The irony of Veruca Salt is how different Julie Dawn Cole was from her. Veruca was a spoiled, only child with a wealthy(ish) father. Julie was a well mannered, second child of a divorced mother who lived in a poverty stricken neighborhood. And the only real confrontation she ever had was competing with Denise Nickerson for the affection and attention of Peter Ostrum. Though I don’t if you could call it confrontational. What’s more, she was often told by the director to be nastier. Clearly it didn’t come naturally to her.

@annalisasteinnes3 жыл бұрын
I think Jareth is what some people would call "chaotic neutral"--he isn't trying to be hurtful, he just doesn't follow the same moral code as humans that says "kidnapping babies so you can try to enthrall their older sisters is wrong".

I don't see him as villain. He fullfilled her wish and took Toby away, he gave her 12 more hours, he didn't treated Toby bad (probably even better then his family did... he actually spent time with him, cheered him up, made him laugh while his parents prefered to go to parties and his sister was so annoyed she wished him away)

Bugsy Malone is such an enjoyable movie. And that one song just means more the older I get: "We could've been anything we wanted to be and who's to say we didn't try?" Not the actual lyrics on the latter half but it's how I always sang it lol

I’d switch out “Feed Me (Git It)” with “Mean Green Mother from Outer Space”. “Feed Me (Git It)” was already from the original off-Broadway musical, whereas “Mean Green Mother from Outer Space” was an original song made directly for the film adaptation. And was the first one to be nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Song, as well as the first one with profanity to be nominated.

Sweet Transvestite is a phenomenal song (as are all of the songs from that show/movie) and is definitely the most iconic and referenced RHPS number after Time Warp, but I have to say that the whole Floorshow sequence takes the villain musical number prize for me. The sequence is a celebration of his triumph - think about it: he is the only villain out of all of the ones shown to actually succeed in persuading his "victims". No matter how you look at it, Brad and Janet are definitely swayed. Do you really see them just going back to being Sally Sweet and Johnny Goodboy? No way!

@tmf8663 жыл бұрын
I didn't remember him from that movie, I knew his name because I saw him on broadway in 1980 in "Barnum" with Glenn Close. He got the part because he showed up for the audition, tripped on the curtain, fell down, picked himself up, and never stopped singing the whole time. Once during a performance he broke an arm in act 1 and finished the show before he let them take him to a hospital. The man is incredible, and deserves a lot more stardom than he got.

Annie alone has so many potential candidates for this list. Not only does Carol Burnett kill it with "Little Girls", but "Sign", her duet with Warbucks, is also great. And speaking of the legendary Tim Curry, it's a crime not to mention his role as Rooster and the amazing number, "Easy Street". So I'm mentioning it.
@sparrowflyaway3 жыл бұрын
There's some pretty epic villain songs in Dr Horrible's Sing-along Blog, though which of the two candidates you define as the "villain" and which is the "hero" is very much questionable XP Also, Labyrinth was childhood, so Magic Dance is going to be in my head for a while XP

I have had a crush on David Bowie since, well forever and have thought about having a Labyrinth-themed wedding, so Majic Dance is definitely a favorite, but I also really love how Across the Univers depicts the draft using "I want you" it also reminds me of how lucky my generation is that America no longer has the draft and keeps me thankful to the military personal. So it's a tie between the two songs.
