I kinda agree with most of the entries, especially the Forester but was shock when not 1 but 2 MINis were shortlisted. I think one require a certain amount of commitment and technical competency to really appreciate MINI they are not exactly easy to maintain. I was also puzzled no one mention any Skoda models, particularly the Kodiaq. It was a good continental 7 seater with a price that rivals the japanese. I thought it would make a good upgrade as jumping from a Japanese or korean car.

Once you start with SUVs, you just head for something bigger and faster. My personal choice 1) Subaru Forester / RAV4 / Tucson 2) Kia Sorento / Mazda CX-9 / GLB (5+2) 3) XC 90 / Land Rover Discovery HSE not the 5+2 4) X7 / GLS

My 3 choices 1) Skoda Octavia 1.4 (but the RS 245 if you can afford it) - Good sedan with ample space 2) Citroen Grand C4 Spacetourer - 7 seater for the times when you need it 3) Seat Leon sport tourer - extra space for the family Cheap road tax for all 3 choices 😁

Agreed with Jon's 1st pick. At age of 35+ you should drive something sporty! Can't wait till you are old! My first car was a Japanese 4 door sedan. Thought its practical and could fetch family and friends with it. But as turns out, throughout the 9yrs of ownership, 90% of the time the back seats is empty! So my current ride is a 2 door coupe! Was quite sad no one choose it. How about top 5 dream car next round? Order by most realistic to almost unrealistic. Might be an inspiring goal to achieve it!

My choice will be 3rd - Hyundai Tucson ($113,999) 2nd - Citroen Grand C4 SpaceTourer ($115,999) If really have to buy a MPV, gotta be comfortable. 1st - Volvo V60 ($142,000) drive very well and looks good.

Great video but I think it's individual preference for ppl who like to try out conti car for first upgrade, Citroen and Peugeot is a nice start. They are using engine from bmw which had win awards...

But to be responsible, you three should also discuss reliability. That's important for a new family just starting out. No point getting a car only to be bogged down in car repairs and expensive servicing. That would make this video more connected to the practical and real-world aspects of car ownership. Safety is also important if you are ferrying your parents or children in this car, eg crash test ratings and number of airbags.

Tbh I think you guys should be consistent with the recommendation based on the persona of a particular kind of Driver. Since car is a very personal thing, we have owners looking for more power... more space... or better looks. If you realised the choices of Idris from one to another is very different and it probably shouldn’t be ranked in order.

The UX built quality is sadly not on par and a disappointment to the Lexus brand and it's craftsmanship. My UX250h have creaking door hinges, a rattling driver seat assembly, rattling wing mirror (had to replace the entire assembly), and a brake booster that makes an electromechanical clicking noise whenever the accelerator is depressed, and when the brake pedal is released. Up till today, there is no news from TMAP and they claim that it is normal. 🤣 Even the Toyota Prius C doesn't make such noises. (kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZ_IZZ9vaZaol9E) I will not recommend the UX at all. Gone were the days where Lexus cars were made with superior quality. Thankfully, Borneo is the saving grace. With 157k, I would have gotten the top range Harrier Turbo instead, or an XC40 T4 RD. They offer better value in many other aspects.

@@tand9854 Yes I agree. The XE30 IS is feeling very dated. However, it still maintains Lexus's core values in built quality and craftsmanship. Both the XE30 IS and soon to be cancelled L10 GS, as well as the XF40 LS were the pinnacle of Lexus's engineering. All the new Lexus cars built on Toyota's TNGA's platform aren't impressive and have questionable qualities. The last I was at Borneo, the current 2020 ES250 had rattling chairs too (kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZqS1o4WoiZWKmaM), and the UX200 had creaking door hinges like my UX (kzbin.info/www/bejne/oWmQl5qAetd1g9U). Even my scrapped Mazda 2 did not make such noises prior during its final COE days. Thats why I won't recommend the UX, even though I wrote on sgCarMart review as a recommendation, but I take my words back. The built quality and consistency is definitely not worth $157k. I've compiled all my issues into a video too - (kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZ_IZZ9vaZaol9E).

I'm a bit wary of Volvos though as they are essentially China owned brand. Turbos are also not known for being maintenance free.

natnut2008 It’s not so bad ba. Haha. The turbos are outsourced and developed with BorgWarner, similar to many other manufacturers like Porsche and Merc. Transmission is outsourced to Aisin Warner, also co-owned by BorgWarner and Toyota Corp. The Chinese generally only pump money, and leaves it to Volvo to do what they need to do. I won’t be too concerned about their long term built quality. I’ve been through 6 Volvos and I’ll definitely get one again. 👍 I thought wanna give Lexus a try and the UX was/is shockingly bad for a Lexus product.

You guys are still too young to understand the specific brand of cars in S'pore's market. I have been owning 4 type of brand new cars. Base on my experiences of owning such 8 brand new cars, you guys have such a bad choice. Think about it when come to maintenance (breakdown cost), reliability and trade-in value. Correct me... I am definitely not for TOYOTA or HONDA. Don't fool your viewers... they are smart persons.
