The reason I mention the DVR is because I love still having a DVR to record things when I want to. Personally my set up is currently a TiVo with lifetime subscription of course so it cost $0 a month. Nvidia Shield, and roku. I run my Plex server off of my Nvidia shield with a couple of SSD drives connected for storage. Works fantastic. Over the air, roku, Android apps, it has it all. This has been a slowly evolving setup over the last few years but at this point I could not be happier with it. It can do anything. I had that app list handy from helping a friend out recently who wanted to cut the cord. Figured I would copy and paste it to you as well. Enjoy your cord cutting.

Do you have alexa ? If so ask Alexa for local news. Not sure if its in the Firestick app. If you have a Smart TV you should have it even without Firestick . I guess it also depends on which state you live in and what broadcasting they allow for free.

I just got the news Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max and yeah it has Alexa on it. Ok I will ask it for local news and see what it pulls up as far as the results. I have a smart Roku TV 55 inch as the size of the TV from Black Friday at Walmart about two weeks ago so should that Smart Roku TV have Alexa or the Firestick itself
