I don’t have any problem with the ending of 'Remember Me'. I love the whole movie including the ending. It shows father-son bonding through struggle to be in a same page with each other, brother-sister bonding in every single situations, friendship and romantic relationship. And at the end, it seems a real tragedy. In our real life, we don't get any warning before a tradegy. It gives the idea that thousands of people died in that tragedy and I think that's what the film is highlighting. This is just one person's story. And life is beautiful till death, we just have to appreciate it and make it work with family and friends. And the movie, there is a lot references that explained that the movie is set in 2001, like they were watching 'American Pie 2' in the theatre, then when they meet the cowgirls from Miami, the roommate goes on and on about NY being the greatest city, and after the harassment in the alley, the drunk women yell that they hate New York, also the professor also talks about terrorists attacks. And when the date on the board poped up, there was a sence to understand what was coming. So if you watch carefully, there were lots of 'hints' like this throughout the movie.

@@mcmandy086 sure, that's logical thinking. But that isn't logically *creative* thinking. Yes, pianos do fall on people, its happened, it's been recorded. But at least we were left with no remorse. Just sadness of the "what if". And it helped us to reflect on our own lives. Its creative choices like that which evoke deeper introspection. That's the difference.
@TKitty-pp6gh3 жыл бұрын
@@mcmandy086 No, that would have been just silly. However, since 9/11 was a real tragedy that affected so many people, it was trying to remind people that the thousands of people that died that day were real people who had hopes and dreams and unresolved angst. Sometimes we tend to gloss over a tragedy like that in our minds as a "national tragedy," but this film implores you to think about each individual person that lost their lives that day and the deep pain it created for everyone who lost people.

That wasn't a twist. In fact, all they did was test-screen 9/10 of the movie and query the audience as to who they thought was behind it all and finished the movie with the character that was least picked. He wasn't picked because the story makes no sense if he's the guy orchestrating everything and the filmmakers were willing to sacrifice their story just to be unpredictable. A good WhoDunIt lets you play along, junior-sleuth style. You'd call out to your friends "I think Kobayashi did it all, and uses Soze as an anonymous legend to keep the heat off himself." Some of you will be right and get to feel smug about it. Now You See Me's method of delivering garbage in order to be unpredictable not only makes no sense, which is dissatisfying, but also robs the audience of that small pleasure. But I wasn't trying to figure out who the guy in the hoodie was anyway, because it wasn't presented as a WhoDunIt, and I'm pretty sure no-one in the movie was trying to figure it out, either; they were just trying to pass the tests to get into the magic society. And the rest of the movie was riddled with nonsensical plotholes, but this thread is about surprise endings. An actual surprise ending would be if Woody Harrelson was the guy behind it. He was using real magic throughout the movie (that is NOT how post-hypnotic suggestion works), he appears to be a bit older than the rest, he'd be keeping a close eye on the three real initiates, he gets to deny everything if questioned ("Hey, I'm just as in the dark as the rest of you!"), and all he had to do was hire a currier to deliver the invites -- making sure to send one to himself, just in case the others might've noticed.

It didn't just kill every character I loved but was threatening to deviate from the book and change the ending. So the vision revelation blow me away. Not only did the ending stay true to the book but it gave us a epic fight scene that had me sitting on the edge of my seat on the verge of tears. I also loved the ending of Remember Me. It's ironic that I watched it because I was a Twihard but the only thing I didn't like about the movie was Rob. I thought it was really well written and did a great job at telling their story. I really appreciate the set up, focusing more on the character just living his life than 9/11. The people who died in the Twin towers were also just people living their lives. The ending wasn't surprising to me though. The foreshadowing of the first scene being set in NY 1991 and then jumping to 2001 gave it away. The way I saw it, why would a film be set at that time if it wasn't going to be about September 11, 2001?

The surprise of the battle scene was desperately needed even if it was just...the work of Alice. There was a definite cry of "Wtf???!!!!" in the theater when I saw it but for me I just felt relief. It would have been better if they had done a GC work along the lines of Cats Don't Dance or Zootopia. That's another bad adaptation I'll rant about, right under The Last Airbender liveaction. Don't get me stared on that one. And it doesn't matter if the ending has a narrative or not to be counted as bad. Just about the only time a narrative is used is to tie up loose ends the ending leaves about the plot if it doesn't solve them visually. A few here didn't have a narration with the ending. The Indiana Jones one doesn't. In fact, none of the Indy movies has any narration in them. Last Crusade shows you what happens to the Goblet. Raiders shows you what happened to The Ark, which its crate made a comeback in Crystal Skull's opening as a cameo. They make sure you see it as it's visible long enough.

