Since you were talking about dystopia, imagine this: A toxic plague has been found in the world's water supply, forcing the globe into a catastrophic apocalypse in a matter of days. You stagger through forgotten streets, shreds of clothing on telephone poles as well as boards of wood shielding windows, keeping whoever inside mildly safe for the time being. You wander around a bit farther before you a hear familiar melody. You slowly turn your head only to find that to the left of you is the amusement park from your childhood. A xylophone creepily playing the park's theme tune. You explore the abandoned site with a heavy heart, memories washing over you in tidal waves, uncontrollable tears escaping your eyes and cascading down your cheeks. The attraction's sign looming above, reading the place you once shared happiness with friends and family. The sky capturing the overall mood with an eerie overcast as your mind soon travels back to the odd xylophone that first caught your attention with its plinking notes. You soon realize that not only were you not alone but you know you won't last much longer in this dystopia.

Santa Cruz beach and boardwalk was really crazy at night. I grew up in the 60s in the Bay area, and Santa Cruz was the perfect setting for the classic, "The Lost Boys" movie. It was very scary at night, but at the same time, exciting. Tons of runaways lived on the beach...

Every summer our family would travel from San Jose up Hiway 17 to go to Santa Cruz and spend a weekend there I thought is was really neat. I have such fond memories of the lost mine ride that had a pond in front and every hour a dinosaur would slowly rise up out of the water then turn his head left to right and roar really loud then he would go back down under water I loved that!!!!

As someone from England, it’s so intriguing to get an American take - particularly on Number 11, Dunblobbin. The name Crinkley Bottom was the name given to the fictional village where the BBC One show Noel’s House Party was based which aired between 1991 to 1999. The “giant spotty pink creature” Mr Blobby was brought in as part of the “Gotcha” pranks on celebrities before being brought into the show more frequently. Blobby at one point became more popular than than host himself, before becoming loathed and was axed for the final series in 1999.

Fantastic video. I'm from the UK and had no idea about the Crinkly Bottom themed park (though I well remember the BBC's Noel's House Party on which it was themed). I also remember Camelot closing being reported in the news - I think you'll find most of the structures shown in this video have now been removed though recent aerial photography show that the ground structure of the park is still there (I gather it's been sold for development into new housing). The nearest abandoned location like this to where I live is a zoo called Penscynor Wildlife park. Any child of the '70s-'90s will remember this place as it was the choice destination for school trips and a significant number of cars in the area had a sticker bearing the park's logo on them because you got free parking with the sticker on a re-visit. Anyway - I digress - this was sold for housing in the late '90s when it suddenly closed and much of the land now has a housing estate called Penscynor Park on it. Most people don't realise that the back end of the original wildlife park including the now, decidedly derelict monkey houses, remains of the Alpine Slide (a bob-sleigh type ride) and even the large seal lake (now breeched) and waterfall are still there to this day - if you know how to get in...

For those who are wondering what the park is on the thumbnail is, it's Kings Island. Kings Island is an amusement park originally ran by paramount parks (Yes, that paramount) and now run by cedar fair, a group who runs a chain of parks including Cedar Point, Valley Fair, and Michigan's Adventure. The coaster shown on the thumbnail is Son of Beast, an infamous coaster opened as the first wooden coaster over 200 ft. tall. I can't explain all of these, cause it would take forever, so here's some video links: Defunctland's explanation on why it was infamous: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h2mxfnavq8aco7s POV of the ride: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gJjKdmN8jruSj9U

When I was little there was an abandoned amusement park near where I lived; the humps of the wooden roller coaster were just visible above the treeline. I was only little and, when it came into view, I'd stare at it until it was out of view again. I was equal parts terrified and fascinated. The park was torn down a few years later; not much remains out there, just a stairway in the woods leading from nowhere to nowhere. I have no doubt at all that if I lived near any of these parks I wouldn't be able to help myself. I'd have to explore.

