I think a good piece of advice is to make sure that you’re packing heavy things like books, tools, etc. in small boxes (as small as they can fit) and light things like blankets, pillows, etc. in large boxes. its tempting to throw all of your books in a big box so they’re all together but you probably wont be able to lift it on your own

Moving hack from someone who has worked with pro movers. If you are loading a moving truck, line the back wall with the boxes stacked high. Once all boxes are in you can put mattresses/box springs in front to hold them back there and strap that all down against back wall. Then you start lego-ing furniture. You don't want room for things to wiggle or shift during the drive. You don't want a bunch of loose stuff up top. Only things that will stay relatively still. For your mirrors, art, glass, breakable things wait till the end and on the wall near the front you'll want to have a dresser or some solid place to set them. Put down towels/blankets for them to sit on as well. Then between each piece of glass/art ect put another towel or blanket. Padding between each one. Finally strap the whole padded mass against the wall. Another thing to load last is chairs. They can be set on top of stuff at the end. Also be sure to utilitize spaces in your car. The easier it is to start pulling out the furniture then the beds and then the boxes will make the unloading much faster

The way I label my boxes: get FedEx pouches (they're free!), cut copy paper (8.5 x 11) in half, write your description and slide inside the pouch. The pouch can stay on the box, the paper can be recycled, and new paper with description reinserted for future use. You can also use colored copy paper for box/room assignment.

Great tips! I learnt a lot from this video and I have a little tip on my own. Instead of cardboard boxes, I have inexpensive, reusable, stackable plastic boxes. They are easier to carry because of their built-in handles and there are even some with wheels for the heavier objects. Once the moving part is over, they can be used as dust- and water resistant storage containers and the clear ones allow to see what's inside without needing to go through all of them.

For boxes, at least in Ontario, Canada, a cheap way to get boxes is collect them from work, LCBO (liquor store), grocery stores, etc. I’ve looked them all up too. Canadian Tire has the cheapest boxes ($1.79, $2.79 and $3.79 for small, med and large). Large is massive and a bit useless. Med is nice cuz there’s only so much you can fit in small LCBO boxes

For the bags over the clothes, I don't put a hole in the bag. I put the bag on in reverse and cinch the bag close around the hangers up top and use the draw string to tie around the handles. You can zip tie or band them together first and then just do one tie with the pull strings and do a bowtie so that you don't knot the strings. This way you can use the garbage bags when you are done and it's super fast to do.

DIY Vaccum seal! I found it to save so much space when I would take dirty laundry to wash at my moms house on holiday trips; to evenly distribute the clothes in heavy black trash bags( so they keep a uniformed shape to fit together best when packed) then twist the top of the bag around vaccum hose, turn on vaccum until all air is out. Remove the hose and pinch off by continuing to twist further, then seal quickly with 2 doubled tiny rubber bands that I had leftover from bracelet rubbetband making. Then I packed them in large hard covered suit cases with wheels. Do the same process for trip back home, just fold and roll the item/clothes before hand. This would work for all cloth things including pillows!!!

I go to Walgreens for empty boxes from deliveries as they are clean and small. I also actually take clean Amazon and other boxes from recycling bins on trash day. They often have tons of great pillow packing material. My favorite is a Disney box with mickey mouse ears. Those white boxes are super nice but too expensive and I don't want to have to store them. I'd leave the labels on them and just reuse next time.

Or you could put duct tape down first, then your packing tape label (leaving a border of duct tape), and when you want to remove it you can just remove the packing tape and the duct tape protects your box

I love the clothing Hack. I’m moving now and literally googled hacks and this is the best one. Also!!! Where did you get your giant pillows from?

Nice apartment! A lot of times you can go to grocery stores or liquor stores for boxes that even have dividers for cups and glasses 🤓

Ha! I thought I invented the rubber band trick. Been using it for years now. What I typically do though, is that I roll the clothes around the tied together hangers, and put these rolls in a large thick garbage bag, that way you need fewer bags. Some moving companies also provide tall boxes with a clothing rail on top where you can hang these tied together clothes.

Hi I like your idea of putting the garage bags over the clothes because it protects your clothes from getting dirty !!

Here is my moving hack I moved 13 times in 17 years. 😁😁I use see through plastic bags over my clothes like this girl and I don’t use boxes any more because it’s expensive and you have too many boxes as a leftover after you move in . Label the bags like mums bedroom Like shoe room so when my husband picks it up he knows where to drop it . I do put plates into plastic bags so don’t need to label since you see through goes into the plastic bin container. I put ornaments into towels and into another this time laundry basket. We move ourselves we do it like a light . In n out shaking all about 😀😀 everything is in it’s new place within 2/ 3 days . 😀

I know it was a long time ago but do you put everything in plastic bags? Sounds better than boxes or bins. What can't you put in a bag?

This is a good video Sophia! I have done a lot of these and that first one will change your moving experience Soooo much! I started first using those suit bags but those are more costly and can't cover as many clothes as a cheaper garbage bag. I love the screws taped to the piece of furniture, that is a great idea. For me, I always have had the necessity box/bag and chargers and things like that need to be in there as well. Last bust not least the bed being done first is such great advice! You know you get tired. Take a break or a nap and feel that new place happiness! Amazing looking spot btw. Congrats on that 😉