H G Wells was writing about how advanced civilisations inevitably destroy less advanced ones. He took an existing style (known as the 'England Invaded' style, look up 'The Battle of Dorking') and made it about what we did to the Chatham Islanders, or the Madagascans, or the Tasmanians, or the New Zealanders, or almost all native Americans. The Martians moved too quickly for normal political decision-making (the British Politicians ordered the Royal Navy up the Thames river to defend the centre of London where they were, and the Navy rightly refused and mutinied), and had a ranged weapon that humanity could only match at great cost (a gun battery and it's men and horses to defeat one Fighting Machine, a fast cruiser to defeat three FMs stupid enough to get into shallow water, the Royal Navy Channel Fleet is then wiped out by black smoke spread from a flying machine). He also showed the complete religious and moral failure of the church in the character of The Clergyman, and the book's end of the tiny disease that the Martians have no defence against is nothing to do with 'the tiniest things that God put upon the Earth' and everything to do with that it's usually disease that wipes out those less-advanced peoples I was mentioning. Even that is described as being because the Martians are actually degenerating and are unable to adapt to new pathogens

Gerard Butler’s character did sort of win because his goal in the movie was to show that the legal system doesn’t work, which he accomplished when he made the cops break the law to catch him. I think it would be fair to say he wanted to die anyways based on the final scene with the bracelet.

I disagree... I think it's entirely within the tone of the series. In fact, Indy seeing the UFO rise in front of him is almost a book end to Indy seeing the nuclear blast in the beginning. It's almost framed the same way. Almost like it's the end of an era for Indy, his time has passed (a theme that permeates the whole movie) and a new age has come... With spaceships and world obliterating weapons. It's almost poetic. I could even say... It rhymes.

A lot of people talking about the ending of Superman and how it is a bad ending, miss the point of that scene and following events. It's not about him reversing time to save Lois, it's more about the conflict he has within himself about who he really is and does he, in fact, interfere in human history. If you watch the scene you can see him in the clouds remembering both the words of his Kryptonian father and the words of his earthly father. He always felt guilty that he could not save his earthly father from his heart attack, this concept is important because we learn that there are things that Superman cannot do, or things he cannot save people from, hence he is not all powerful and has certain vulnerabilities. In this moment in the clouds you learn just how much he loves Lois, he does not want to lose her like he lost his earthly father. He is also torn because he knows that he has to let certain events play out and cannot interfere, these feelings stem from the words of his Kryptonian father, he cannot interfere in certain situations, and he has to be careful when to interfere and when not to, he is not God, but someone there to help humanity, when he can, he cannot save everyone, in fact the main reason he was sent to earth was to inspire others to do good, not always to save them but to help them save themselves. Superman in this instant goes against his better judgment to save Lois because of how much he loves her, but we also learn from this scene that this isn't something he should or would ever do again, he knows that this is a one time occurrence. This is actually one of my favorite scenes in all of the Superman movies/stories, because in a small amount of time we learn so much about the Man of Steel, the conflict he has within himself, the pure and true love he has for Lois, and that he is more human than we realize. Is it possible to reverse the rotation of the earth to turn back time, of course not, there are so many things I could point out in this movie that are absolutely absurd, but there's a bigger picture here within the original Superman movie than all the things that are "physically impossible", there are lessons to be learned both about Superman and about ourselves. WatchMojo says that the ending to Superman is one of the worst, I can respect that opinion, but to me it's actually a wonderful ending to one of the greatest movies of all time, and definitely the best Superman movie ever made, IMO. Just my 2 cents on the matter.

The final SAW movie was meant to be a 2-part finale, but because SAW VI did so poorly at the box office they truncated it down into a single movie. They basically smashed two scripts of traps into one movie and took the bones of a story and spread it out. The original idea, from what I remember the writers talking about, was that SAW VII was going to focus on Bobby Dagen's test, the one we already see. A Jigsaw "survivor" that never actually was in a trap. Exploiting it for financial gain. The end of that one was supposed to reveal Dr. Gordon's return. Then SAW VIII was going to be Dr. Gordon hunting down Hoffman. It was something like that. But again, because SAW VI was financially received poorly, they had to do away with those plans. And the Love Triangle trap at the beginning was going to be revealed as happening in the past, where we would eventually see Dr. Gordon and John Kramer (Jigsaw) watching from a distance. The two guys that survive that opening trap, Brad and Ryan, would then be recruited by Gordon. Hence the 2 other pig-masked individuals near the end of saw 3d. Those were intended to be Brad and Ryan. saw 3d is an abomination, truly. It took everything we loved and screwed it up completely. Not to mention the disgusting feeling of misogyny that is threaded throughout. It's just horrible. SAW is my favorite franchise of all-time, and I love it to death. But saw 3d I hate so much. Anyways. Just a little context for saw 3d.

