I haven't seen all gialli ever yet, and I also haven't seen all of those which are considered to be the greatest yet. These are just my faves so FAR. I am very aware of the hype around some that I have yet to watch, and I will get there. Thank you to most of you who already understood that, lol. But I got a rude comment about it. I think this is a silly argument. People say Leatherface isn't a Slasher killer because technically he doesn't stalk his victims, even though he totally ends up doing that. I feel like Susperia is a Giallo Fable or Giallo Færie Tale. Yes, there are Supernatural elements to the story, but the guy doing the stabbing is still doing the stabbing ♥🗡 The style is so quintessentially and unmistakably Italian Giallo, taken to such an extreme that it's completely unforgettable and undoubtedly one of the single greatest Horror films ever committed to Celluloid. I got to see it in the theater just last year over Halloween! 😚👌

@@KatieoftheNight There was a short period of time when we had an element of freedom that does not exist now. Somewhere from the late 60's until about 1977 restrictions on sexual content and violence were minimal. We "Boomers" were lucky to live when we did, the world was low tech compared to now, but so much freer in many ways. Also, food, housing, land and cars were almost free compared to now. Cheers!

My Sister used to work with actress Suzy Kendal when she was doing Fabric design at Cautaulds Acetates here in Derby in the UK in the late 50s or early 60s. Suzy's real name was Freda Harrison but changed her name when she started Modelling

Used to love watching Giallo films when I was into off the beaten path movies. Your list contained some good ones. I don't remember finding A Blade In The Dark funny. The end flashback was a bit ridiculous, though, but the killer was batshit insane and I remember a murder scene that was quite nasty.

A great list. Black Belly of the Tarantula, Spasmo, Torso, Case of the Scorpions Tail, Strange Vice of Mrs. Wardh (prefer it too to All the Colors of the Dark) naming a few of my top faves too. I'd recommend Your Vice is a Locked room and Only I have the Key, directed by Sregio Martino, it's got Edwidge and Ivan Rassimov. Pretty much all you could want in a Giallo, also what a title! Also I totally agree that Strange Vice is better than All the colours of the Dark. Great video btw, thanks

Thank you for watching, I'm glad you enjoyed! I have seen "Your Vice"! I love that title too, lol. I found it to be a bit too icky and uncomfortable for my tastes. But the CAST is just so perfect.. Plus the way the movie stays with you long after you've seen it.. I have mixed feelings about this movie but do not dispute its significance. Plus, I watched this one kinda early in my giallo journey so it might be worth a revisit.

You're one of the COOL ones sister! 😎👍 If you've never seen "My Dear Killer" by Tonino Valerii (from 1972)... it's my personal top favorite giallo right up there with "Deep Red", which I consider THE best.

I love gialli! Great films here, surprised that the godfather of the genre (Mario Bava) didn't make the list. My favourite giallo is probably Death Walks on High Heels, so many twists and turns in that one.

I've only seen 28 giallo so far but of those my favs (in no particular order) are: The Red Queen Kills Seven Times The Case of the Scorpions Tail Deep Red The Bird with the Crystal Plumage Your Vice is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key Opera A Bay of Blood Tenebrae The New York Ripper Suspiria (it's not a giallo, but I love it) Blood and Black Lace The Strange Vice of Mrs Wardh Don't Torture a Duckling Pieces (not sure if this counts as a giallo)

I hear ya! I am not a slasher connoisseur by any means but I definitely saw my fair share of slashers before I got into giallo. They are like cousins haha. And there are def some 80s gialli that really fit well with slasher vibes. Aw that's great to hear about your musical taste. Most of the posters are from metal mags in the 2000s. RIP!

I`m not huge fan of giallo but I think my favourite right now is Tenebre. It is great. If you haven`t seen this neo giallo movie Knife plus heart I can highly recommend it. There`s interesting storytelling and beautiful cinematography in it. But also provocative themes.

Great list, all of my favorites besides Tenebrae are there. I recommend the two Death Walks movies, midnight and high heels if you've not seen them. Also Dressed to kill, not technically giallo but very similar.

Are you talking about the famous Brian DePalma one with Angie Dickerson, Michael Caine, Nancy Allen murder slasher film that came out around 1980???????????? That DRESSED TO KILL???????? If so then I would say Brian De Palma's Dressed To Kill IS SIMILAR TO THOSE CLASSIC GIALLOS- AND ALSO A BIG TRIBUTE TO ALFRED HITCHCOCK's "PSYCHO" TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dressed To Kill is an American giallo type version.

This is a good list with Argento, Martino, Fulci etc... Have you seen some of Mario Bava’s films? He’s considered the godfather of Italian horror / thrillers and The Girl who Knew Too Much and Blood and Black Lace are considered some of the earliest examples of gialli that other filmmakers tried to emulate. His son also directed films like A Blade in the Dark, which you covered and reviewed.

Thank you! I did see Blood and Black Lace. It was a fun time for sure. I have yet to watch The Girl who Knew too Much. I did watch Bay of Blood the other day! I loved the violence and creativity there but felt the characters were kind of haphazard and not sure who was the main one if that makes sense.