The theme park 'Australia's wonderland' was like these parks that were left abandoned in Sydney. I was lucky enough to have been there back in 1993. It closed down sometime around 9/11 back in 2001

The thumbnail is a roller coaster that was demolished in 2013 maybe 2012. Also that roller coaster was in Kings Island which is STILL OPEN the coaster in the thumbnail is a ride called Son of Beast. Built in 1999 opened in May of 2000. Closed in 2009 after an incredible amount of issues resulting in it being closed more than open from 2005 to 2009. Also had a delayed opening and was closed 1/2 the first year.

Santa's Village in Santa Cruz California was abandoned as well. right off the freeway on your way to the beach, you see the old place there. crazy to see a winter wonderland on your way to the beach on a hot summer day.

I drove past 'Camelot' back in early 2003. I did not know that there was even a theme park there. I had never heard of it. Unlike the 80's, heavily advertised, TV commercial for 'American Adventure Park, Derby, UK'. This theme park also got demolished but stood as a Ghost Town for a while. Very sad to see. I think that the echoes of the past excitement fun and screams, will be forever heard.

When investors build theme parks and try comparing them to Disney, they forget two things: Disney is connected by the customers to both the movies and television. Disney's genius was that he used the Disneyland TV Show (later called "The Wonderful World of Disney" and "Disney's Wonderful World") to promote his Disneyland theme park. These investors don't have a big hit TV series and a movie company to promote their parks. Walt Disney gave the theme park the same name as the TV Series (both were called Disneyland in the 1950s). Viewers of the hit series connected the name to the theme park. Poof! Walt Disney had the power of television to advertise his theme park during his hit show.

nara dreamland wasnt just a ripoff of disneyland. it was literally supposed to be japan's own disneyland. the owner was in talks with walt disney to use the characters and icons of disney inc, but they couldnt come to an agreement on the licensing prices. but it was already nearly complete so the owner decided to open nara dreamland but with no disney licensing so they had to come up with their own characters.

A really very interesting video. :D However, it is not entirely true that Yongma Land is the only former amusement park in the world that's still open to guests. In this country, for example, we also have a closed amusement park that you can still enter for a small fee (sometimes even with real guided tours), e.g. to take photos and so one. ;)

OK so the thumbnail is clickbait. The “ abandoned amusement park” is kings island and it is not abandoned far from it it is one of the most popular amusement park in the world and of what you see and that is a “abandoned roller coaster” that you see was the son of beast was a ride that opened in 2000 it was extremely popular but it had multiple flaws. screws wold go loose and the ride was very rough and even one person got a concussion just from riding the ride and the support beams were very loose and easily fell over. And after several people had head injuries and had to go to the hospital in 2009 it close down for good even though it closed in 2009 it wouldn’t be demolished for several more years And what you see in the thumbnail that is it being demolished. And the park is still open today and like I said at the start it is one of the most popular theme parks in the world So don’t try to clickbait people who know to much about amusement parks.

@@thebricker7453 but it DIDN’T work on the guy you replied to. When clickbait works, people usually don’t notice the flaw in the thumbnail or underhanded tricks used by scumbag KZbinrs. In this case, a knowledgeable coaster enthusiast who has likely ridden hundreds of them was correcting misinformation so others didn’t think the coaster in the picture was from an actual shutdown park. However, it did work on me. Ironically, I even rode Son of Beast in the early 2000s and I still didn’t recognize it, but simply clicked on it because I like watching misinformed KZbin videos and laugh at how they can get a bunch of brainless dopamine zombies to be amazed at garbage

You can enter the Spreepark in a guided tour, entering on your own is illegal and there may be guards. There is also an abandoned park in south Germany, the "Fränkisches Wunderland". Urbexers can enter the park on their own risk for 50€, there are surveillance cameras and they call the police when someone enters illegally.

Actually the park was opened during the nuclear explosion because they were trying to distracted citizens until they got enough transportation to come into the city to transport them out so it was open for about 1 to 2 days. Free to enter and ride as well...

There was an amusement park near Harrison, Arkansas called Dogpatch U.S.A. Kind of a corny little place representing Al Capp comic strips. My Dad took us one year and it was fun to an extent. The rides were so-so. A lot of crafts and souvenier shops, and hillbilly themed music. But was soon shut down and abandoned as well.
