@erinsbooks I can get it, because Joey is a big brother to several sisters, meaning he's used to being a caregiver (not saying sisters=Rachel). So with Rachel living with him and taking care of eachother, it was a mix of having a friendship, vulnerability and care that enabled him to fall in love. They could have written it better but that's how I see it

The most powerful moment to me is when Janice, a new mother, is talking to an pregnant Rachel in the hospital and stresses that it will be just her and Emma from now on. Trying to scare Rachel into seeing what being a single parent would be like.

For me the whole Phoebe storyline hits hard. I've never had to go through SUCH a difficult, traumatising time, but she did and it was crazy how she came out like this, a lovable character who's SO strong and still positive and optimistic. I love all her quirks, I ADORE the fact that she found someone who can match her... someone like...Mike. I am so immensely proud of her and she's just my favourite character. I've also had a pretty rough childhood myself, and I mean I'm still basically a minor so it's still not great but yeah. Phoebe inspires me. She truly deserves all the great things she got. ❤️

I'm so glad Friends brought up the big difference in money that your friends can have. Most of my friends are not as well off as myself, and it's a difficult journey for both sides when someone is struggling. My advice, dont be the savior they are not asking for. Instead, be there for your friend when they need you.

Agree with most of the picks. Would also add these: - Getting fired from a job, which happened to all of them at some point, except Chandler - Treating your kids differently, like the Gellers did with Ross and Monica - Having different beliefs and world views (like Phoebe and Ross), but learning to respect each other - Being bullied at school or work (happened to Monica, Ross, Chandler and Ben) - Unhealthy jealousy (Ross) - The challenges of long distance relationships (Ross and Emily, Monica and Chandler, Phoebe and David) - Having anger issues (Ross) - Fear of comittment - How healthy parental marriages affect the kids, versus unhealthy - Not having health insurance (happened to Rachel and Joey)
@lillianlyons3395 Жыл бұрын
How about tackling the issues of a parent who constantly puts down a child. Judy and Jack's treatment of Monica is horrendous. Not only breaking down any self confidence she may ever have had but so openly showing favoritism towards Ross. The worst was how they casually joked about how they spent her wedding fund because they never thought she was gonna need it. They were horrible parents and I honestly do not understand why Monica even considered naming their son after her father
@imapandaperson Жыл бұрын
Right!!! It was emotionally abusive, and they gloss over and made a cheap fat joke out of Monica's emotional eating to cope with the parental bullying instead of being open over how she grew up constantly picked on and criticized by her own parents

All though they are both terrible parents, Jack has been there for Monica whenever she has a crisis, unlike Judy.
@rossam9556 ай бұрын
Favoritism is not an uncommon issue in the family. It happens every time. Predilection for one child obviously can hurt the other children. But it is not an excuse for doing wrong but the opposite. Don’t hate Monica’s parents ! They never existed.
@allisoncastle5 ай бұрын
Unfortunately it’s not that uncommon for a child to be ab*sed like that and it to be completely brushed off. It used to be a lottt more common for terrible families like that to stay together instead of going no contact with them, compared to now, where in a lot of places, it’s actively encouraged to get away from terrible parents.
@crystalgemgirl7314 ай бұрын
Actually, I wouldn't say Jack puts down Monica, he genuinely loves her, he's just not that bright and a little oblivious. He HAS shown that he cares about her, like when she was depressed about Richard he came all the way to comfort her.

Even if they had been broken up, sleeping with someone that night is kinda shit. It gives the impression that he'd been cheating/wanted to cheat while they were together. And they weren't broken up! Balancing your career and relationships definitely should’ve made the list. Rachel finally found her calling in life and as much as she supported Ross in his career he was horrible to her and never showed her any support. The only time he showed interest was out of jealousy and don’t even get me started on the picnic at her job like COME ON. Also Monica choosing not to move with Chandler to purse her dream job was an interesting but very realistic twist. Luckily it worked for them so that’s all that matters but long distance relationships are not for the weak.

You say Ross was the problem with the work life balance but Rachel was truly not balancing her career with her life at all. Her entire focus became her job. Of course Ross was hurt and frustrated. Most people would feel like he did. On top of how unhealthy it is for a person to work nonstop and not have a life outside work, you cannot make a relationship work without talking or spending time together. He did the picnic, as stupid as it ended up being, because it was their anniversary and Rachel chose to work instead. I think anyone would be pissed if their partner CHOSE to work on their anniversary.

