Hi all at Porphis, You thoroughly deserve you places in this top 12, my rankings are all from experience and having had my first Porphis guns nearly 2 1/2 years now they are proving reliable and good quality with exceptional performance. Performance is something you can evaluate very quickly. Reliability and durability take time, and enough time has now passed for me to give a valid opinion, which is very good. Keep up the good work, and I am looking forward to the new year. Cheers ✌️

I actually have a better clear finish out of the 627. Could just be me though. I just ordered the Meiji Finer core about 15 min ago, after watching this video... Been looking forward to this video for a while now. The longer the video went without mentioning the 717 the more excited I got. I've now got two 717s. One in 1.3 for base and one in 1.4 for clear, I've also got a 715 1.3 for larger jobs where speed helps, and a 155 with both 1.3 and 1.8 tips for sealer and primer. All of those I purchased based mainly on your videos. I'm having a great time learning to paint with them over the cheap guns I began with. Still the best painting channel here for me!

What up Mate! Real quick does the 717 1.4 in your opinion help in speed for clear. And also the 155 have you been using it for sealer and primer for a while now? Like what I’m asking is -is that something you do often, use primer in your sealer guns? And it’s doesn’t mess up your sealer guns or like does debris come out of out here and there… kinda mess with your sealer job? I’m just curious brother cuz I’ve never tried it and would like to know cuz if it doesn’t ?? 😮😮 SHIIIIIIIIIT !! Best BELIEVE so will I!!

Hi Pete, a very well made video with superb editing and presentation I can see you have put a lot of time and effort into making this Top 12 Spray Guns👌I was surprised at the start that the DV1 wasn't in there but when you added the ProLite it made total sense as the ProLite is very similar to the DV1 but it's better value for money due to the DV1 being over priced😬 Totally agree on your top five mate and I had the top three lined up the same as you as all three guns are superb with them all being well made and put out an amazing finish, I just knew the PRD717 would be number one before you even started👏👊cheers mate👍

As I've said a few times here, 2 years ago, it would have looked different, but the Porphis guns really do deserve their place regardless of price with the PC415, PRD715 ect all capable of easily getting into this top 12, but, I had to draw the line somewhere 😂 I know you have most of the guns in this top 12 , so it sounds like it is not just me that thinks this way. I hope you've had a good Christmas day Pete, the Porphis guns have certainly mixed it up a bit and as you say they deserve the top spot in this list, yeah I think I have most of the guns here apart from the Walcom and Sagola🤔 If the Porphis guns hadn't came along I recon the line up would have been similar to the last one you did at least in brand names if not the model numbers I was totally shocked to find a Porphis PC-415 as a pressie from Sonia, I had no idea I was getting that mate🤥😂 the finish on my gun is more of a matte green where yours has a satin look to it, once mine has been used and cleaned a few times it might look the same🤔🤷‍♂did you get any guns or painting related pressies mate🤔thanks Pete👍

Great video! My co-worker and I both spray Axalta with mainly Sata spray guns. I was in the market for a new spray gun and had the privilege of trying out both DV1 base and clear coat guns with c1 and c2 air caps as well as the Iwata WS400 series 1 and the LPH400. I was using my Sata 5000 RP for base and the red 5500 cc gun for clear but found it to be a bit slow and ended up picking up the Porphis 715 prd thanks to your reviews and I freaking love it. I'm currently using the Sata 5000 for base and using the Porphis 715 for clear with fantastic results. I'm definitely a believer. Considering adding the 717 version to my lineup as well. Sata fan turned to Porphis fan? Lol quite possibly.

Hi buddy, It's funny, as some people can't believe that a gun costing half the price, or less, of a Sata or a DV1 could possibly be better!. Truth is, the Porphis guns do perform better and are of equal quality when it comes to build quality. I put the Porphis PRD717 at number one. It could just as easily been the PRD715, but I didn't think it was right to fill all the top guns with Porphis guns. The PRD717 is slower than the PRD717, so you may not like it as much. It makes a very good base gun for more complex colours, to be honest, for the price, it's certainly worth a try, cheers mate 👍

