these clothes would have been confiscated on arrival at a camp, they would have been in prison uniforms once interned. The uniforms would have been very rags at the end of the war.