Ross is really a overhated character for me. Many point out his mistakes and bad things, even though many of what he does are good things. Like he never complained that the division of custody of Ben was unfair just because he thought this was what was best for Ben, then that he tried to be okay about Joey dating Rachel even though it was clear he wasn't okay because even Joey knew how he felt to Rachel and knowing that Ross still and will always love Rachel, and how he bought Phoebe a bicycle because Phoebe had never tried riding a bicycle before and many others.

I feel like the Richard thing should've been more about age gap relationships. Richard wasn't so much against kids because he had them (though it was part of it) as he did not want to start living kidfree life until he was 70. And honestly, Richard being Monica's dad's best friend since Monica was a kid made the relationship yucky. And it was something only Ross brought up once or twice but was ignored. Similarly how Ross brought up it was unfair he was expected to be okay with Carol and Susan because it was still cheating and he was left for Susan. If Susan was a man it wouldn't have been seen that way. Instead of having any conversation, the writers went with a "she'd be a bad lesbian if she was with a man SIKE" joke.

I never really got into “Friends” until it has already been on for 4 or 5 years but for me it was a show that sometimes wasn’t afraid to “push the envelope” with some issues like gay marriage and surrogacy even if it did a lighter take for comedic value.

I think the ‘on a break’ situation comes down to the fact that Ross stormed out without them establishing what being on a break meant. Rachel shouldn’t have let Mark in to the apartment which let Ross get the wrong idea. They’re both at fault but Ross ultimately should not have slept with someone else 🤷♀️

"On a break" is like taking time off from each other, like a vacation. "Breaking up" is they are no longer seeing each other. In my understanding, "on a break" means Ross and Rachel were still a couple but taking a break from seeing each other. It does not mean they could start dating other people.

I honestly believe that it's important for a non trans audience to see the differences of the ways trans communities are portrayed... watching different shows and how they deal with less generic topics or individuals.

Question: Why was Rachel's mother at Carol and Susan's wedding? For that matter, why were Rachel, Phoebe, Chandler, and Joey there?

Well the most serious issue to be noted is the passing away of some of the greatest characters on and off camera, but mostly off camera whether they are the main cast, recurring or special guest appearance. Like in the form of Gunther (Michael James Tyler), Mr Treeger (Mike Hagerty), Dr Leonard Green (Ron Liebman) and more importantly Chandler Bing (Matthew Perry). It still hurts even to this day and I don't say this enough but may they rest in peace, also to the other actors/actresses that made appearances in the show.

Ross is garbage for sleeping with copy girl, but it's important to note that he thought Rachel was jumping into bed with Mark that night..it never wouldve happened otherwise.

Monica went through so much pain. 💔 She’s definitely the strongest. (Painful brakeup and that she couldn’t have a baby… why you’re so cruel to her 😭😭)

I keep hearing (mostly on this channel) that they didn't handle Chandler's dad properly and it isn't so. I think that children of trans people get a pass on "misgendering' them. I'll have to watch the series again but I'm almost certain that Chandler uses feminine pronouns to reference Helena but it's not malicious when he calls this person Dad or slips and uses masculine identifiers.

Ross never cheated on Rachel. A “Break” is short for “Break up”. She broke up with him. You don’t get to pause any relationship. It’s a teenager’s daydream to imagine that you can.

I think the Chandler's dad storylines get more flack than necessary. Yes, they should have had a transgender person playing the character to be fully inclusive, but I never saw it as making fun of the character, but how Chandler handled it in his own way - through self-deprecating, dry humour, like other difficult aspects of his life. We're always seeing the character through Chandler's perspective, not really our own.
@nikkievans9183 Жыл бұрын
Totally agree. I think the fact that you seen chandler go through the internal struggle of the whole situation with his parents, to becoming accepting and understanding of Helena shows a remendous amount of personal growth for a character that, early in the show, clearly wasn't in touch with his emotions. Not to mention Monica's part in the storyline. Helena as a character did carry some amount of comedic targeting, but in my view, no more so than any other character on the show.

😮😮Rachel having Mark in her apartment when Ross called her means that they were on a break. I mean, the one man in the entire planet that should not have been there.

My ex is currently living with me and sleeps on the couch. Today actually would have been our 21 year anniversary! But…we ended up homeless in 2016, and then he realized he was happier as a woman. We got divorced. Now, she has a long term relationship and is about to move into her own apartment! Life is funny… Definitely no one told me life was going to be this way!

If Phoebe and Mike got married then how come Mike was not with the group or mentioned much, especially the last episode when everyone left the apartments? Here's to hoping plenty of good things to to a passionate girl who as this video says "Sees life as amazing a worth treasuring"

I read somewhere that Paul Rudd (who played Mike) didn’t want to be front and center, since it was the last season. As much as the audience loved Mike, the last season needed to focus on the six friends and tying up loose ends on their stories.
