I still watch the show and will until the end. I don't like nearly as many episodes as I used to. Season 22 was disappointing for me. I ended up liking 2 episodes overall. I thought season 23 was much better. The show has become predictable though. I liked when I couldn't predict what was probably going to happen.

The fascinating thing about the Kitty Genovese case is that we still study it in psychological settings and in social psych, because the bystander effect has been studied further and it IS real, but it's strange that it comes from a case where it actually wasn't in play - since it's not true that no one helped her.

The season 4 episode, "Damaged", and the season 6 episode, "Pure", both have elements of The Ken & Barbie Murders from Canada that were committed by former spouses Paul Bernado & Carla Hamulka. The season 9 episode with legendary guest star, Robin Williams, entitled "Authority", is based on the real-life Milgrim experiments. And, the season 16 episode, "December Solstice", is in part loosely inspired by the events surrounding the death of legendary radio DJ and voice of Shaggy from the SCOOBY DOO cartoons, Casey Kacium, guest starring actress Marcia Cross.

@@pdubcentral That really was a great episode for the character Robin Williams played was soo good with the dark drama, it was a bit scary. My only complaint on that episode is that with the involvement of Robin Williams, Dick Wolf and the writers of the show easily could have expanded that story to create a 2 part episode special event.The only other role that Robin Williams did that freaked me out more than his SVU character was the character that he played in the 2002 film starring opposite Al Pacino, Insomnmia.

The gypsy and dee dee reference may also be right, but law and order actually referenced it earlier but made it a sub plot to the Michael Jackson style case. The little girl lying was actually not sick and the grandma was literally diagnosed with Munchausen

Just like Dee Dee, she didn’t know it was a lie, and it’s Muchhaussens by Proxy because she did it to someone else. Plain Muchhausens is when you do it to yourself. Also in that first episode, the girl didn’t kill the grandmother. In the episode mentioned, the girl kills her mother ( more like the Blanchard case ).

The slenderman one was hard to read about. That girl got lucky several times. Her two "friends" were originally going to kill her in her own home during a birthday slumber party. I think while she slept. They backed out of it though. Then (I think the next day) they went out to play and stopped at a park. In the bathroom, the "friends" try to see if they could knock her out by hitting her head against the wall. It doesn't work and they play it off like they accidently hit her or something along those lines. Then they finally decide to kill her in the woods. Poor girl got uncomfortable, but they managed to get her out there. Then they forced her to lie down when she didn't want to. Of the many times they stabbed her, according to the doctor, one stab came within a hair's length away from a main artery in her heart. If they would have hit that, she would have died within minutes if not less. Then after leaving her for dead, she manages to crawl out of the woods and a biker just happened to be passing by. Watching the tapes of the two "friends" after they are caught very shortly after walking down the highway, is disturbing. They could have cared less and one was dancing and playing. Then the shock on their faces when they realized the girl had survived. They tried to act and claim innocence, but it was very obvious they wanted her dead and were surprised that she was still alive. The poor girl has so much trauma now and sleeps with scissors under her pillow. I am not sure what happened at the end of the case, but I think both of the "friends" ended up in jail.

There's a lot more that's scary about the David Reimer/John Money episode -- like what John Money's legacy has become today, without _anyone_ seeming to realize who it's come from. Also, the girls who attempted to kill their friend in the 'Slenderman' case weren't doing it to become "proxies." In reality, one of the girls was schizophrenic, and the other was a psychopath who manipulated the schizophrenic girl with stories of Slenderman, using her like a weapon in an attempt to kill their mutual friend.
@kingkommo-o3621

I'm surprised gender is considered something valid when Money lied about the experiment being successful. You'd think that lying about your unethical and inhumane experiment methods to prove a theory would invalidate it. You'd think two men committing suicide as a result of the psychological trauma inflicted by the experiment would make people open their eyes, but i guess people would rather take sweet lies over bitter truths.

There are at least two that you left off the list: season 6, episode 4, "Scavenger" was inspired by the BTK case, and exactly 5 seasons later, season 11, episode 4, "Hammered" was inspired by the George Tiller murder. Both real-life cases happened where I live, in Wichita, Kansas.

One of my absolute fav. tv shows ever. We know what we're getting ourselves in for from day one. . We have all noticed how some shows bare more than a little close to real crimes. that's what makes it more interesting. The Tv Shows people try to make it easier for us to understand what happened in the real crimes. and gives their points of view. I find it very interesting. and I love watching re runs of old shows. and catching up on one's I unfortunately missed the first time round. Great shows like this become part of every day life. like ALOT of brilliant tv shows over time have.

The first one made me think of season18 episode 9. The victim was drugged with quaaludes & they initially thought the young man who gave her the drink assaulted her but it was in fact his grandfather who secretly laced the drink with quaaludes & assaulted her. It later comes out that the young man’s father is estranged from the grandfather because years ago he did the same thing to the young man’s mother (and despite her husband standing by her, the trauma & turmoil led to their divorce). They didn’t tell him before because they wanted to spare him the trauma but didnt think he’d do it again

I’m not sure if this video mentions anything but the episode “Born Again” tackles the Candace Newmarker case, as well as another one I’m not familiar with. I knew about that case when I was pretty young, from watching Game Theory. I was horrified when I watched the episode when I realized that it was rebirthing therapy which killed the girl. As someone who is adopted and has an abusive mother…Candace’s case haunts me. So many other True Crime Cases don’t affect me, but Candice’s is enough to make me need to take a break and force myself to consume more wholesome content

While I do not about the specific case that inspired Torch .I do know of 2 cases from the early 1990s where 2 men faced the death penalty for Arson /murder. In both cases they said they were innocent and the fires were accidental. In 1 case the procacuter enlisted the help of fire experts to prove he was lying ,instead they proved he was telling the truth .the other a fire expert independently decide 5o prove one way or the other .it was proven that on was also accidental. These cases put into question the previously thought tried and true methods of determining ARSON and led to the reopening of several cases and the exoneration of several inmates ,including death row inmates

This is a good video mojo, and i'm glad i didn't see a certain episode on here. I don't mind them being inspired by real event and basing the episode around a similar story. It does annoy me when they say they do it to "spread awareness" around the supposed crime by telling everyone the events of the episode don't compare to what really happened. This is what they did for the one inspired by Gamergate stuff, and most of the stuff, like rape and terrorism, never happened. One of the main things was people and incels being mad that a dev had sex with someone high up so they would promote her game. There's a lot too it, but it was long ago and i don't want to get it all jumbled up. I just hate how they turned the entire thing into this HUGE crime spree that never happened, and said the real event was somehow worse. I don't know why im still salty about it. Probably because the women involved are actually awful scam artists who never got repercussions and even lead to someone's death, but that's just my problem since I don't want people to forget.
