For everyone confused about the whole countries not existing thing: It simply shows the people that lived in those modern-day borders, disregarding their existence. Hope this helped Edit: it might also be because there isn’t enough data from specific countries, like the Mughals and whatnot, whereas the soviets have plenty of data

Germany and France were equal in 1850, but Germany had nearly doubled France leading up to WWI. I'm sure that's partly due to unification, but also a huge disparity in industrialization and population growth.

Yes, indeed. The difference between Germany's population growth and France's population growth was due partly to "a huge disparity [ . . . ] in population growth." Did you mean something more like birth rates, death rates, infant mortality rates, emigration and immigration rates?
@felixblanchard7349

Yeah because France ended its demographics transition first in Europe. While it was the most populated until Napoléon, the growth rate started to decline after. Leading to a transfer of power in Europe from France to Germany.

Thats why France wanted a second war with Germany after 1871 as soon as possible. Germany outgrew France by such a huge amount, they feared facing 80 million germans vs 40 million french in a war. And it had nothing to do with unification! The french ppl just didnt make kids whereas the germans did.
@worndown8280

The difference was between a religious people in German who bred and a secular society which stagnated, France. If industrialization was the factor, the whole urbanization effect would have seen birth rates plummet. And this chart doesnt take into account that roughly 2/3rds of Germans left Germany between 1800 and 1900 to the new world, Hungary and the Ukraine. Texas, Mexico, and Argentina were all massive receivers of Germany immigrants.
@LiquidIEx

Population is power if maintained properly. In the projected population you can see India going backward in numbers around 2080, that means a large chunk of old people will pass away who are in their 20-40s right now. But for the whole worlds population to sustain, 7 billion is less number compared to total land mass. So I hope humanity comes together to start space travel for masses.

I am a foreigner living in China. In recent years, population is becoming a problem in China. In 2020 and 21, the country saw the lowest birth rate per a year. They are afraid to not having enough young population to support elderly in the future. Although one child policy is lifted, and now can have up to 3, people still either prefer to be single or just having one child.

@@kairon5249 That Should give all the more reasons to show the population of the French empire in 1810. France already existed as a republic since 1792. In 1810, most of modern Italian territories were part of France, not even considered as vassal territories. Same thing with the German Reich. Why not incorporate the population of the annexed countries in 1944? They weren't existing as separate entities anymore. I think the animation would have been more fun and informative if those historical events had been visible, like it is with the soviet union. Germany should have become the 3rd Reich, grow it's population like crazy and abruptly disappear when losing all annexed territories and being separated in East-Germany and West-Germany and then coming back up in 1990 when reunified as Germany. Again, why do it with USSR and not the other countries?

Before the American Revolution, when tension between Britain and the Thirteen Colonies was growing, Benjamin Franklin argued to the British, even in testimony before Parliament, that it was foolish to ignore the colonists' desire for fair representation in government, because it wouldn't be long before the population of the Colonies surpassed that of the British Isles. The British monarch and Parliament ignored the warning; lost the Colonies; and in less than two hundred years saw their nation surpassed in military, economic, intellectual, and soft power by the United States. Population isn't the whole picture, but it's a part that mustn't be ignored.

It will. At the end of this century. Ever noticed how all projected population charts end at the year 2100? It's because that is when the population will start to drop as the quality of life in the rapidly industrialising developing world will mean the birth rates drop and families will go from having 7 kids to probably 1 or 2. This is what happens when the quality of life is higher. Was the same thing that happened in Europe in the past and the same will eventually happen in Asia and Africa. Trouble is the profits of doom can't exploit that fact. The Earth's population will eventually reduce and remain stable at between 1.5 to 2 billion.
