Trina Q, when Robin Williams passed away, I was in shock and disbelief. However, when I rewatched all of his old interviewers, I saw a profound sadness, now better known and understood as Depression, in his eyes. When other celebrities have passed away, I felt bad for their family members and friends, but this, this was the first time I felt bad for my generation. My mom’s (The woman who with her husband began the children’s home where I was raised.) great grandson got to meet him. At the time, he had no idea who Robin was except for the voice of ‘Genie’ in “Aladdin”. I say, “At the time” because her great grandson was only about preschool to early elementary school age. Of all of his work I’ve seen, I enjoyed all of it. I fell in love with “The Crazy One’s”. R.I.P., Robin. We still miss you down here.

What about Morgan Freeman in "The Lego Movie"? In the scene where all the master-builders are gathered in Cloud Cuckoo Land, Morgan Freeman's character, Vitruvius, says "Alright. You gotta write all that down, 'cause I'm not gonna remember any of it, but here we go." Freeman was actually getting frustrated at the producers for changing his lines. They decided to just use that quote instead of his real scripted line.

I know! While I love the ‘Be our Guest’ reference, I was a little miffed when they didn’t do the impromptu luau. But then again, the main reason why ad-libs are funny is that they’re so one of a kind that you can’t really do get the timing of execution right after it’s been delivered.

I remember reading somewhere that when somebody from the Archives department went to the script writers for "The Emperor's New Groove" for a copy of the script, they said "we have no script". So much of the movie was improvised by the actors that there was no official script. Another scene that was improvised in the movie was the scene between Kuzco (David Spade) and Pacha (John Goodman) as they were heading towards the restaurant, when they were discussing Kuzco's low blood sugar.

Top 3 (In my opinion): 1. Fiona's belch 2. Do the Hula 3. Bucky or Binky? Fiona's belch was the most unscripted animation moment on this list because the actress was drinking soda and she belched it out, which cause the actors to react while staying in character, that's completely unscripted and you don't see or hear those rare occasions often, which is why it is on top. Do the Hula was another famous and unscripted moment because it was a sneaking or diversion plan that the writers try to get the actors to make their own. When I heard it was unscripted, I was like "yup, this is a worthy contender for most unscripted!" because it is a famous scene. And the last one was unscripted by a kid actor and the argument scene was really good, especially with the corrections. The fact that Joaquin Phoenix missaid his name, and then Jeremy Suarez corrected him for the misname that was unscripted was quite funny.

As far as I am aware, Murphy has gone on record that he recorded his lines in isolation at his home studio and never recorded with Diaz or Myers at the same time. Same goes for Yzma's cat voice. Things like that are done in post production so I really doubt she actually heard how her voice will sound like before the movie was already released.

Also, "Osmosis Jones" is a very underrated movie, imo. I liked how it combined the realism and animated scenes, and I know there are others with the same methods, but I just find the creativity (and tbh, educational aspect regarding health and bacteria without involving any realistic gore or super grueseome stuff) super awesome. Plus let's be real...That villian was literally sick. :P

Glad that Brother Bear got in the Ranks for the Bucky not Binky scene :) . On of my other favorite stories from Dad is how much fun he had with Dave Thomas and Rick Moranis who voiced the two moose Rut and Tuke. Dad, who Directed Brother Bear (Aaron Blaise) says that 90 percent that is used in the movie is just their improv. They read the script just to get the situation and mood and then ran with it. The sound crew ended up forcing Dad out of the Sound Room because he kept laughing and ruining the takes.

I'm learning a lot from the animated films this is talking about. So many films that I grew up with as a child and now that I'm seeing this. This is some interesting. I miss Robin Williams, the 90s, the early 2000s. Those were the best times for animated entertainment.

My drama group has a reputation for improvising during shows, whether they know their lines or not. Stuff we do during practice often worms its way into the final productions. For example, in our production of Into the Woods, we were working on I Know Things Now, and the actress playing Granny jokingly started hacking at the actor playing the wolf with our prop knife. We found it hysterical, so the directors just had her chopping away at our wolf throughout the whole song. Another gem was our entire production of Hamlet. Horatio making faces at the audience ala The Office whenever Hamlet continued to be insane, Ghost King Hamlet bringing a Starbucks cup onstage for no reason, Laertes cracking stupid puns during the fencing match… we had a great time. I’m very excited for our next production and am waiting in anticipation for all the chaos that will unfold during Peter Pan.

It's nice to see how voice acting for animations evolved from strictly by the script to allowing actors to record together and ad lib as they go.

A few girls can do a Mort impression pretty well, someone “Can you girls stop with the Mort voice it is getting annoying” Me “No, I just figured out that I can do a Mort impression!”. We all chimed in a Mort voice “I love you King Julain~” And “May I kiss your feet, King Julain~”. That’s what you get, from telling theatre girls to stop 😂

The telenovela gag in _Encanto_ is even better than the adlid, 'cause the original lady rat actor escapes and is immediately replaced by another lady rat actor, just like has happened in literally _every_ telenovela ever. xD

Hey, "Monsters, Inc." also benefited from more than one actor in the recording booth. Billy Crystal, at the start of recording, asked why he couldn't work with John Goodman there with him. They brought them in together, and…well, you see the results in the finished movie. There may not have been as many great lines in that as in some of these other movies, but I suspect they raised the movie up to another level.

This list is exactly why I love, admire and respect voice actors more than actors we see act out on screen. All they have is their voices to tell a story and knowing that very clearly more often than not, they get chances to ad lib makes me love the voice actors and their abilities even more. This was a fun list and I'm sure there's tons more examples outside of a top 20

"Baboom. Name's Hades, lord of the dead. Hi, how ya doin?" One of my favorite lines from Hercules. Hades has always been my favorite, but I grew up with the Dutch version. The actor voicing him (Pierre Bokma) also voices Genie in the Dutch version of Aladdin. Absolutely brilliant man.

Oh my God, Eldorado is and always has been my favorite movie of all time, because of the duo Tulio and Miguel! I mean, I have seen that movie so many times that whenever I see it, I can quote almost every line in the movie, which many find irritating if I watch it with someone😂 I mean, even as a kid I saw the chemistry between these guys and thought they were hilarious- hence the reason for me to watch it over and over again. I even had a period of time where I would watch the movie twice in 1 day, and then watch it again where I skipped to my favorite parts, and this was not just for 1 day, I did this same routine every day for maybe 1-2 weeks because I was obsessed with it! It really is a masterpiece for me😂😍🥰

Surprised Disney robin hood didn't make the list, cause it was suppose to be set originally in the wild west, and a lot of the lines were adlibs since a lot of the cast were western actors. Love to see a list of adlibs in cartoons shorts and shows, there was rumer Mel blanc ad lib quite a bit. Especially as Sam.
