@@umaydoruk4526 Thx for the suggestion, I will have a look. I agree, sadly far too many horror games use cheap tactics such as jumpscares and gore instead of actual ambience and atmosphere. Did you play Alien Isolation btw? Probably my favourite horror game for just these reasons.

Damn dude, This is a real list. I agree strongly with almost all of these. I think I would give crystal project the best turned based category over chained echoes...but still chained echoes is a solid pick. I also think your missing monster sanctuary (best indie monster catcher rivaled maybe by cassette beasts). Other contenders I didn't see on your list (sticking to more recent games like you did) Animal Well for its joyous puzzling, and octopath 2 has to be a contender for the pixel art....Sea of stars was prettier but octopath redefined what HD2D was and brought us into a world of hd2d remakes. All in all though this list was top tier and represents why I love your channel so much. Keep it up! You should be 10x bigger.

Some of these would definitely be in my list too - Sea of Stars, Tunic, Islets. Hollow Knight would also have made it onto mine. Thanks for recommending Crosscode. I bought it on sale earlier this week and I'm 19 hours in. It is like discovering The Legend of Zelda or Secret of Mana for the first time. The puzzles are challenging but sometimes frustrating, but it feels awesome exploring and finding secret passages or characters with quests to do. This game is so worth the money.

My personal list: Crosscode - awesome combat and platforming elements Hyper Light Drifter - I Freaking love the pixel art and no dialogue story Sea of Stars - I like the platforming elements and gorgeous pixel art A short hike - A short but meaningful game Chicory: A Colorful Tale - Very unique Zero Sievert - My go to game for relaxation, easy to digest Rain world - Love the atmosphere and the AI is awesome! Eastward - love the pixel art! Cocoon - mind blowing! Chained Echoes - Awesome combat and story Moonlighter - Love the pixel art and the gameplay! Bloodroots- Awesome Fast paced action and one hit kill combat system (Haven't played the popular ones yet like Hollow Knight, Hades, Dead Cells etc.)

Eastward (loved the story and the visual style of the game), Swapper (great puzzle game with a dense atmosphere); Narita Boy (what an hommage to the 80s); Axiom and Shovel Night (great hommage to the 8bit area). Not sure if it still counts as Indie, but I really also enjoyed the Thalos Principle. It really tickled my brain solving these puzzles.

Im so happy to see crosscode at the #1 spot. Its such an amazing and fun game i legit couldnt stop replaying the game over and over again just to regain that thrill of combat and exploration and puzzle solving crosscode gets you. Also the dlc adds so much more to the game it should really be a part of the game because it adds the perfect ending Definetly my favorite indie game of all time. One thing you forgot to mention is all the amazing and fun bosses and quests this game has to offer

This is a very good list, very well thought out. One of the (many, many) failings of the video game scene is that most great indie games rarely see much publicity (outside of the regular indie news outlets, of course), so they pass by many gamers who might have loved those games. Hopefully channels like yours will help some people to discover such great games.

Noita , the best hard exploration sandbox rougelike ever You got very hard gameplay, very clever puzzles , the need to break the game over and over again with the amount of content and stuff you can do , the creativity, the most game that can replicate a wizard simulation I've ever seen and let's just say that i have over 5000 hours in game and i sometimes see in in community that you can do in game or the new things they discover from it that it drops my jaw every time

I disagree them being popular does not make them bad games Hades probably is the best action-Rougelike indie game ever made and putting Deaths Door there isn't doing any justice. think you're missing my point. I'm not mistaken here, I never said the games that I mentioned are bad, it's way out of my point. I commented about how well this video is to me because those games are the game that I never actually heard of from most of the majority videos there is talking about games recommendations, because every time I watch a video about it (e.g. roguelike) most of the time those games are the one who mostly appeared which is Dead Cells, Hades, Risk of Rain 2 etc. and I know those games are really great but I have I tried all of them, and that's why I'm glad to see a video that gives me new titles that are good too(I play some of the games in this recommendation and it's greatly underrated).

Death's Door and a lot of the games here have huge flaws, and I hardly believe even the guy who made the video actually thinks these are the best roguelike games. I didn’t say you meant that; I said Hades and all those games are the best at what they do-that’s why they’re on every list. A game being popular does not invalidate a list, and trying to add niche games just to be different is like naming the top 5 rappers but avoiding popular picks just to be different-it’s pretentious.

So glad Chained Echoes is getting more recognition. It came out when Sea of Stars was insanely marketed and it was easy to pick that one over this. But you shouldn’t. It’s surprisingly up there with the ranks of Chrono trigger and FFVII - not quite reaching those highs of course, but in the same ball game.

