1. Slower is always heavier than speed 2. Down tuning sounds better in metal 3. Breakdowns , simple riffs (expect solo) great catchy hooks and great songs are key to groove metal or influence of the genre 4. If you don't have these characteristics in you're music you are not groove metal

They are the true founder of the genre. Now if you tell that to other metal fans they will talk you're ear off about exhorder however the 1990 albums of both bands are different pantera has a unique playing style that is defining to groove where as exhorder has more focus on complexity and speed akin to thrash. It wasn't until exhorder album the law 1992 where they really slowed down and by that time pantera had released VDOP which literally killed thrash metal and reinvented it. No longer was thrash about speed and complexity. It is about slow heavy simple riffs with complexity only in solos accompanied by very slow very heavy breakdowns which replaced the mosh part heard in 80s thrash metal. Making pantera more important to the groove genre and putting a boot on the neck of thrash metal taking the place as the most influential genre of modern metal like nu metal metalcore modern hardcore deathcore nu metalcore and many more to come. Pantera and the influence of groove metal is far beyond stronger than all.

Well sometimes they wish to experience or even go for a groove metal and see if it's good, great example would be Joey being Anthrax Thrash and John being Anthrax Groove

Anthrax had a lot of groovy songs in the 90's just like Slayer, but Angel of Death has nothing to do with groove.

Glad to see some recognition that trad and thrash bands made the first groove metal songs before bands like Pantera really defined it as a distinct genre

Angel of Death is Thrash
@finewine256xx3 жыл бұрын
Its a good song but its not groove metal and when I think of heavy angel of death is the opposite. It is more focused on speed and complexity which is opposite of what groove metal is about. Groove metal is concrete crushing low slow riffs with much heavier breakdowns that could crush the entire solar system that is a far cry for what I can say about black and thrash metal. Speed is the opposite of heavy I get so annoyed by metal fans because they are quick to discredit metal bands for playing slow down tuned simple heavy riffs but call fast paced bands heavy when they are not. Fact slow is always gonna be heavier than fast.

Maybe I don't know what groove metal is, but IMO most of these are not. What about Thunderkiss 65, Foxy Foxy, Dragula, all from Zombie, and about a dozen others from Pantera that are NOT 5 minutes alone, such as Regular People. Groove metal makes you MOOOVE, not just headbang.

Groove metal is by far more influential than any other subgenre. Literally look at all the modern metal genres today that have down tuned guitars slow heavy simple riffs and earth crushing breakdowns that influence is in fact the work of pantera and the power of groove metal. Groove metal conquered thrash metal as the most influential to genres that actually matter to the young generation such as 1. Nu metal 2. Metalcore 3. Modern hardcore 4. Deathcore 5. Nu metalcore all 5 of these subgenres are of course discredit by beta metal nerds however loved by next gen metalheads giving much needed life to the metal scene. Also the 5 subgenres are more than likely to have higher album sales now I don't know about you but I am a math guy which means that numbers and results speak louder than beta metal critics literally if people in prog/black metal crowd actually put effort into making music people enjoy while staying true to what they want they would likely have success and happiness but instead of self improvement they would rather blame the masses for having bad taste than to get to work on they're band and music that is why the 5 subgenres will always be more likely to succeed and grow until the scene falls under its own weight spawning a new subgenre
