I wholeheartedly agree with you concerning the inability of a gas grill to produce a real BBQ flavor. At best, it's a pale imitation, and at worst, an exercise in frustration.

Same here. I used to be exclusively gas, I thought charcoal was too much messing around. Due to taste I'm now 100% charcoal, gas did nothing for flavour.

Great video. I bought my Pit Barrel based on your which cooker to buy. I’d like to see you make a video cooking on the Pit Barrel.

That’s awesome David 😁 I’m planning to smoke a Brisket on the PBC during the next 2 weeks, keep an eye out for it 😁

Great tips. I used to rarely pull the gas bbq out as I didn't really know what I was doing other than cook it until it's nearly burnt and it should be done. Since jumping in the deep end with a Kamado Joe we've used it atleast twice a week for the last 8 months and we're now selling the gas bbq because it hasn't been used. Loving the food but also loving the learning new techniques and producing food that people enjoy. Thanks for the video.

Thats great :-) Almost the same story for me. I had a top end Weber Summit BBQ but bought a Kamado and Pellet Grill. Once I bought these, I ended up selling the Weber after 12 months of non use. Its a bit emotive telling people to move away from gas but my food is so much tastier with solid fuel :-)

Mate, those 3 things along with pit temp control has changed my life. An excellent vid for anyone starting out in the real BBQ world. Great video. Cheers.

Thanks 🙏 I spent a couple of drives to work last week thinking about what the 3 things would be. It was difficult at first but then became pretty obvious. My old bbqing skills were pretty awful, those 3 things have definitely made a huge difference to my bbq’ing and Grilling.

Mine too. I was like you, burning snags and rumps on a 4 burner lol. (you probably had a 6 lol.) The Aussie BBQ is a myth for the most part. I'll always be grateful to the good ole U.S. of A, for teaching me how to BBQ Right. The Yanks do a few things right and BBQ is one of them. Just to add to your vid, I have a gas fired Hark smoker with a decent firebox that works very well. Some of the stuff i've cooked on that was excellent.

Really good and useful video thanks, might look into a course to get into this properly

Awesome. Glad you found it useful :-) I am planning to do courses in Melbourne Australia next year but I expect that will be a to far :-) I'm sure there will be courses local to where you live, that's how I started my journey. A local demo from an American Pitmaster and I was hooked :-)

I did try to warn you in the intro text 😁 This is definitely for the beginner or those (like me) that only knew how to cook direct on a gas grill. Those that have a good grasp of BBQ, are not going to have a revelation but hopefully it helps people that are early in their BBQ journey 😁
