Some interesting choices, but I'm rather shocked at the lack of many classic tank games such as Squad Leader, Advanced Squad Leader, Panzer Blitz/Panzer Leader, Panzer'44, Arab-Israeli Wars, Tobruk and Patton's Best.
@TheDiceTreasures2 жыл бұрын
Oh yes, absolutely agree. That's why I plan to make an update about tank board games - where to include those that you mentioned and more. Reason for choice to exclude many was simple - to cut it down to top 20. But as I said update is planned in future videos. And who knows may be - some of those games must be unpacked and reviewed. But that as well - looking bit in future. Thank you for comment - appreciate your opinion!

I would include GMT's recent remake of _Panzer,_ and the revision/rerelease of _Tank Leader_ that happened within this last year. Also, for _Tobruk_ there's the classic by AH (1975ish) and a recent remake by Critical Hit (that incorporated a lot of ideas from ASL, but was endorsed by _Tobruk's_ original creator, Hal Hock).
@calessel31392 жыл бұрын
@@dphalanx7465 Those sound like great games I'll have to look into them. BTW less known is an AH General magazine update for Tobruk, I think in 1976 or 77, that includes new rules and a numer of tanks such as Pz-IV "specials" (Pz4 F2), and updated armor penetration/effects charts. Unfortunately, unless you can get an old copy with the counters still in it, you'll have to print them out yourself. On the plus side, the on-line media archive, Archive-org has all the issues of the General in PDF format for free (I'd put the link in here but KZbin won't allow me to post this comment then).

@@calessel3139 I've got that Issue! Vol.13#4. It's a must-have for people who like Classic _Tobruk._ Hal Hock answered a bunch of questions/errata, and dropped some more Designer's Notes. They introduced Armored Cars, armed Halftracks, and a couple of the rarer Tanks/TDs. 👍

It is the great game. Never had this one myself, but in childhood I had different game made in USSR game similar to Tank Battle... unfortunately I do not remember the title. But... but, during childhood in 1980s we played something resembling Tank Command in sand boxes....We had no Tank Command - so we created our own games. We had metal tank miniature models... as well USSR made, so we created a trail / roads in sand boxes, opponent hide old magnets under the sand, another opponent attached thread to his metal tanks and drag through the route and tried to avoid "magnetic mines" and get to as many tanks as possible to the finish line. Basically you always must chose one of 2 or 3 road forks. Oh my.... that was great time.

:D Yes, its not, but I could not not to include that. However it has mechanized and tank units as well. Sorry if disappointing you with that one (A&A) - probably it was may personal subjective taste. @mikedearing63523 ай бұрын
I was surprised to see Axis and Allies as a tank game, of course it has tanks but.. not anything complex about how they are used, I'm a Third Reich fan (Avalon hill), they use tanks and the tanks have special tank stuff, zones of control, exploitation attacks, various range and combat strengths, probably still not a great tank game but it's pretty much a classic game anyways and has several other very cool aspects like the air power rules, strategic warfare, interesting naval interception

Panzer General I have both Allied Assault and Russian Assault. The rules and unit card differences are very minor and it is not difficult to integrate them, providing wondrous variety of German units for a scenario. Axis & Allies I have 1942 (2nd ed), Anniversary (2nd ed), and A&A Europe and A&A Pacific together forming the global game which is GODAWESOME when laid out, but you need a very big table. I play the global game, but also use the convenient paper money provided by the anniversary game. MBT Not mentioned was its companion game IDF. MBT stands for Main Battle Tank and is a US/FRG vs USSR conflict with appropriate terrain boards for central Europe. IDF stands for Israeli Defense Force and is an Arab vs Israeli conflict in 1967 or 1973, with terrain boards for desert combat. The rules and unit data cards are almost identical and intentionally compatible, so you can actually recreate almost any battle from the Korean War to Iraqi Freedom, though the scenarios provided are for the two conflicts that form the basis of the games. As a side note, I had MBT & IDF but they were misplaced during my divorce. I went online and bought MBT from a private seller. Then I bought IDF from a different private seller, but he had both and his wife packed the wrong one, so now I had 2 copies of MBT, so I contacted him again and bought the IDF. Then my ex wife found my original 2 games and gave them to me, so I now have 3 MBT and 2 IDF. It's a company and battalion level game but with all those unit counters I can field entire regiments, though it does make for long play.

Tank Battle (1975) is a good game, and unlike many table top games includes aspects of supply and hidden information. It's more playable than realistic but with house rules could be expanded... also it uses Panther and Sherman Firefly or are they M4A3E8? Anyway legit tanks. the 2003 game looks a lot like it, is it a remake somehow? Similar rules?

Technically flames of war is a miniatures game. You need a 4 x 8 table and a lot more than comes in the starter boxes. Also its a lot like 40k, where battlefront updates/changes the rules every few years meaning you have to buy all new books. Have played it for years, but you need to invest a lot of money.
@WarlordOfIowa66 Жыл бұрын
There are far better games out there then FOW. The only thing FOW has going for it is marketing and good miniatures. The rules, themselves, are really bad.
@johnsorge3034 Жыл бұрын
@@WarlordOfIowa66 I agree, there are a lot better WW2 games than FoW. However, the best is not always popular. What you forget is in the beginning (90's) FoW spent a huge amount of $$$ on getting their game out at the cons. Once they got that foothold everything else was a 2nd place choice. Sort of how GW took hold with 40k.
@WarlordOfIowa66 Жыл бұрын
@@johnsorge3034 - I understand your point. I have come to believe that marketing makes a bigger difference than actually good rules out there. Battleground WWII and Jagdpanzer are far better rules than Bolt Action or FOW/TY and yet here we are.

What an odd list. The presentation makes me think that most of these games were never played by the narrator. Not really helpful for someone truly interested in tank combat board games. (The gross omissions have already been mentioned.)
