Most of the time, a country’s GDP reflects how powerful a country is. This video will take you through a historical journey where you will witness the rise and fall of different empires and economies while passing through key historical events, such as the Great Depression, WW1, WW2, Cold War, and many other events that shaped our world today.

Be sure to subscribe, like, and comment! *Please note, the GDP data of the Soviet Union from 1929-1945 is overstated in this video; the more correct GDP figure is closer to $23 billion in 1938. My apologies. will likely redo this video with the correct data soon!

@@PolishBehemoth economy is not that simple. I honestly don't believe that "work ethic" stuff. You're quoting Max Weber, right? A 19th century theory, full of biases. What I believe is that economic conditions come before anything else, like education, technology, even culture. When economic conditions are favourable, everything else changes for the better, and even people's values change (attitudes like "time is money/punctuality/materialism/religiosity"). Look at the rise and fall of Venice or Spain. Look at India and China before and after planned economy. Look at Arabian states before and after oil. Look at Japan before and after exposure to the West and the Meiji Revolution. Coming back to this video: Are you aware of the theory of the flying geese paradigm and the Asian tiger economies? There are many countries that had an astronomic economic growth, until they reached the approximate GDP per Capita of Western countries. After that they all slowed down, just like Japan

The momentum of the Japanese economy from the end of World War II to around 1990 was tremendous. It was said that Japan as number one, and the United States was seriously afraid of Japan. Such as the Japan-US Semiconductor Agreement and Super 301. It's still the world's third-largest power, but it doesn't have the momentum it once did.
