Mexico surprised me. I didn't think that in the 60s and 70s so many cars were produced there

​​​​@@SonyXperias-b4hIt was one among several brands manufacturing in Mexico then. American and French brands were also manufacturing in Mexico in the 60s, 70s, and 80s, alongside German ones. French car brands eventually exited, since not many French car brands sell globally. But more American, German, Italian, and eventually also Japanese, and South Korean brands established manufacturing facilities in Mexico especially after NAFTA. Other German car brands have entered or reentered in recent years and now BMW, Audi, Mercedes, etc. also manufacture in Mexico. Audi announced recently plant expansions for building EVs in Mexico. And China has also already semi committed to do the same, namely BYD. Mexico has had its own brands too though not well known abroad. It had a big brand in the 80s. In the last 2 decades buses were also engineered, designed, and built in Mexico. Today Mexico has one ICE brand, mostly compact cars--Zacua. Built to order though. And with the new Sheinbaum administration they also want to mass produce a compact Mexican EV brand named Olinea. They already have working models, they just need to scale up production.

India will be leading in 2026 in car production because of requirements and other usage. Already it needs more trucks than anywhere else. That's why 16 and 18 lanes national Hwy is on the raise. 2% electric Hwy is currently in use.
