I agree that Irreversible, A Clockwork Orange, Come and See and Tetsuo were all disturbing films that were great. I also want to mention Perfect Blue, When the Wind Blows, Barefoot Gen, Birdboy: The Forgotten Children and Threads did disturb me when I first watched them.

hey, thanks for all the fun and insightful videos! Your channel is one of the highlights of 2020 to me, glad I found it. Also, I love the music of your intro sequence, makes me feel like I'm about to watch smth really cool and makes me excited. Great list, gonna get into watching the ones I haven't seen yet. Personally I would add The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover in the top 5. Watched it recently and it surprised me how sophisticated yet disturbing the movie was, I loved & hated every bit of it. Greetings!

No problem at all! I’m so inspired by being able to be a highlight in your 2020. And thanks for the compliments on the music! One of my best friends made it for me a while ago and people seem to really love it! I have a review on The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and her Lover! It’s a film that I really enjoyed and admired! Unfortunately, One of the things I didn’t like about it was the way the ending was built up and presented. I loved the concept of it. I just wasn’t a fan of the execution. Therefore, wasn’t as disturbing for me. But it’s a conceit that is certainly disturbing and the fact that resonated with you means you have excellent taste! Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback! :)

Wow, excellent and sometimes surprising list. I have Irreversible and Martyrs also in my Top 3. Let me please tell you what my No.1 film is. True story. It disturbed me so much in theaters back then, that I almost passed out in my seat. No shit! So I didn’t look on the screen for a while lol For the rest of the film I had my popcorn bag right on my belly in case I had to puke, obviously I didn’t felt that great, but thankfully I didn’t had to. Till this day, I haven’t seen it again and I promise I won’t. Some might laugh right now but I don’t care. The film I‘m talking about is one of the most successful R-Rated films in cinema history, The Passion of the Christ. By the way, have you seen Inside yet?! It would made it in my Top 5
@TheMisfitPond4 жыл бұрын
Chris B haha I can definitely see why Passion of the Christ would be traumatizing. It’s literally somebody being tortured for 2 hours for a total non crime. And it’s got some great acting and filmmaking behind it despite that it’s pure propaganda lol

Great List. Most would be on my list too. A few exceptions. Have you seen Michael Haneke's debut film, The Seventh Continent. I'd love to see you review this film, very disturbing and intense. It's a slow burner but psychologically traumatic, nightmarish and stays with you for days if not weeks. Don't watch if you suffer depression or any form of mental illness (should come with a serious warning). It depicts the nihilism and self destructive nature of modern industrial society, pesonal disentegration and alienation, and the banality and futility of life in general for your average middle class family. And what's even worst, is that its based on a true story, ripped straight from the headlines. Fucking insane, made me ill. Also Cronenberg's Crash would be on my list, Cronenberg, sado-masichism and car crashes, what more can I say. I might even do these as $50 patron reviews soon just to get your thoughts.Thanks Dude.

I just watched May the other night because of your review and loved it. It was equal parts awkward and disturbing. Martyrs was gory as fuck but shit like that and The Green Inferno doesn't bother me as much. But that fucking scene in The Nightingale made me wince and momentarily close my eyes. It's and amazing film. The rape scene from I Spit on Your Grave is also difficult to watch. As well as the rape scene from Deliverance. And Come and See was a very harrowing experience because you realize that this shit really occurred. I still need to check out Gummo. I've never heard of Happiness. I watched 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days because of your review and it was really good and also harrowing to learn that these people endured this oppression. Dogtooth and Antichrist are awesome and disturbing. I'll check out Cache. Funny Games annoyed me like no other movie. I tried watching Irreversible but it wasn't my thing. I've never seen a David Lynch or Cronenberg film. I hear great things about Mulholland Drive. Maybe I'll check it out. I just watched Requiem for a Dream again and that film is amazing to me. I just finally watched Black Swan and loved that. Aronofsky is now one of my favorite filmmakers. It's not disturbing but The Fountain is just incredible. As far as thought provoking, existential, ambiguous films I think it's my favorite. And I need to rethink my top ten favorites of all time because I think I need to squeeze it in there.
