I think Ritchie Blackmore was a sociopath/psychopath, in that he had little respect for anyone but himself. He even hated Graham Bonnet his frontman, for refusing to grow his hair long. However, his music is in a different class from bands like the Police and it will be remembered and played for a lot longer, before it disappears into obscurity.

I remember once watching a drum video cause I'm a drummer and I dig Ian Paice, Paice mentioned once that Ritchie said that "Technically Eric Clapton can't really play a guitar" I was never there, but I've heard that Ritchie was very difficult to work with at times. As Ian once put it, if Ritchie was having a bad day , then everyone else was too. Ronnie Montrose was another one that was difficult. He once told Sammy Hagar, you don't play guitar, you don't talk between songs, you don't say or do anything except sing the songs. Then he ended up firing Sammy Hagar and Bill his bass player at the time. That's when Montrose broke up. That whole business in music is much like prostitution. I've seen Ritchie once play with his Rainbow band here in Fresno California Seland Arena. Ritchie opened up for Blue Oyster Cult. I guess Rainbow's time was cut short and Ritchie became mad. So all of his songs during the set Ritchie would play up until the solo and then he'd turn down the guitar's volume and take his guitar off and lay it down. People booed as they wanted to hear his brilliant guitar work. But he cut all the songs short cause he doesn't like being fucked with I would imagine. I've seen Rainbow "Blackmore's Rainbow" about 4 times where I witnessed some of the greatest guitar work on the planet. Another thing too I remember. When Ritchie tore a guitar up he'd swing it around above his head feeding back and it sounded so cool! He then reeled in the guitar as it swung it around and once he got a hold of it he then took it as it had a broken head he'd still use his tremolo bar and pull the guitar in and out of key with style to the musical situation that was happening. Not too many guitarists can smash a guitar and still make it sing. Yeah Ritchie was difficult but he is a great guitar legend!

@@marcstevens8576 They did start off their career by doing covers, and as a blues based band it was inevitable they’d be heavily influenced by the originators. Once they were writing their own material their sound evolved, although still with strong blues & country influences. Personally I don’t have a problem with that, probably because I grew up during the ‘blues boom’ era listening to bands like Fleetwood Mac, The Bluesbreakers, Taste, Paul Butterfield, Canned Heat etc who all borrowed from or ‘ripped off’ the original artists… and in the process often rebooted those previously neglected artists’ careers. I think the Stones’ blues roots help to explain their remarkable longevity… the genre is universal & timeless.

Tak naprawdę R. Blackmore nie lubił jednego zespołu - Deep Purple z Gillanem.
@PiotrLangtvedt2 ай бұрын
To prawda. Ale to tak naprawdę nie jest dziwne. Gillan miał za mocną osobowość a Blackmore zawsze chciał mieć wszystko pod kontrolą.

I've seen many of his peers dislike the Stones. They are far from unoriginal. Guess what Ritchie? Many if not most bands have stolen riffs. I'm afraid I have to disagree with him on the Police. I have always liked them but Sting has morphed into a self-righteous holy bore. He was not keen on the punk/new wave thing but that's fine. Don't get me wrong I like RB and loved Deep Purple as a kid. Still do. Getting back to the Stones it's merely jealousy

@squid66715 күн бұрын
He does. He has said that he thinks Benny and Bjørn are some of the very best composers of our time. Supposedly Cozy Powell also liked Abba a lot. I also remember reading somewhere that Pete Townshend was completely obsessed with their song SOS when it came out. I must say that I agree with them.