@@KatieoftheNight Blood and Black Lace is great and many other gialli tried to imitate the killer’s iconic black trench coat look. Even Rorschach from Watchmen looks like the killer from Blood and Black Lace. I haven’t seen The Girl who Knew Too Much yet, but I’ve heard it’s Bava’s take on a Hitchcock style thriller about a witness to a murder getting roped into a conspiracy. A lot of gialli start with that basic premise before spiralling out into all sorts of crazy tangents. A Bay of Blood is unique because it’s not a typical giallo. It’s more like an early proto-slasher because the first killer is revealed then immediately killed by another killer. Eventually, you find out pretty much everybody’s a killer, except the poor teenagers who just happened to stumble into the abandoned lake house. You can definitely see how it inspired many slashers, especially American ones from the ‘80s like Friday the 13th. The double impalement shish kebob kill with the spear in A Bay of Blood is basically recreated in Friday the 13th, Part II, but actually shows less because of MPAA censors. A lot of American horror films from the ‘70s to present owe a lot to Italian gialli, which owe a lot to Hitchcock’s thrillers and film noir.

Hi, I am new to your channel. Loved this and your other gialli video, the one about your least favorite gialli! All 17 of these are great movies, but the question is if Phenomena is a gialli? It has been debated before. For me it is sort of a gialli mixed with supernatural horror elements. Some might not agree on that one. Suspiria though is definitely not a gialli, but a supernatural horror movie. But it has always been lumped into the gialli genre. I have been a fan of this genre since I was a kid. If you have not seen Tenebre (Argento), A Bay of Blood (Bava) and The Fifth Cord (Bazzoni) they are all great gialli I think. Love to see more of your videos, I see that you like black/death metal too so I guess I will enjoy your channel. Love from Sweden!

You are quite an enjoyable adorable young lady. It was fun to watch your presentation. I would recommend quite a few films you may have seen or may have not. One of my favourites that you did not mention was the 5th chord. Another earlier Mario Bava film, Five Dolls for an August Moon is one of my top five gialli. And intensely weird psychedelic giallo from the late 80s is called Delirium. It is sleazy but fun. Another two that I routinely watch over and over are The Killer Reserved Nine Seats and The Killer Must Kill Again. I would love to know what you think about some of these films. Also all of Martino's work too (altho I saw that you weren't crazy about Suspicious Death of A Minor). 😉 Two more of my favorites for you.... 1. The House With Laughing Windows:. Kind of like Suspira in that it's more of a horror/supernatural film but it does have the giallo feeling. Creepy AF! Watch late at night in the dark. Believe it or not Phil Anselmo turned me on to it. 2. The Fox with the Velvet Tail (aka Eye of the Hurricane). Again, not a typical black glove and straight razor giallo, but worth checking out for the great acting and awesome scenery. Love, love , love your channel! Keep it up and stay heavy! 🤘🤘

Suspiria is one of my favorite films, but it is NOT a giallo, as it has supernatural elements. A giallo is a crime film with elements of erotica and slasher films. We Americans commonly make this mistake. No Italian would consider Suspiria a giallo.

I would not count "Phenomena" as a giallo, it is a supernatural story, same Suspiria, not a "giallo" , more supernatural horror. While "Tenebrae" from Argento may be pat of the list

Some really good choices, there's a few in there that I still need to watch. In the comments another viewer recommends The New York Ripper, I agree as it would be fascinating to hear a female perspective on this movie. Also what about The Bird With The Crystal Plumage? This is one of the top rated movies of the giallo genre.

I just watched The New York Ripper a couple of weeks ago! Overall I give it a thumbs up despite its awful sleaze!! Maybe I should try a review on it (not a plot review lol). And I have YET to watch The Bird with the Crystal Plumage. It's been sitting on my to-watch list, apparently I need to get on that!

Hi Gary! Deep Red-(1975) directed by Dario Argento IS STILL THE MT RUSHMORE OF THE BEST GIALLO THRILLERS!!!!!!!!!! HANDS DOWN!!!!!!!!! My other favorites are ARGENTO's "The Bird With The Crystal Plumage"-(1969), "The Cat O'Nine Tails-(1971),"Four Flies On Grey Velvet-"-(1971), and Emilio P. Miraglia's "The Red Queen Kills 7 Times"-(1972),& Giuliano Carnimeo/Anthony Ascott's- "The Case Of The Bloody Iris-"(1972), and go back to the first big hit giallo film by the legendary Mario Bava-"The Evil Eye"/"The Girl Who Knew Too Much"-(1963) starring Leticia Roman, and John Saxon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Check out those films!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@@davidwolfe4240 Thanks for your feedback. I'm still quite new to the giallo genre, so the recommendations are very welcome. I've just purchased DEEP RED on blu ray but have not got around to watching it yet. It's hard to watch giallo on the tv networks here in England (UK), don't think they broadcast any of these films to be honest. Have to buy mine on blu ray, so have only managed to see about 14 or 15 at the moment. Thanks again for your recommendations will certainly be trying to watch some of those in the near future.

This isn't my favorite subgenre, but I love The Red Queen Kills Seven Times and Don't Torture a Duckling. You've probably seen it, but I'd recommend Fulci's The New York Ripper. It's stupid-sleazy. lol

OHH I just watched The New York Ripper a couple of weeks ago! I actually loved it in a lot of ways, especially the quacking. But you are right, it's VERY sleazy and uncomfortable at points for sure.

The Red Queen Kills 7 Times is a very tricky film, but is so entertaining and really spooky as well as scary!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's ranks right up there behind Dario Argento!!!!!!!!! And YES, Dario Argento's "Tenebrae"-(1982) is also one of my favorites TOO!!!!!!!!!!!
