It happened between Athenes and Sparte, Rome and Catharge, France and England, England and Germany, Russia and the US, now the US and China. The rising power against the declining power for world hegemony. It's continental power against sea power for world hegemony. Smart imperialism is still imperialism, England did it way before the U-S. And I don't whine nor do I wish your destruction, I can only see the damages such imperial power has done to an old decaying Europe who will disappear shortly, the rest of the world blames you but I don't care about the rest of the world, I only care about Europe. So middle-east can blame you all they want, I don't care about them. You're a nationalist it seems, that's good. We lack that in Europe, U-S softpower dominates us, making us unable to recenter around our own nationality and culture, sad but true. US model, raw and financial power, great combination of hard and soft power made it like so. Can't blame others for being weak, but I can at least the consequences and the main source that traps us weak can't I?

@@abdiganiaden In fact, the plaza accord was not the reason Japan collapsed. The US-Japan semiconductor agreement is the real reason. At that time, the yield of semiconductors in the US was only 50%, but in Japan it was 80%. The United States began to impose sanctions on Japanese semiconductors when it was unable to catch up with Japan. The sanctions lasted more than 10 years, and the United States sanctioned not only Japanese semiconductors but also other manufacturing industries at the same time. As a result, the Japanese manufacturing industry collapsed and the economy collapsed. The Plaza Accord is a superficial excuse. But because Japan is militarily dependent on the US and has created export economic growth through the US market, Japan has little to say. Some Japanese resent the United States, but others accept it as inevitable.

Fascinating how rapidly USSR developed after Civil War and WW2
@travistouchdown9 Жыл бұрын
The world record for economic growth belongs to the USSR. From semi-feudalism to a world power (along with the USA) in a matter of decades. And this despite the foreign intervention in the USSR in 1918 - 1922, as well as the war with Nazi Germany on the territory of the USSR.

After World War II, Japan entrusted its security to the United States and focused on economic development. The labor hours in Japan were longer compared to other countries, and many companies emphasized labor-management cooperation, which contributed to the growth of GDP. However, present-day Japan is facing challenges due to its aging population, strict regulations on working hours, and a shortage of labor. With a tendency towards stability, Japan has become less adept at innovation.

Germany went from ~80% of UK’s GDP to almost twice its GDP and even surged to have 50% of the US between 1932 and 1939. Easily the best performing developed economy during the Great Depression. I guess that goes a long way in explaining why so many people supported the nsdap.

@@niklasvilhelm7247 At the time, the US managed to avoid a lot of the turmoil in Europe and Asia. While there were "wars", none of them were really noteworthy nor did they have any meaningful impact on the standard of living in the US. Even when the world went to shit so to speak, the US had time to get a full on war economy before actually going to war (hence the joke in Chicken Run of the yanks showing up late to every war). Even when that was the case, being on the other side of the world led to some substantial advantages - it turns out that it's easier to make tanks and planes when the enemy has little to no chance of blowing up your stuff or successfully invading. Sure, there was Pearl Harbor which people make a big deal of, and some stuff went down on the Aleutian Islands, but compared to what was going on in Europe and Asia, it's almost not even worth mentioning. Even when it happened and the US got actively into WWII, they had already been "getting ready" so to speak with all the lend-lease stuff.
