Finally some appreciation for the first album! My fav of theirs.

That one is my favorite too. It has some of their slowest riffs ever, which i love.

@@DoomTones Its also just such an abrasive sounding album.. wish theyd play more songs from it live.

Damn, that's just the Acapulco Gold into an IR? Killer tone!
@DoomTones2 жыл бұрын
yeah, guitar, acapulco and ir. Thats it. Barely any EQ, just low and high pass. Its like the pedal is already dialed in perfectly.

Great list of some of their best riffs. Hearing this i almost wish Bower's guitars had more low end like this in more recordings because it sounds even heavier than usual, and combined with Jimmy's groove would somehow be even harder. Great video.

Southern Discomfort riff forever, I can't believe it originally didn't make the cut for Take As Needed For Pain.

Amazing!! Got to admit though that my favourite is "Serving Time in the Middle of Nowhere" but I'm not going to argue with your choices. "Southern Discomfort" my favourite here!!!

Cool channel. I like your tone. Playing ehg seems so simple on the surface but it also involves a certain swing and groove which comes from environment, mindset, and maybe some weed and whiskey. It's hard to explain. Your notes are pretty much correct but some of that syrupy swing is missing. As well as some false harmonics. Typically their riffs will start of with single notes for a couple bars then chords are used to bring home. I remember having a conversation with Dixie and shep from weed eater years back about the new drummer. They didn't hear him yet and they asked me how he did. I said the same thing that he has the notes but just needs time to get that swing. Not being anal so don't trip. Just discussing the idiosyncrasies of their music. Obviously your a good player and I dig your videos. Cheers.

Hey man, i appreciate your comment. I agree with you completely, some of these tracks need more swing, and i kind of played some of them mechanically. Gonna keep this in mind if i make more NOLA sludge stuff. I need to add more swing to the drums. Thanks!

So you're telling me I don't need to mic a cab at blistering volume levels to get "the" sludge and doom tone at home. Just pedals of my liking a lap top and IRs???? No more passed off wife angry neighbors and cops!?

yep, guitar + pedal + impulse response = no cops

@@DoomTones 🤣🤣🤣 I like those maths. Is a preamp style pedal necessary for this application or can I just throw my favorite fuzz and distortion in front of an interface and rock away?
@DoomTones2 жыл бұрын
@@wookierock7860 i dont have a dedicated preamp pedal so i wouldnt know. Fuzz straight into audio interface has worked for me in the past, and it sounds surprisingly good. A good IR (i use Ownhammer) and some EQ is obviously neccesary.