Holy shit. Crosscode??? I backed that game on indiegogo so many years ago and played the Alpha. Ive totally forgotten about it until you mentioned it in this video. Glad to hear that the game is a success.

I hope I get to make time to play all of these, although I feel intimidated as hell to get into JRPGs because I think they're just too complex and time consuming to me, what I most enjoy about sea of stars is its simplicity both in combat system and in build mechanics. Any advise going into crosscode?

My advise for CrossCode is that you can play the demo first and if you decide you want to play the full game then just take it slow. CrossCode is easy to divide into several story chuncks, so to speak. It is a Long Game (40-60h) but it's easy to stop and get back to it a couple days later. Also there's a dynamic difficulty setting which can make it easier to get through the game.

I wasn't aware of Death's Door, and will need to check that out at some point. I have a number of other games on this list, but Sea of Stars is the only one I've played. A few indie gems that I always recommend are Gorogoa for a puzzle game, To the Moon for a more interactive story than game, and Undertale for such a creative take on RPGs. And my outside pick is Venineth which just has wonderful worlds to get lost in for a while.

Man Tunic really does have an incredible soundtrack. If you ever get a chance you have to listen to the uncut soundtrack. Tons of great songs there.

Can't recommend Tunic enough. I would however lower the difficulty in the settings, its pretty unforgiving on normal difficulty. But its an amazing experience you can only get once from it.

Appreciate the movement category Its one thing about metroidvanias that turn me off is the feel and movement of most games. HK while at first doesnt feel great, the pogo plus the dash and everything combined makes the game feel fluid, where I find almost every other metroidvania recommended to me just feels sluggish and a bit cheap. Definitely going to check out some others on the list too! Though my fav indie game is definitely celeste. The movement and feel of that game is just too good to compare to anything else I have played (except for smash melee but thats an exception)

Great list. My top 10 in no particular order would be: Death’s Door FTL:Faster than Light Into the Breach Balatro Nine Sols Slay the Spire Hades Cocoon Olli Olli World Dead Cells Minishoot Adventures, Tactical Breach Wizards, and UFO 50 are definitely highlights from this year as well.

Man if you haven't played outer wilds and its dlc please go play it without spoiling it. It's my personal GOAT, and when the DLC came out I was so blown away by that second miracle I almost had a stroke. For me there's no topping Outer Wilds. I would also suggest "what remains of Edith Finch", that game is just pure gold

And explore like you would a FromSoftware game, hunting for Lore. You'll be rewarded with one of the best lores and plots in gaming history

There’s some pretty good games on this list. Only played about 10 hours of Moonlighter but it is pretty neat. Couldn’t really get into CrossCode; maybe I just need to give it another shot. Also been meaning to try Sea of Stars. For me my top 5 would be: 5. Celeste 4. Tunic 3. Enter the Gungeon 2. Hyper Light Drifter 1. Hollow Knight Easily some of the greatest games I’ve ever played. Actual masterpieces with little to no flaws. If I was making a Top 11 I’d add Shovel Knight, A Short Hike, Deaths Door, Katana Zero, Cave Story, and Animal Well.

(yeah, lack of time with my 70 games in my wishlist lol..) And I am right now in the end of Sea Of Stars 😍 first J-RPG for me since FF7 on PS1 when I was young ^^ My number one Indie Game is Hades license 💖 and in top: Ori, Lysfanga (really unique gameplay), Dicey Dungeons, Pyrene, Brotato, Celeste, Dorfromantik, GRIS and NEVA 🙏 (and a lot of Roguelike game but Hades is in my heart for ever and I come back to it often)

Cool video! And in coments i found a lot of good classic indi games like HK or Isaac. My favourite RPG game is Omori, and i confused that nobody wrote about it. Favourite adventure game - Outer Wilds. It is just beautiful. And as a rougelike - Dead sells.

I bought a Switch recently and beat some games that I would never play in big platforms. And one of that games is a gem of metroidvanias: ANIMAL WELL. The best exploration experience in games I've ever had. 20+ hours and I still not found every secret.

I agree with all comments and I would include Omori. It has excellent story (with some insane twists), surprisingly good gameplay and plenty secrets. Hard to believe it was made in Rpgmaker engine

Yes I love both Ori and Hollow Knight. Didn't make the list though. Ori and the Will of the Wisps is probably one of the best metroidvania I've ever played but I didn't consider it an indie game, since it was published my Microsoft. Othwerwise it would probably be in the top 5

Hollow for me is amazing but definetly not one of the best, various aspects of the game made me quit it for more than a year now.
