I haven't finished watching the video yet, but wanted to say that when my late husband of 34 years died in 2020, Into The West was my comfort song. It will always remain a special song to me.

I have similar feelings for the song, knowing that my brother was a huge Tolkien/LOTR fan and dearly loved those movies. It helps to have something to remember them by, though Warren Zevon's "Keep Me in Your Heart" is the one I most remember him by as we watched Zevon's last appearance on Letterman days before he died. My favorite fact about My Heart Will Go On, was that when they pitched the idea of the song to Celine, she was apprehensive about singing it at first. She said it was intimidating to be the only song with lyrics in the entire main soundtrack of such an enormous film. Her husband eventually convinced her, so she recorded the demo. Before she recorded, they showed her the movie, and had her record the song directly after watching it. She said in an interview once, years ago, that she remembers walking into the studio to record, still crying, and recorded it in one take. ICON. (I'm sure it was probably just a portion of it just to get an idea as to the mood and nature of the film - though I suppose it may have been the full film)

Indian is not a language, and the song Jai Ho, is written in four different languages. Here is what languages Jai Ho, is written in: The lyrics to "Jai Ho" were written by Gulzar and are a combination of Hindi, Urdu and Punjabi. Lyrics in Spanish are also included in the song "to go along with his [Rahman] Latin American touch of music". According to the India-EU Film Initiative, this inclusion "really makes the song quite unique and international". Of the three singers credited, Sukhwinder Singh is the principal vocalist. Vijay Prakash sang the portion with the words "Jai Ho", which takes a high pitch at numerous junctures of the song. Mahalakshmi Iyer sang the Hindi words between the "Jai Ho" chants and the portions of the verses not sung by Singh. Tanvi Shah sang and wrote the song's Spanish words.

"Over the Rainbow" works because it is a young girl's "daydream" song. Dancers and flashy effects would only have spoiled it. The purity of the setting - a young girl's highly constrained, rural (and therefore dull) environment is the PERFECT place to imaging that girl singing about escaping. When the studio wanted to bump the song, the people who stopped them did film history the biggest favor ever done.

Take my breath away from Top Gun is awesome. Top Gun is a really good movie. Let it go is a great song. I love the song Shallow. Lion King is my all time favorite movie. Dirty dancing is my number one favorite movie it is the best movie ever in my opinion. Beauty and the beast is what true love is cause Bell fell in love with the beast for who he was not how he looked. Man I love the song from titanic.

Congratulations. Well-crafted video with very good analysis of each of the chosen songs. I will insist, though, that there are three obvious omissions: 1. 'White Christmas': not only a classic holiday song but also one of the best-selling songs of all time! 2. 'Que Sera Sera': a popular tune performed by Doris Day that was also a big part of the plot of the film! 3. 'Jai Ho' was not the first foreign-language song to win the Oscar, that distinction goes to 'Never on Sunday', which was sung in Greek by the 'last Grecian Goddess' - Melina Merkouri. These deserved at least an honorable mention, as you do with 'Fame' and 'A Whole New World'.

I loved the selection but I think you forgot "White Christmas" from "Holiday Inn" because that song among other of this list transcended their original movie and became an staple from the Holiday's Song
@laurellane1721 Жыл бұрын
I was going to write that. I can't take a list seriously that leaves out that song and, IMO, should have been No. 1 on the list. There isn't a celebrator of Christmas that does not know and sing that song. And to me, that's what makes a song one of the best. Some of the songs on this list will not be remembered or sung 50 years from now but White Christmas will be. They really missed the mark on this one. And 'As Time Goes By' should have been No. 2.

…it didn’t win the Oscar for Best Original Song. It was originally written, performed, and recorded by Dolly Parton in the 70’s.
@NedNickerson2010 Жыл бұрын
For a song to qualify for an Oscar, it has to be an original song composed specifically for the film in which it appears. "I Will Always Love You" was written and recorded by Dolly Parton in 1973. Therefore, it did not qualify for the Oscar since Whitney Houston's recording was a cover version. Case in point: None of the songs in "Evita" (1996) qualified for an Oscar because they were all old material from the various stage productions. Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice composed a new song for the movie version, "You Must Love Me," so the song would be eligible for a qualifying "Best Song" award. "You Must Love Me" won the Oscar that year for "Best Original Song."
@denaspohn5207 Жыл бұрын
I don't think it was nominated because it was not written originally for that film. I would have to check. Dolly Parton would have won an Oscar for writing it.

A bit of trivia wrt Moon River. When the film was screened for the producers/big wigs, one of them demanded that the song and Hepburn’s performance be removed because (paraphrasing) ‘the song was awful, the performance sucked and and no one would like it.’ Luckily the director disagreed and insisted that the scene and song remain…and the rest is history. 😁

Thanks for counting all the Disney Renn songs kind of together. Little Mermaid, Beauty & the Beast, Aladdin, and Lion King are so many people's childhoods and were really groundbreaking. Not to take anything away form other Disney flicks, but I'm sure a lot of 80's babies will agree that those were foundational movies and music for us. Thank you for acknowledging them all and especially Howard Ashman and Alan Menken. RIP HA ~ "He gave a mermaid her voice and a beast his soul" ~
