I remember being 8 years old and seeing my uncle play Age of Empires. He was starting out in the stone age killing lions gathering food. I watched him play the game for over 2 hours advancing through the ages. Needless to say I used my allowance and bought the game that weekend. Thus began my attachment to strategy games.

Rise of Nations was a very underrated game. I had a blast playing that game! Very addictive with some innovative ideas. The developer was actually a former designer of Civilization 2 and Alpha Centauri.
@jovanthegreat4 жыл бұрын
It came shortly after AOE so it didnt get the attention, despite being a better game.
@starcraft2own4 жыл бұрын
@@jovanthegreat Even though i spent hundreds of hours on Rise of Nations back in the day, the game hasn't aged well at all. The fact that half the game is automated might have felt like a good idea when you were learning it but going back to the game with a wealth more knowledge in RTS games. The game fucking sucks compared to the other great RTS games of their time. Rise of nation might be better than Age of empires 1 but it doesn't hold a candle to age of empires 2 in almost every aspect. And yeah you can tell the developers did 4X games instead of RTS games in the design choices they made. All you do is use the troops that the AI that plays for you made and attack. And lets say you turn off the AI companion that literally plays half the game for you (like you should) The game still lacks a lot of flare and the innovative ideas turned out to be bad design choices. Most of the problems i had with Rise of Nations were fixed in Rise of Legends though. That game took what rise of nations did well and focused on those aspects. But yes back in the day it was one hell of a game, today not so much.

I totally agree after 250 hours into Rise of Nations singleplayer. Extenden Edition is not a very big graphics update, just a bit sharper and a bit better water. The resolution could be changed to FHD in original game in a text file in the folder.

Oh yeah, they have already done that. I also love this game, never get tired of it. Just wanna say that with the Extended Edition, you cannot mod anymore. Managed Diamond league in both EU ladder and Americas after 8 months, and now I am addicted. 1470 games in one season (there are at least 4 seasons each year, so thats a lot). In other words, if you like AoE2, SC2 could definitely be a favourite if you haven’t tried that.

Empire Earth actually isn't as bad as the reviews/user ratings make it out to be. Sure, it does have its flaws (and a numerous amount of them), but it does have a lot of character. It was a game well ahead of its time in terms of its concept and gameplay, and is personally still one of my favorites to this day. Empire Earth is one of those games you have to grow up with to be able to fully appreciate and enjoy it, but there's still a lot of good parts to enjoy about the game to new and returning players that the sequels just don't match up to.
@adris4325 жыл бұрын

Everbody loves EE1, one of the most iconic and most trend setting RTS games ever. But its graphics havent aged well at all. And id say most agree that EE2 was good. EE3 was an insult... Holy shit is this game bad. I remember how hyped i was when my older brother brought it home right after it was released. We started it, good main menu music, lets go! But then it went downhill right away. We were just watching each other with wtf faces over this cheap and tuned down parody of its predecessors. We never touched it again. It was the first video game i played which was a complete disappointment. Little did i know that this would become a trend with the time of releasing unfinished games coming up...

Knights of Honor is indeed awesome (hence why I can't wait for KoH2, which seems to be currently under work by Black Sea Games), but it's not quite the same as Age of Empires. Its closest parallel would probably be the Total War games (which is somewhat ironic, considering the first Rome TW, which came out only a few months before KoH, was one of the main reasons why KoH didn't become as popular as it should've been).
@miskas1234567896 жыл бұрын
I Loved RTW , I go check the game :p , does it happens to have any walkthrough to propose ?
@NikeBG6 жыл бұрын
While KoH is similar to RTW (a grand strategy, conquering and developing provinces, leading battles), keep in mind that it's not the same. The similarity between KoH and AoE is that they're real-time strategies, while TW games are turn-based. There are, of course, other differences in gameplay (the knights' court of KoH, limited in numbers, and especially the use of some of them, like the spies f.e.), the battles certainly aren't as flashy (KoH is 2D, which IMO gives it a charm of its own) etc. But in any case, it's definitely a game I'd recommend to strategy fans. And it's quite easy to learn.
@miskas1234567896 жыл бұрын
I saw some walkthroughs, the economy, and management content was somewhat superior from RTW 1 but it lucked in real-time battles. Koh with all the battles being resolved by CPU would be a nice browser game like supremacy I guess. (my favorite strategy game) Thanks for the info ^)^

Darth Skarr I played Galactic Battlegrounds myself. It was fun, but it really felt too much like an Age Of Empires 2 clone at times. I mean the Qui-Gon Jinn Training Campaign is nearly IDENTICAL to the William Wallace Campaign. But I think Galactic Battlegrounds really deserves recognition as an experiment in the RTS genre for the Star Wars franchise, as was another game called Force Commander. Both of those games I consider experiments that, after experimentation and refinement, would LEAD to the masterpiece that is Empire At War.

If you guys wanna try a not well known, yet i think awesome RTS, try Armies of Exigo. Its got plenty "its just a warcraft 3 copy" when it came out(thats why i wont became well known), but Armies of Exigo have plenty of "unique" mechanism.

No one seems to know what Rise & Fall Civilizations at war is? It really surprises me, it was one of the best RTS games of all time.

You forgot "populous (the beginning)", the best ever at least for me.

You forgot : Great War Nation : The spartans which is a slow but incredible game, u kill ennemy unit, u can steal their weapons once they die, u can create personnalized unit with the things u took from the ground in the old battlefields (shields, swrods etc.) so they do not cost in godl, or u can use your forge to create weapons and then equip ur units with.. rly, try this game.

I'm thankful you included Knights of Honor in this vid. It really deserves the rating and should be remaked for modern platforms. Its like Total war but instead of turn based it is real time. I really like their features especially the spy. I was wondering, why no Company of Heroes? It is a good RTS too.

Even now I like empire earth 1. Can't leave because of an 'outdated graphics' . We all come from that era.❤️

@ColdBeerHD I have played almost all of these games and your comment is right about Knights of Honor

I love Northgard but be careful if you are looking for a game Age of Empires, it's not. You have very few units at the same time and it's more about getting a balance between your ressources and going towards one of the many ways to achieve victory while making sure the other players don't
@VictorFler6 жыл бұрын
Northgard is kindly unique, but if I would compare it to other game, my first thought would be Settlers 6...

Also Seven Kingdoms: Ancient Adversaries. It came out in 1997 and is now free. The sequel wasn't great though.
