"The Room Where It Happens" is a great villian song because you can see and hear Aaron Burr turning rigid and resentful towards everyone...including Hamilton. I love love Jonathan Groff as King George III...but I never saw him as the true villian of Hamilton. Maybe the Revolutionary war...but not Hamilton's true adversary...who was Burr...sir!

I'm shock it's not the number 1 because if u think about it the women in cell block tango is not exactly evil that is if the audience agrees with their justification. The women can be proven "guilty" or "not guilty" depending on the audience's lenses. Meanwhile, in "you'll be back" the king never disguise his action in flowery words no justification just pure malice. I'm not surprise watchmojo chose cell block tango tho, it is a close second for me, but us theater kids know better.

I guess you are talking about hadestown and that's the myth... in the story of orpheous and euridice, he was the villain. he sent orpheous alone. And he is not even badly portrayed. He gets a semi-redemption (because the principal problem is that his marriage is in trouble. I don't know how to explain it. Hadestown is an amazing musical, and if you know the myth, you can get by just hearing the cast recording). Also if you hear the epics, you hear his story and it's pretty nice with him. Also... he is a representation of something bigger. EDIT: they don't speak about the kidnaping. in hadestown, he doesn't kidnap anyone... It's complicated.

@@avalasialove don't get me wrong, I love Patrick page! Immensely talented dude, his voice is absolutely made to play a villain. But when you have characters in the show that manipulate and push the person expected to be the villain towards certain decisions, then they're the real villians. I relistened to word to the wise, and honestly? The lyrics, harmonies, vocals, and imagery makes it, to me at least, the ultimate villain song in all of broadway, cinema, everything. Its actually perfect in that sense (and just in general, but i digress, I love hadestown). @@alessia-adams if you think JD is an antihero then you need to rewatch the musical. An antihero is someone who is doing something for good. JD’s acts were purely selfish and at times Narcissistic. He tried to blow up a school based on his experiences and did not listen to anyone else who tried to help him. (Spoiler) When he killed himself it can be seen in many different lights, but the one that makes the most sense to me is that he did this act as a way to be remember by Veronica as a hero or as you say antihero. I do not intend for this to be rude. Personally I believe “Meant to be Yours” should’ve have placed; that song gives me chills and is a fantastic villain song.

@@helenejapa I agree but the funny thing about mean girls is that any song sung by any mc (the plastics, cady, Janis and Damien) apart from sexy, I’d rather be me, apex predator and where do you belong (as well as a cautionary tale but I don’t really count that as part of the story) is a villain song sung by a villain because literally nobody in the show is good and it’s all based off them being horrible to eachother lmao Also I would like to remind anyone that cares that the entire plot of mean girls is based on Regina George not knowing that Lebanon was a country

I am going to assume based on the "no Anti-Hero," clause at the beginning that they are considering Javert as an Anti-Hero and not a full Villain like the Thenardiers. Javert isn't a villain. He's an antagonist, there's a difference.
@satine59753 жыл бұрын
@yoko38 first the vilain is the absolute challenge of the hero and the antagonist is there to test the hero if you read the novel written by victor hugo you will see that the Taverniers are just an minor obstacle to save causette and Javert is the enemi who constantly brings higher and higher battles. So the Taverniers are simple antagonistes and Javert is THE vilain of the Story. because he is obbsesded with god and Laws he thinks that what he is doig is Right but Jean Valgent has already paid for his crime so the fact that Javert keep harrassing and chasing Jean ValGent is not Right . Javert is in fact a member of the Darkside... so He is the « hidden » vilain. And Stars? Is the perfect song to illustrate this fact. A sweet and beautiful song with a fanatic message.

I would argue that Hades is more of an anti-hero than a villain. Still, I’m so happy they included one of his songs on the list! I love Hadestown and Hades is one of my favorite characters in the show. It’s a shame because almost nobody I talk to even knows about the show. Personally, I would have gone with either “When the Chips are Down” or “Word to the Wise” because the fates seem a lot more villainous than Hades, at least to me.
@l.n.3372 Жыл бұрын
I agree with you (Hades the character isn't a villain). But he's got a few songs in that awesome musical that are kinda ... devious, I guess I would say. You're right that the Fates are more villainous.

Lists like this make me wish they would put live Broadway shows on DVD. Especially when all of the shows were closed for the pandemic. They would make a lot more money than they would by only showing it live.

Great selection. I watched the entire thing wondering how Chicago missed mention. So many villains in that story, and every single one has a great song! Glad to see Chicago at number one!

The cool thing about the Sweeney Todd song is that both characters are villians. Funny for Les miserable, they didn't include any songs by Javert. Do they not think of him as a villian? I would of added the song when Javert tells valjea. That he'll always be a criminal.
@annamo93543 жыл бұрын
I don't see Javert as a villain. He is basically a cop who does his job by the letter. When Victor Hugo wrote Les Misérables he set it between the reign of Napoleon and Louis Phillipe I. France was in chaos then, no public stability, extreme poverty. That is also why Javert kills himself in the end. He realises that sometimes you have to let humanity prevail, but he himself couldn't do it.
@margegarland76353 жыл бұрын
@@annamo9354 well even he admits that he got over zealous and blinded by his hatred of prisoners like Valjean. it's the whole reason he committed suicide.
@augha3 жыл бұрын
Personally, I believe that the way this mentality turned Javert against literally everyone else makes him another miserable of society.
@hotspurre3 жыл бұрын
I think you're absolutely right, and was going to note that "Stars" really should have been on this list. Javert is not only the antagonist of the show, but he's an outright villain - for all his talk of how he upholds the law, he does not apply the law to everyone equally, and is much more likely to believe a rich person than a poor one (e.g, his treatment of Cosette.)
@margegarland76353 жыл бұрын
@@annamo9354 its sad that javert couldn't find a way to forgive himself, for not being the man he wanted to be, and felt suicide was the only way. we all make mistakes and i feel he could have found a way to redeem himself, if he hadn't been so hard on himself.

"Dentist", "Master of the House" and "You'll Be Back" win it for me. I saw a local theater production of Little Shop recently, and they put tearaway sleeves on the Dentist's scrubs, so when he hit the first "You'll be a dentist", the Ronettes ripped off the sleeves to leave him in a sleeveless scrub top, exceedingly tight leather pants, and motorcycle boots. Amazing.

If we’re being honest, When The Going Gets Tough from SpongeBob the Musical is a great villain song! Maybe I’m a little biased though, because I played Plankton when I did the show. It’s super upbeat and fun, and the speed rap after the dance break is so much fun to do!

Carrie’s mom’s song was a powerful and frightening, but the version of the soundtrack I heard had her voice fell short. However on the other side of the villains the world according to Chris really shows that Chris is the was the way she was towards Carrie because her father taught her either take people down or they will hurt her. It’s actually the other side of Carrie’s mom. Carrie’s mom told her that the world was bad, and she had to be protected from it both parents were wrong but Carrie was strong enough to resist until Chris gave into her father’s messed up view of the world
