The winning combination is Bb7 followed by Bc7 and the rook is trapped!
@markj42022 жыл бұрын
At 15:45 in video, I believe the winning move is Bb7. This wins the rook. After RA8 to d8 (only safe square for the rook) then Bc7 traps the rook

Another great channel definitely better than Levy’s channel in a lot of ways and his channel is quite good. This guy even studied psychology in the pursuit of chess. I think that says a lot

Great video! It looks like bishop B7 is very strong since B8 is protected. Rook will be trapped after bishop C7.

There are different ways to "lock in" an opening. For example, as White, you can play 1.d4 and against 1...d5, play the Queen's Gambit and against 1...Nf6 the Trompowsky or London. You only need to study two systems, and you can eventually branch out. Similarly, you can start with 1.e4 and against 1...e5 play your favourite line, and against everything else try the King's Indian Attack. Later on, you can study the individual systems against the Sicilian, French, etc if you want, and you always have the KIA to fall back on. It's not as easy with Black (much bigger trade off with "fewer lines" vs "objective strength"). I'm content to say one opening against e4 and one against d4. Sure, there might be lots of lines within these, but if you stick with the same one, you'll eventually get a feeling for it. Maybe it's just me, but I'm willing to work harder as black to play an opening (or reach a position) I like vs playing something offbeat just because it's less work.

Robert Ramirez recommends Pirc. It is about as boring as the London, but it is pretty solid. There are also many ways to transpose into it.
@sjefke72069 ай бұрын
I would say scandinavian defence with QA5/QD6 against E4. Against D4 its more difficult but the Dutch makes it your opening on move 1 though

Igor, do you feel like openings such as Colle/London/trompowsky is a way to lock' your opening ' too? Or is it only things such as B3 Bird Sokolsky etc?

e4 has more theory if you stick to d4 systems (London or Colle). the best advice I can give getting to 1800 elo in classical and rapid chess online. as for playing for black that's kind of tricky because you can't lock in a system for white but there are systems for black (Owens defense) but it is in high elo theory less sound. for me playing at around 16-1800 elo online chess the Owens system works well but against 1900 plus I almost never win. another tip don't always worry about what gms play because they play way more sound so don't play the Lopez or Sicilian as they are very advanced and require a lot more theory. if you ever get tired of the London system, the Botvinik system found in the English is also very good
@nicovanderwilt75022 жыл бұрын
You have to learn them all. That is the way. Every opening. Middle and engdame. I can play pretty much everything. But yeh you always have a favourite. I like to randomly change. It doesn't matter to me.

white or black, i go for a hipoos style opening. I can start with nimshcowitz larsen, owens, modern, etc anything but 1e4, e5. Most hesitate after first move, then i go into hipoo, rat style while looking for weaknesses. Went from 33 percet win to 60 plus! Almost reached a 1000 from 600 since november, lol!

Thanks for the question. When asked this question. Igor said older chess players grow slowly because of other responsibilities in life. So if your younger brother is focused and gets the right training. He can become a GM for sure.

Hi Igor you recommend the scandinavian defense as a good defense to learn and use, but I watched your video 7 best traps of scandinavian, and it appears white overwhelms the scandinavian quite easily. I like your suggestions for playing white , the bishops opening and the Larsen opening, do you still recommend the scandinavian, my friends are strong players is there a stronger more resilient opening for black or should I persevere with the scandinavian
@sjefke72069 ай бұрын
I'm no Igor, but I think any opening thats not a gambit is fine for 99% of people. At my local club there plays a Fide Master who opens with the birds opening. I know a fairly strong player who starts with 1B4 ... and he crushes me everytime. I personally play the scandinavian defence with great succes. I had a better player coming up to me after the game asking if it's my normal opening? Bit he did not get to beat me, he got a draw being frustrated. Hypothetically if you would play Carlsen, would you lose because of the opening or because he is the better player?