Hi Lesli, Good to hear you enjoyed it. In my mind, I know the PRD717 would win. It was just a way of scoring it that was fair, so I gave performance the bulk of the marks. There are no bad sprayguns in this top 12, so the edge one has over another is only small. When that happens, other factors kick in and help to give you an order of ranking, PRD717, or the 715 for that matter are excellent at what they do, have proven reliable and are built well, cheers mate

I know I laid my DV1-C down once I got the PRD-715. DV1-C is great but simply not fast enough. Even though DV1-B base coat gun is tuff to beat for base coat. ANI 200 skull is another great one. I really prefer the 1.2mm cap for clear though just like i prefer the 1.2mm nozzle im DV1-C as I spray a lot of 50% to 58% high solids clear coats and 1.2mm breaks it up better to atomize finer for a better finish.

Hi buddy, The DC1 C1 is slow. The C2 cap helps, but some say at the expense of finish. The PRD715 is a very good gun, it could easily make it into this top 12 but, as you will understand, I didn't want to saturate the top 12 with one manufacturers products. The 1.2 is often a way to atomise finer, it's works on the Tekna Gti Pro Lite as well, I recently experimented with 1.1 in the DV1 and the Pro Lite with very good effect, I made a video in fact, not out yet but will be , Cheers buddy, thanks for watching 👍

Good day Mr Pete, Really enjoying your review videos , you are doing fantastic job with those. Got a question to ask you. I have a mobile bumper / light bodywork repair unit. Using dv1 s mini/ midi spray guns for the paint and clear . Mainly upol panel repair clear. No other brand that I have tried can come even close to devilbiss minigun. I am using kiwami 4 for my sealer and primer applications. Also an amazing gun . I am looking to purchase full size clear coat gun for bigger panels such as doors , quater panels and even hoods. So far I have tried sata 5500 - too much air and material consumption, Devilbiss pro lite - great but still using plastic parts and also high air consumption. Iwata ws400 series 2 - somehow despite of all the hype - i dislike this gun the most . I can not dial this one in at all . I truly can do better clear coat application with the $275 kiwami4 than with this 800 dollar gun. I do only have 1.6 hp , 5.1 scfm @ 90psi compressor with 50 gallons tank. What would you recommend for me to get in search of a clear coat only gun that would produce as glossy and as flat finish possible. Greatly appreciate your input sir 👍👍 Keep spraying 😎

@peteshobbies5383 Thank you. Quick question: When spraying metallics is a 1.3mm fluid tip, the way to go or what size would you recommend when spraying. Is it better to spray with a split tip nozzle like the Iwata LS/WS400 Series 2, or would any gun be suitable. Im trying to prevent drying and modeling. Thank you again. Have a blessed holiday. 🍻

@danielcarcamo6336 Hi Daniel, if it's getting a little dry in the application, then a none split tip gun may be the way to go, so something like a DV1 Base gun, or a Pro Lite TE10, an Iwata W400, tip size of 1.3 should be ok, I think it will be the split tip that's causing you problems, so gun without may help
@danielcarcamo6336

@peteshobbies5383 Thank you very much again. I thought the split tip nozzle was better on metallics, been that it's more efficient when it automizes out the gun vs. a regular tip nozzle. I was thinking I needed a bigger tip nozzle like a 1.4, 1.5mm. Very interesting. Thank you for the advice. I will do that.

Hi Mate, you can but you need to be careful what cap you use it with, the BA4J cap will not take any of the split tips, so the Wider4L tip will fit a Kiwami4 WBX or WB, not the BA4J, the hole in the centre of the BA4J is too small for the thicker tips used in the WB, WBX and Wider4L

There are definitely a couple of surprises in there ... like the walcom 360 (a gun I've always wanted , but could never justify a reason to buy with the guns I already have . Looks like I would've been disappointed if I had purchased one ) . The upside is , I'm happy with my 4600xtreme , I think it sprays better than my ws400 (early series 1) . I've been keeping an eye on the porphis guns , honestly I didn't expect them to make the places they did considering the calibre of guns they were against , perhaps it's tine for me to re visit the sata style 'side fan' adjustment guns with a 717 🤔 . Hi Andrew, Yes, sorry it has been so long, I have been meaning to do this for a few years as the mini gun one was very well received. To be honest, if I had done this 2 years ago when I had planned, it would have looked different, but the Porphis guns really have got there on merit, I wanted to see if I had problems with them as far as longevity goes before I could say for sure. I've had no problems with any of them, including lending them out to 3 separate individuals to test, so I am happy saying they are reliable. As far as performance goes, they absolutely deserve to be where they are in this list. If they were twice the price, they would still keep their position. They really are very good. Cheers mate, thanks for the support, Have a good, safe Christmas, cheers 🍻