It's a shame Saw VI did so poorly as the premise and motivation is one of the better directed ones and one that would hit home to a lot of Americans with our cherry-picking healthcare system. It's definitely my 2nd fav of the franchise. That carousel trap still haunts me.

I don’t care what anyone says but the ending to Remember Me is one of the most under appreciated movie endings of all time....the theme and messsage was in the title itself “Remember Me” the whole movie was leading to the inevitable conclusion that was ending. Everything Robert Pattinson went through in that movie came to a happy conclusion then disaster strikes as we zoom out from the window and we realise he is in the world trade centre and we realise that the day is September 11th 2001 I’m getting chills thinking about it...throughout the course of the movie we are unknowingly witnessing this guys last couple of weeks/days of his life on Earth...it’s a devastating story and it’s an all too real ending that actually happened...I mean in all of the events in the movie that took place we should have thought to ourselves why is the title remember me? The writing was on the wall within the title itself. The message and symbolism of the movie was right there in front of you the whole time. It’s a deep rooted emotional movie that needs to be recognised more.

Re Planet of the Apes, it has plenty of logic. The writer himself had wanted to explain in the sequel that never came. He said the space anomaly they all travel through reverses the order people pass through. Which is why the chimp showed up after Leo even though Leo went through after the chimp. This also explains why the station they were in was a wreck on the planet even though it must have travelled through the anomaly after Leo and the Chimp. Therefore after the chimp and Leo head back home at the end of the movie, at some point several years afterwards Thade finds out how to travel into space and goes through the anomaly. Again time is reversed and so instead of landing on Earth after they do, he lands on Earth many years into the past, and changes its history.

Ok, I can buy into many of these, but to dis Into Darkness and Remember Me was a bit much.

So many people defending the end of Remember Me, but no - it was bad, flat out. Shock factor and sentimentality do not a good ending make. A good ending matches the themes of the movie as a whole and it is foreshadowed throughout - it must be earned. The ending of Remember Me was cheap and thrown in simply because so many people have so many emotions around 9/11 already that the movie could be lazy and not create its own emotional conclusion. It literally piggybacks off of a National Tragedy to force you to feel things.

Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull? This movie does NOT exist in my little world, what a horrific way to ruin a perfect trilogy. 🤢

“Shown by a dramatic reworked Abe Lincoln Memorial.” You had Ape Lincoln right there, and you DIDN’T take it?

lol to say Secret Window's ending was horrible is to say that Fight Club, The Machinist and Memento's endings were all trash because they are all the same

One notable omission for me: Law Abiding Citizen. Unlike some of the movies on this list (hello The Happening) Law Abiding Citizen had a great concept and was a terrific movie completely ruined by its last 15-20 minutes. Should have made the list and, honestly because the first 80% of the movie was so good, I’d argue it should be in the top 10.

The Devil Inside was probably the movie that started the “January horror movie curse”. Funny thing is MTV’s Jersey Shore actually promoted it.

The final chapters of Breaking Dawn were actually some of the best of the entire series. However, they were all talking... SUPER BORING. So, much like Deathly Hallows, they needed to add some thrilling action, that deviated from the books. Both endings drove book fans insane. Yet both were honestly pretty freaking epic.

The fact that whoever put this together thinks they "shoehorned in" 9/11 to remember me says they didn't actually pay attention to the movie. They drop hints throughout the whole movie. The dates in the beginning (Brooklyn NY 1991- ten years later), the talk about the world trade center attacks..

For planet of the apes, I got the impression he entered a parallel universe where the apes and human universes were switched. Cuz why would they changed the Lincoln memorial to an ape? Did apes go through the exact same thing? Only if there was a parallel universe. Just my opinion tho.

I actually thought that the Twilight battle was a move of genius by the director. Literature and Motion Pictures are two different art forms: in literature, the author creates scenes in the readers' imagination, and in the movies, the action takes precedence over narrative. Here the director simply fleshed out the moment where Alice in the book was able to prevent the battle from taking place, all while taking the audience on an emotional roller-coaster ride.
