8:45 I'm playing HAAK right now and the game is pretty cool and worth it, but after hearing there's more like it that are even harder, sorry but I don't want to throw my phone to the wall again. Great rankings.

Feel like one the biggest influences Hollow Knight had on the genre was its art style. See many games here that look similar and even some that are coming soon.

The biggest miss on this list is Afterimage. Afterimage is not only fantastic, but it's the game that feels the most like Hollow Knight to me...while also not being a clone in any way. Different art style. Different camera view. Different world design. But the movement feels similar. The size and scope expands on Hallownest. The storytelling and worldbuilding is equally cryptic until you've had a chance to put it all together. What you said about Aeterna Noctis being the closest to HK while being it's own thing? I have yet to play AN, but Afterimage is that game for me.

New entry in the Ender Lillies franchise just dropped to rave reviews, the Bloom game you mentioned. This title didn’t click for me but I know a lot of fans waiting for it

That Black Skylands game features in your advertisement is also on sale on Xbox for $5 right now. Has fantastic reviews and apparently 20 hours or content or so and tons of ships, weapons, gear. Supposed to be very good. Just fyi

I wish many of the PC exclusive games also had console releases. If I ever get a gaming PC it won't be for ray tracing at 120 FPS and online multiplayer, it'll be so I can play a bunch of PC-only metroidvanias and strategy/tactics games! 😂 Nice choice of games though, and thanks for bringing Unbound to my attention. 👍

Islets is fantastic. Such a simple game but never dull. Just shows you what good game designer can do with limited resources- in this case the one-man band Kyle Thompson. Do yourself a favor and check out his first game, Sheepo, as well as his new one, Crypt Custodian. Great stuff in every title. You’re thank me later.

Some say Blasphemous isn't technically a metroidvania because it doesn't have ability gating on the critical path. That said, in my opinion it's a fantastic metroidvania.
