This is actually the first time I've heard of her referred to as "Huttslayer." Eh. She'll always be 'slave' Leia to me. And while there is obviously a sexual element to her in the gold bikini(and that's probably why she's so popular,at least with men and boys),she is a lot more than that. She is still a bad ass hero.

I doubt it. Not in these crazy days. I think the outfit and the fact she is known as Slave Leia means Disney is probably done with that figure in the current climate. I think she'll get a Endor fig and that'll be it. I've just added a Black Series 6" SL for this very reason. I think that'll be one of the last times we see her in an official fig. Sad.

The only Huttslayer things I have are the newest Lego minifigure, the Power of the Force 2.0 figure, & the Galactic Heroes figure (along with the R2 with tray). I feel the same way about you on the subject of Leia in this outfit; I can see why the backlash happened, but it’s also one of the times that Leia truly shows her strength & will in the OT. I’ve heard that Disney never truly “pulled the plug” on making merch of this figure, that it was a rumor started by a website with no actual quotes from Disney themselves. I hope they continue to make more in the future as the stuff is hard to come by these days. I can only hope to get some of the amazing things you have here for my own Leia/Carrie collection.

I recently saw a Junkman video where he discussed the name. He looked at the costume log from the ROTJ filming and this costume is listed as 'Leia Dancing Girl'. The term 'dancing girl' probably opens up a whole new debate but I would have thought Hasbro etc would just call her 'Princess Leia Dancer'. Huttslayer is a bit naff/lame.

I ended up kit-bashing a 3.75"-scale Prisoner Leia out of a Sail Barge Cannon one (skirt pieces and collar) and a TLC/TVC one. Looks pretty dang good. I'm thinking of doing a "real hair" braid for it at some point, just so I can get her head to look to the right, for once. 😉

Luke's not there to save Leia. What's wrong with people? He's there to help rescue Han. Also "Huttslayer" is stupid. Not just because it's clunky, but as you state in the video, there's only one item out of all the merch of this costume where she's depicted slaying a Hutt. That moment, while pivotal constitutes about 2% of her screentime in this costume. "Slave girl" is the role she's filling until the plan (and ultimately Jabba himself) can be executed. If the term "slave" is seriously that big of an issue, then this version of her should simply be called "Captive Leia".

The name Huttslayer comes from one of the new canon-novels and it first mentioned to her by a Nikto crime-lord, because he and his people hate the Hutts and they revere her for her killing of one, with bare hands nonetheless. That's why it's called Huttslayer and not Slave Girl or Plan-A-Leia. This is an in-universe name that has nothing to do with the screentime of the activity it describes.

Actually if you go back to what are now called the "Legends" Leia did kill another Hutt in one of the Star Wars novels: namely, Beldorion the Hutt -- the only Hutt who had been trained as a Jedi. I would really like to see a figure of him! :D

To be fair, as far as I know Disney has not taken a public position on the matter (aside from revising some product names to get rid of the "Slave Leia" monicker). My opinion has always been that the people who were saying that Disney was "banning" the character in 2015 were jumping the gun. And the fact that you can still buy at least one piece of merchandise for the character on the Disney online store 5 years later seems to bear this out. So we'll see what happens.

It convinced me to pickup the pewter statue which was the last Slave Leia figure to be released before the 2015 unofficial ban: a Marvel artist reported that they were no longer permitted to draw Leia in the outfit and that a brand new statue he was helping to develop (his concept sketches for her looked AMAZING) had been cancelled by Disney. I wish I shared your optimism and wanted to believe the ban was just a rumor, but this is the longest period of time without a new release since the very first one in the late 90's. Sad times for Slave Leia fans.

The pewter figure is a nice piece, regardless of whether or not it turns out to be the last piece of merchandise for the character. The sculpt, pose, and pewter finish on its contrasting smooth and detailed surfaces give it a refined artistic feel, like a scaled version of a piece you'd see in a museum. One minor issue is that the sculptor used the wrong design for her rear plate, a common error on most Slave Leia figures. To think that I would have overlooked this work of art had it not been for your video review and the rotating display you used... Thanks again! And you weren't kidding about her heft. A pewter Jabba would weigh SOOO much. Whereas she's now out of stock on the online Disney UK store, they completely 404'd her listing from the US store I bought her from. I imagine this conversation after I placed my order: "Sir, someone ordered a... umm... Slave Leia statue from our store." "WHAT?!?! I thought we deleted all those!" "Well, we deleted all items tagged as Slave Leia, yes, but that was after we changed her name, so this one didn't show up in the search." :)

i'm a firm leia in jabba's palace fan, but at the same time.... children are PRECISELY the audience for open sexuality and experimenting with things outside of the gender norms. so, so, SO much of the pain and suffering FORCED upon youths today is 100% the product of lack of representation and a lack of characters to normalize with. as early as 10-12 years old, sometimes even a little younger in extreme cases, kids WILL start going through puberty, they WILL start maturing past childhood and into adulthood. and one of the scientifically studied and proven things that objectively harm a child, is not having role models to identify with. disney does a lot wrong these days in my opinion. they also are trying to make some progress, not nearly enough, but still, we're at the point where something, is better than nothing, even if they fumble as often as they excel, they're trying and that's better than some other media companies. so anyways, within the context of the time and intended audience of the original trilogy, the costume doesn't seem bad, nor is it bad if looked at with an informed mind. the problem though, is that a lot of modern star wars is aimed at kids, and we really don't need the SOLE representative of women in the main cast marketed in that outfit and in that situation. so i get where disney is coming from with their skittishness about the costume. do i like it? no. but i get it. so as much as it hits all the pulp sci-fi heartstrings of mine, if not openly promoting merch of this tiny part of a much larger franchise gives even a single little girl a boost in confidence or a better sense of self worth... i'm all in.

Oh you mean LEIA? She was not called LAYER in the original new hope film. Why Lucas changed her name to LAYER, I never know. She is called LEIA in the new hope film in 1977 so that is what I call her.. after all Luke is still called Luke in the other films as with LEIA his name is like hers still spelled the same way as the original film. I think George Lucas was starting to go nuts when the empire strikes back was being made and for some odd reason call her LAYER..? Maybe he was going nuts really as he went and sold off the Lucas Arts rights to crap Disney for a faction of the real cost of the franchise. that $6 billion he got for it he gave away to a charity. And then Disney allowed that fool J.J.Abrams to ruin the franchise as he just did with Star Trek franchise. I have a limited collectible Slave LEIA which it seems you don't have here?