@peteshobbies5383 Ай бұрын
Hi Mate, Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you, I think I went into it a little in the video but the main reason for the 717 over the 627 is it ability to spray at lower pressures. The 627 isn't as flexible. It likes around 1.8 to 2 bar for clearcoats. The 717 can go to 1.1 or 1.2 bar if you want and up to 2 bar depending on the clear coats used. They are both excellent. If you want a slightly smaller lighter 717 to use at around 2 bar, it's the one to go for

Wow, I never expected that the PRD717 would be rated at #1. That was a very enlightening video Pete. I just received my 717 a couple days ago, but the weather here has been really bad. I tried to spray outside, but it didn't come out well. That is 100% user problem not the gun. I think I am better off just building high performance motorcycles and leave the painting to the pro's. If I make it to next summer, I may try again. The Rustoleum paint is not the correct paint to use other than for anything but farm equipment. I am going to try and find some automotive paint that can be used without the need for all the crazy mixing of Japan Dry, Acetone, hardener and all the rest of the guessing for this Rustoleum. Everybody has a different mixing formula for this paint, but I'm done with it. Thanks for all the great videos you produce and I'll still be watching your channel!

Hello! I'm an official porphis op, but I don't think I have as much expertise as PETE, and I've learned a lot in his videos. Anyway, if you have product concerns, please contact me directly! Awesome video! Do you think the Porphis 717 would be good for things like single stage, primer, epoxy, sealer, etc....and lay them flat to help minimize sanding? Maybe just change the tip or something? I'm not sure what's the best for me between 717 vs 715 and 1.3 and 1.4 I don't care about speed, just capable of spraying a wide range of material and spraying flat.....I'm trying to do a diy show car paint job. I'll need to also paint tight areas in an engine bay where I'll probably need to bring the fan in kind of small and build the paint on a little at a time to get into some odd tight areas.
@peteshobbies5383
@peteshobbies5383 Ай бұрын
Hi Stephen, Well, you would want a 1.4 in the Porphis PRD717, I think it should handle it OK but I have not tried it. The Porphis PRD715 would handle it ok. It's a conventional tip, so flows more, which is more important with the materials you mentioned. Again, I would lean towards the 1.4. If you wind the fan in, just remember to wind the fluid in and keep a check on air pressure as it can go up when the fan is turned in, then you will be able to access you tight spots without too much trouble. The gun body is the same, so a tip set converts the Porphis PRD715 in a 717 and the other way round, they both give excellent finishes so you won't be disappointed. I hope that helps 👍

@peteshobbies5383 So I'd probably want to get the 715 for spraying epoxy and primer and such? Is that the material you're not sure about for a 717? @peteshobbies5383
@peteshobbies5383 Ай бұрын
@stephenwhite5444 Yes, that's exactly it. Normally, those products are thicker and like to be applied heavier. The 715 is better at that. I would have the PRD717 over the LPH400 any day, or, if you still fancy an Iwata, get the Wider4L from Japan. If the LPH400 is in really good condition, then with too caps, it may be worth it , but if it's an older gun, they do get their problems then

@peteshobbies5383 Ай бұрын
Hi Walter, we agreed on many things, but on this, we will have to differ. The PRD717 and PRD715 aren't really Sata copy's, yes they owe some styling to them but nothing else is much like them, the body has many changes, for example they don't have the fluid adjustment screwing directly into the body, there's also a click mechanism on the adjustment. The tip arrangement is more like a Iwata and Avalon and indeed a Walcom, with the V or U groove designs, so, there comes a time when you just have to conseed, it's a gun on its own merits. The icing on the cake, is its performance, it's much much more refined than a 5000 and produces much better results. I love my Sata 5000, but it's no Porphis PRD717. Happy Christmas to you and your family, Walter, and a safe and happy new year to you buddy, cheers 🍻
