I was in a stage play and it required my female counterpart (we were both leads) to be nude. At first she said no as she felt uncomfortable but the director told her the importance of it and she finally agreed to do it. I definitely understand why so many refuse to do nude scenes and to this day I still don't think she liked doing it and I feel bad for her that the director was pressuring her. We had a kissing scene which she was totally fine with but yes being nude is not for everyone.

If nudity is clearly stated in the script don't take the part! When James Spader agreed to do Cronenberg's Crash he told the director that he understood from the script that he had to fuck everybody!

It already ain't easy for most people to act in movies, let alone do scenes that require their bare bodies exposed. I guess to them, it feels like their dignity is being sold, which is understandable. Imagine people recognizing you only because of that one scene of U naked. I also want to make sure that I state that every actor has the right to choose what they are comfortable with or not on set. If they personally choose not to do nude scenes I absolutely respect that as all should. However if you are doing a provocative and sexualized role anyway why not. I think thats a reasonable question. Maybe they get a kick out of just being a tease for their fans.

I feel like there isnt much incentive to do it now unless you just want to show off your body and confidence. I do think however in the 1990s in particular there were so many actresses that did themselves a disservice not doing it. They all would have made fortunes doing it where it was considered a career pinnacle being in Playboy when there was no websites to get that type of content and the internet was just in the beginning. From the cast of Friends which was hot at the time, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Alicia Silverstone, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Neve Campbell so many I am not thinking of right now. All would have been set for life instantly for doing it especially as each one got more provocative as they matured. They were all teasing it so why not just do it.
