OG Zelda, Dragon Quest, Double Dribble, Arch Rivals, Track and Field (with the power pad), Tyson's Punch Out, Blaster Master (ofc). Wizardry, and Ultima.

I'm gonna say Ring King was my favorite. I know it's known as the "BJ between rounds game" but all jokes aside it's alot of fun: you have to level up to get stronger. You work hard to get those stats built up. As you get stronger so do your opponents both in the ring and in training. It's random which is pretty rare for NES, usually you learn a strat for a boss and you know which are easy and which are not here it's always a surprise. You have vs mode, tournament mode and a career mode. You have a password feature. I enjoyed that game alot as a kid and still do. I enjoy RPG and sports and this brought both things together

@@ProfessorRetro1976 also you can make him a beast you have stats of speed, stimina and strength and you can set those up anyway you like. You can throw all points into strength if you want. And if your not happy with that set up you can simply change it next match. Your stats go up to 99 which means you can make him into Mike Tyson if you wanted to and probably KO almost everyone with one punch

Zelda 2 is starting to get more love recently. I always loved it and I feel its reputation as the black sheep of the series is unwarranted.

The hate for that game is unwarranted. I personally like it more than the original Zelda. But then again, I played Zelda 2 first. So my opinion wasn't already pre-formed. It is objectively a great game, if one approaches it without bias. That is the only thing that hurt it, is the bias from people who played the original first and were mad it wasn't a continuation or clone of the first game. It's well designed, the gameplay is good, the platforming is great(not stiff like so many other games), and the RPG element is fun. Is it hard? Yes...but I don't think it's unfair, other than the cryptic secrets. Most of the difficult enemies aren't so difficult once you figure out how to attack them. I actually thought the original Zelda game was more difficult.

Metroido was the first game I owned besides the packed in SMB/DH. Great game and took me months to beat. I own almost all of these except for a few and never played Adventure Island 3. Great List!

One game i rarely ever see mentioned is The Guardian Legend. It's one of my favorite NES games. It's a hybrid shooter/ top-down adventure with RPG elements. Check it out.

Nitpick: Super Metroid was Metroid 3. It's in the title sequence. I still have my cartridge and can pull it up. : ) (Metroid 2 was on Game Boy)

Crystalis, Zen: Intergalactic Ninja, Nightshade, Battletoads&Double Dragon, Rocket Ranger, Shatterhand, and obviously either Contra game-- all of those are still very playable and stood the test of time comparatively well.

Rc pro am, double dragon and kirby, they are the only nes games I'm bothered about, I'm from the UK so we had a different game scene, zx spectrum, c64 etc

Zelda 2 is an outstanding game. The only people I know who don't like it are those who played the original first and were expecting a clone of the original and let their disappointment ruin it for them. If you approach it on its own without the bias from the first game, it's objectively good. It's designed well, has good graphics, the platforming is fair and not stiff, and the rpg element of leveling up is fun. The cryptic secrets might be annoying, but you can look that stuff up on the internet now(as a kid I had to figure it all out on my own).

Nice list, good to see the usual suspects like SMB 3, Castlevania, Kirby's Adventure, and Contra not here to highlight other great games. Bionic Commando is great. Here is a small list I recommend. 1. TMNT Manhattan Project 2. Batman 3. Tecmo Super Bowl 4. Super Mario Bros 2 5. Tecmo Wrestling One hidden gem I'd like to mention is Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. The UI is a bit tricky to get use to, but once you do it is a lot of fun.

@@ProfessorRetro1976 Yes the Wii got a good Adventure Island remake, a good Castlevania remake (rebirth?) Gradius, Contra and Excitebike too! My favorite Wiiware game is easily Swords and Soldiers though, so much fun on the real hardware!

So... *Hudson Soft* with _Adventure Island 3_ did what *Nintendo* and *Shigeru Miyamoto* could not with _Super Mario Bros series..._ as they said having Mario ride a dinosaur (Yoshi) was not technically possible on the NES.

As great as Nintendo was, when you look at the other games from other developers on the NES, those games often did things that Nintendo games didn't do. Riding a dinosaur or some other mount was just one example of this.

Battletoads was a difficult game after stage 3. I prefer Gradius to Life Force, and Mega Man 2 and 4 are better than 6. Just my thoughts.
