One time singer Edwin McCain was asked if he ever got tired of singing his massive 1999 hit "I'll Be". He said he could never understand singers who tired of performing the one song that probably kept them from becoming a pizza delivery person. He compared it to someone who wins the lottery, buys a big beautiful house, sticks the ticket on the wall and then walks past the ticket every day and says "stupid lottery ticket!". A lot of these performers have had very nice lives thanks to these songs. Be grateful for what you have

fantastic analogy. It is a kind of shame when they regret these songs, but you just always have to think of it from their perspective. I'm sure EVERY artist has that one song or couple songs they literally just get tired of, or they don't think it suits their current purpose, or how they would like to be perceived. Nevertheless, I tend to agree with you. The people, the masses, the ones that lift you up because THEY decide they like something, you have to embrace this, it's for the best, it's fan service, it's just service in general. "Hey if they like it, I'll give it to them". It's only a few minutes of performance haha. Besides, I don't think anyone can just decide what of the things they do becomes the MEGA SUCCESS they want it to be. All you can do is put it out there and let the people decide. I'm sure Chester Bennington was completely done with "Crawling" and "In the End" towards the end of this late career, but those songs are what really made Linkin Park DIAMOND ALBUM sellers. You gotta embrace the people.
@sarabryan61032 жыл бұрын
I think the Backstreet Boys said something similar. They would get tired of singing the same songs by the time their forth album came out but now, performing almost 30 years later, they say these songs are something that have stuck with people and sing along to and that's something to be grateful for.

there's an old saying called: "Don't bite the hand that feeds you". I get it that some songs are so overplayed, that even the artists themselves find the song annoying after a while. these artists gotta learn some humility, cuz the very song they're avoiding is likely the same song that made them famous in the first place. At least some of them on this list do recognize the song's impact and perform it regardless of their personal opinions.

From a fan’s perspective, overall I can see how we would be confused as to why the artist seems to be ungrateful with their success of a song. But from an artist’s perspective I can imagine how being compared to one piece of art (song) for your whole life and you have other forms of art that are not being recognized can be a little hurtful. But I enjoy listening to a lot of the songs that are on the list. But again, I’m a fan, not an artist.

Thousand Miles was a great song that was performed extremely well. But I can understand why Vanessa Carlton grew to hate it. She matured a lot as she gained professional experience, and her music got better, so to be so recognized for such a basic early effort while her better products went unrecognized is a normal reaction. But I was glad to see that she mellowed and appreciated her audience's reaction to it. I mean, it's a REALLY good song after all. EDIT: I can't believe how much I love so many of the songs on this list! Oh well, I guess artists can't control how their audience feels about their work. I am very grateful that the artists sent these songs out into the world to improve my life. I am sorry they don't please their authors.
@The_Phoenix_Saga2 жыл бұрын
She basically hates it because it's reduced her to just a one hit wonder. When you debut strong like that, the bar is set and you're expected to keep to that level or go above it, fail that and almost none will remember them. I for one don't know a single song she's done other then a thousand miles. And as harsh as it sounds, the mantra is true: Give and Get Good or Go and Get Gone.

One artist that should definitely be on here is Bobby McFerrin. I think i read somewhere that he hates his song "Don't Worry, Be Happy" so much that he gets physically ill when he has to perform it. Now THAT's hating a song. Also, the guitarist from Radiohead hated the song "Creep" so much he put that heavy riff in it, that comes right before the chorus deliberately to ruin the song, Ironically, it's probably the most defining part of the song.

It's a good thing, especially in hindsight, Nirvana didn't include "Smells Like Teen Spirit" in their MTV Unplugged appearance. Seriously, thumbs up to Cobain for that. I've grown tired of that song ages ago. Just appreciating the rest of the band's other songs feels more refreshing by the year. "Breed," anyone? Sure, it may be weird to some, but c'mon! Cobain was far greater than what "Teen Spirit" brought to the grunge movement.
@mathprodigy2 жыл бұрын
it's a true example of one mega-hit kind of overshadowing the other things they did. Though by today, people are well-aware of Nirvana's other stuff. If Kurt could still be here, I'm sure they'd be even more defined as artists with a huge, wider catalogue to appreciate. But most people today still hear the radios play "Heart-Shaped Box" and stuff.

Celine Dion hates “My Heart Will Go On”. She said that she didn’t want to record another film theme song.

Honorable Mention (loves the song, hates the version you're familiar with): Paul McCartney, "The Long and Winding Road" - after what Phil Spector did to the song with all his Let It Be orchestration, if Lana Clarkson had killed Phil Spector and not the other way around, McCartney probably would've put his ten-figure fortune at her disposal to ensure that she faced no real consequences for ridding the world of the POS who butchered such a beautiful work.

I feel Peter Townshend pain and hate toward Pinball Wizard. My freshman year of high school, Pinball Wizard was our marching band show that year. I had to play that song so much, I developed a certain hatred for it.

The most hilarious revelations to me are the couple of 1 Hit Wonders on the list. How you gonna hate the only reason anyone knows who you are? Would you rather be a 1 hit wonder or a no hit wonder?

Levi Stubbs of the Four Tops once admitted that he hated "I Can't Help Myself" because he thought that the line "Sugar pie, honey bunch" was the dumbest lyric he had ever heard in his entire life and wasn't afraid to tell the composers Holland-Dozier-Holland.

So Miley Cyrus despises Party In the USA? Well, at least she doesn’t resent her Golden Globe-nominated song I Thought I Lost You. That duet she had with John Travolta was the best one I’ve heard from her.

Considering party in the USA was written by Jesse J, and she decided she didn’t like it so didn’t record the song and sold it to Mileys label and they basically made her record it… if you listen to a lot of the song it dosnt make sense for an American to be singing it lol
