I've heard of the Redwall series using a lot of food descriptions in the books. I think that first trope is just having an emphasis on how good the food is in whatever story? Personally I could take it or leave it. As for the Homogenous Species trope, I think Overly Sarcastic Productions did a good video on it, the trope being names "Planet of hats" I think.

I'll have to checkout that overly sarcastic productions video! It sounded like an interesting trope. I'm just not familiar with it. Same with amazing food. I just haven't really seen it anywhere?

Ooh boy! "pseudo-european medieval setting" sure is a difficult point to talk about, huh? I think it has a lot to do with how the way people tell stories changed drastically in the European space, especially in the 20th century. The transformation of Europe's political and economic landscape created a stark before/after contrast, that lends itself beautifully for storytelling, to the point where it doesn't even feel like you're talking about "Europe" when talking about Middle Earth or the forgotten realms, etc... Especially when writing/reading in English, non-english sounding names stand out very obviously from the rest of the text and it just ends up feeling like you're reading about *the* specific foreign culture that the author drew inspiration from, as opposed to "fantasy culture X"

Completely agree! This is much more insightful than what I said in the video lol. But you're right. It really is difficult to talk about if you like it

"Amazing food" is 100% a fantasy trope. How often are there vivid depictions of feasts in Hobbit & LotR or HP, versus, say blade runner (*) or DUNE (*) Do androids dream of electric sheep?

I mean you've got me there. I guess I was just thinking more of plot tropes. Also I could really recall a specific. Time that stood out to me. But you're not wrong lol

With the telepathy with animals, would the Eragon series count?
@libraryoflores2 ай бұрын
Yeah absolutely! The bound and the broken series has a very similar thing with a dragon, and I definitely include that

As an anime fan this was a fun watch because a lot of fantasy anime share these tropes and so it was a cool perspective difference. Especially scene in a tavern because I like them in anime as they are usually a break from the story.

That's the same reason I like it in fantasy novels lol. It's just a great entertaining break from the stories
